payment not received threats

My wife paid the fee for a parking ticket, and we have proof of delivery from the Post Office. The cheque has not been cashed. However the parking company concerned have sent us a letter saying the fine has not been paid, and issuing threats of clamping etc, which is distressing her.
If the PO say the cheque has been delivered to the correct address, where do we go next? Any suggestions? For example they could say that they have not received it, despite the PO proof of delivery , and ask us to send another cheque, and then cash the first one, so we would lose twice as much. Is this a common scam from registered companies?

Thanks

  • Is it a Private Parking ticket or a Council one? If the former, then everything they do is a scam, and you should cancel the cheque and not pay a penny (and read the sticky threads on this forum explaining why).

Looks like we have another scam victim.

Cancel the cheque with your bank ASAP!

Why did u get drawn in to the scam in the first place? It's a con. Which company was it?

They cannot clamp a vehicle over an alleged unpaid debt. They certainly couldn't come to your home and clamp you. |

As Phil has said, cancel the cheque ASAP.

Steady on there pal, until the op answers whether its a council or PPC ticket don't go saying that. Councils CAN send bailiffs to clamp and seize cars whether they're on street or private property. Sure, PPCs can't (unless they've a court order) but don't just tell the op they can't because for all you know it could be a council PCN and they could take you're advice and end up owing £500+ one morning.

When I was doing council parking our bailiffs were telling me about their tactics once - As early in the morning as possible (while dark) they'll turn up, creep up the drive with the clamp, fit it, put a warning sticker on, take photos (in case you damage / remove the clamp) and then retreat and wait for you to contact them.

The only time council Bailiffs can't clamp the car is if they can't find it or get access to it (or you've clamped all 4 of your wheels yourself :rotfl:) but even then they can seize other property if they can get in (and there was talk about giving them automatic entry rights for council PCN recovery a couple of years back).

@pgeorgy: If it is a council PCN, get in touch offer to make a payment arrangement. If its a PPC (Private Parking Company), you can rip it up and bin it (If its Parking Eye this could be risky - see the other threads).

The OP makes reference to "the parking company" so they clearly mean a private "ticket" not council !

As you know payments/appeals for Council tickets go to the Council even if they use a company to do the work -so if the OP paid "the parking company" then it IS a private (fake) "ticket".

The OP mentioned a "parking company" so, unless the OP has not described them correctly, it is a good chance he/she is dealing with the usual charmless chancers.

Yes but to some folks the council is a company thats why I've posted just in case.
  • Hi All,

I've scanned through several forums and responses, I can't see any thing quite particular to my circumstance... do you mind if I add my dilema for comment...

I parked in Fort dunlop, birmingham where it quite clearly states 90 minutes free parking. I got a parking "charge" in the free duration but they are demanding payment on the basis of failure to display the ticket correctly on the windscreen.... It was private land (private car parking enforcement agency) and I have not received an invoice, everything in me says to just ignore it but I am petrified of them actually taking this further - over £60 is it worth it to get a black mark on my pristine credit rating... but at the same time - how dare they!? It's extortion.

    Any advice or thoughts?

    Thanks, :)

Sorry chicken and I don't mean to be rude but have you actually bothered to read the stickies???

Please read through them and then reply back.

Please no one else reply to chickens question until he/she has actually read and replied!

I don't mean to be rude but its time people actually read things....

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY?

WHY would your wife send a cheque to a known scammer without Googling them first?

And why would you ask whether asking for another payment is a common scam? If you just read the stickies you would have known that them even asking for a pound is a scam? Did you not realise that this is a bogus PCN, a fake ticket, not a FINE at all?

Do you both send your money to Nigerian email scammers as well then wonder why they email you again?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
