Eventually, some have been given provisional start dates, turn up to start work, then being turned away. Some are being given start dates, turn up and get started.

RM and Angard will say that it's working very well, you just have to see the posts on royalmailchat.co.uk to see that it's not.

Enjoy the wee bit of extra money over christmas :T

  • My son started work on the 2nd Dec doing nights at a local mail centre - he worked 10pm till 6 am Fri,Sat,Sun & Mon and expected to be paid today (Fri 9th), he received nada! Spent hours trying to get through to Angard when he finally got through he was told they had 0 hours against his name for last week, but when he told them what hours he had worked they said they would pay him for 21 hours on Monday (but at just £6.50 an hour) considerably less than the e-mail he received from them quoting the wage rates for the position they were offering him! Total c*** up if you ask me! We are going to wait until Mon and see what if anything is paid into his account! Channel 4 are considering doing a dispatches programme on the whole farce if anyone wants to get their problems aired.

My sons gone into work tonight but he's not happy!

  • Your son is not alone there are hundreds of people around the country that have been let down by Royal Mail this year. Pay is a big issue at the moment on the chat forum http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/angard-staffing.html with many even threatening to leave on Monday as many were not paid or paid incorrectly on Friday.
Christmas is RM's busiest time of the year and has always relied on Casual staff to keep the wheels moving. Through their own arrogance, penny pinching and institutional incompetence this has been an epic !!!! up from the start. Whilst blame will be laid at the door of Angard it is worth pointing out once again that Angard are owned by Royal Mail. many have seen this as an attempt to begin a more thorough "Casualisation" of the workforce on the strength of 2011 RM won't have a business soon if its run into the ground anymore and is sold off ! Oh hang on thats part of the plan, silly me!!
  • So if he doesn't get paid the amount shown on the email he was sent, who do we go to? Apart from Angard! Royal Mail? Trading Standards? Any ideas please!

  • So whats actually the problem thats causing so much unhappy feeling? because it doesn't seem that the system hasn't changed much since i applied to be a xmas RM temp years ago..

BAck in the day (10 years ago).. they would interview hundreds and hundreds of people months in advance..

They do this knowing that they will become busy in a staggered fashion in the build up to christmas.

They also know that a lot of the people who apply wont be availible by the time the call comes because they will have found alternative employment.

I received the call for work on the 22nd of december but had already starting working somewhere else.. some of my friends got the call in the few weeks before that but it really just depended how far down the list your name was.

Noone was guaranteed any hours or start dates.

And Angard Staffing outsourced the recruitment process to Reed Specialist Recruitment.

I applied for a job, got accepted, got told to choose a venue to go to for the interview, was none on the list.

Rung and got no response, e-mailed and got told to wait a couple of weeks and one will appear. It never did, nor did I hear from Angard again.
