Mrs_Veg_Plot wrote: »Hi all
Have got to the bottom of the mysterious indentations in one of the veg beds when I saw sparrows having a dust bath in it this afternoon. Mrs VPAha! When I read about your mysterious indentations, I flashed on some info I had a about that reconstructed Iron Age village where a group of people went to live for a year as an experiment. It was on TV in the 1970s.............
Anyway, there was something about the excavated dirt floors of these ancient circular houses which had always baffled archaeologists; the several indentations just inside the doorway. Loads of theories were put forward but none really stacked up.When they put people and animals into their reconstructed village all became apparent; the hens went into the huts, but only as far as the dry earth inside the doorway and made dust baths! I thought of this when you posted about your mysterios dimples but didn't mention it as I was concentrating on the fact there were 2 of them as if someone had been kneeling there.

How sweet, the birdies having dust baths. My cats do that, cover themselves in dust and then bring it in the house and shake themselves clean.....normally just after I've swept up!
I can resonate with the people passing thing, my cousin died last year, she was poorly for months but was adamant she couldn't leave her three young children (under 6) without knowing that her Mum had got custody/responsibilty for them. The Dr advised that she be told the paperwork had come through in order to help ease her anxiety, so they took in a brown envelope, showed her and said it was all sorted, left the room to get her a drink and she slipped away.
Its rained nearly all day here but it's still warm, have spent the afternoon patch working and fantasising about buying a string of investment properties. Well a girls got to dream."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
We were perhaps lucky in that the route was quite spread out so there were parts that weren't too busy and we were able to see everything. Not in any hurry to see it again, but at least we can say we've seen it once!Popperwell wrote: »Possession,
I know that they have to watch security but I thought that the torch barer would be out in front. If you can find spot where you are raised from the ground slightly looking down would be better as people move out into the road and your view then gets blocked.
I wanted to see the torch relay as it is a bit of an historic event but I'm not really bothered about the Olympics themselves so will not be watching. But hope those who are looking forward to them do enjoy them.
Fuddle, I like your meal plan, even as a single person, I think that I could do a lot of them and they would not cost much to buy the ingredients or to cook them.:)
How about cutting and pasting the plan and e-mailing it to yourself?:p0 -

Byatt,
Funny that you should mention that BT scam because...

That's it exactly. I'm usually so careful, I was caught out once a couple of years ago, and an absolute nightmare. Looking at the email again, I can see the things wrong with it, the logo is blurred and the language used is just not correct. But I'm tired, I've recently updated my details on BT, so thought, oh it must be that...:o
I've had Paypal scam emails and ebay scam emails along with various others, but this caught me off guard. Than goodness for antivirus! :T0 -
Not caught up with all posts as had a rather busy - but nice weekend , now in bed exhausted but having withdrawal symptoms from not being on here.......
Popperwell - I have a close friend who is like you, lived with his mum until she had to go into nursing home and then she passed, he is a few months ahead of you and not got his mums savings either and like you will have to live on them until they go down below the limit, which will like yours not take long. Its been so hard for him and I know it is the same for you. Change whether good or bad is never easy to cope with and losing someone who was basically your whole world be it a parent, child or partner is not something someone bounces back from overnight, so don't be hard on yourself.
You look after yourself - love and hugs to you xxxxx
Right back to catch up on what I missed........

Just as I surf around and then think about getting a meal together, I was just thinking having mentioned the cost of buses(and lack of a service)and how expensive taxi's are if you don't have access to your own transport or a friend who is will to ferry you around, is it any wonder many of us feel like "Prisoners" in our homes?
So what we do without a radio, tv, the internet, reading a book, a phone etc...especially if alone.
This was broght home last night when I half heard that a fairly shorttrain ride somewhere like Birmingham to somewhere if not booked weeks in advance but ordered on the day costs something like £500:eek:
Heck you could fly for less than that or have a holiday break abroad...something wrong there. I wonder if I'll ever take a train ride ever again?
I have no family so I won't be caught but if you have family and suddenly there is an emergency where a relative takes ill and they give you a price like that you can only imagine the problems caused."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

We've had the bus to City centre withdrawn from our village. The council used to subsidise it and once the funding was withdrawn, the bus company removed the service. That 6 mile walk I do would cost me £5 return. I just can't do that which is why I am stubborn and walk it.
I have to go to docs tomorrow for more anti-d's and couldn't get appointment at my surgery so have to walk 8 miles to go to the next surgery. It means DD aged 3 cant go to nursery because I won't be back in time to collect her. I'm pushing her on her trike and try to make an adventure of it. I'm buying cake as a treat when we get back.
I know I sold my car because I didn't use it much but now I really realise how much of a hassle life can be when you have to get to places without the use of a car. I'm two different people - by weekday I am in walking shoes pulling a trolley, hood up, soaking and windswept - by weekend I'm in smart clobber getting out of DH's new company car. It's bizarre how people's perceptions of you change. I watch people summing me up and I actually feel sorry for them, making assumptions that are based on a car... if only they knew.
I have finished my leg warmerand got the hang of ribbing stitch but now I realise I don't know how to get the stitches off my needle. A job for tomorrow.

Popperwell, you dont sound miserable, mainly you are just stating the facts of life as we live it. Pottering is an MSE olympic sport
I have a house full of craft stuff (my retirement stash) and hubbys railway modelling stuff plus books, jigsaws and anything else we could find cheap before I finished work as we knew we would have to keep our minds and hands occupied.
I retired just as the recession was starting and I think it was good timing. OH's health was deteriorating rapidly and I was needed here. Going out is so expensive with petrol or buses and goodness trains  its a kings ransom to go on one.
If daughters partner cannot drive us to a hospital appointment ( he is second driver on our motability insurance) and its one where OH is having treatment we have to get a cab, its about 10 minutes away by car and its £7 in a private hire, coming home we have to use a black cab and its £10
Byatt, thank goodness you had spyware! in the last few months I have had e mails in my junk from The United Nations and the FBI saying I had inherited money, luckily I was laughing so much I didnt open them. But it is easy especially if you are nosey like me :rotfl:
Smileyt  yoohoo buddy, was it dogs home day today? Hope you enjoyed it or did they kidnap you cos they knew what an asset you would be. Did you come home with a puppy in your pocket? Oh went to pick the kids up from a friends years ago and he came home with a kitten - 'he has soft touch tattooed on his forehead !Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0
