I know this for a fact. I took my kids out of the epicentre of a family crisis many years ago and stayed in a tent in a field (campsite) for 6-8 weeks. They did not suffer, to them it was an adventure.
Grandma, I have to say that is one of the most helpful, supportive and spot on posts I have ever read. It brought tears to my eyes it's just so honest and right. :A0 -
How is everyone? I'm tired today, not long back from an interview. It cost me £7.50 to park my car! I'll be so glad to get back to work, I just hope something comes up soon, I'm worrying about bills.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. My two would see it as an adventure too grandma and what a great mummy thing to do, to be determined to make it into an adventure when you were probably feeling frantic yourself.
Thanks for the second spin idea everyone. It's a great ideaThe washing machine in the house is 1000 rpm (I think that's the measurement) It's annoying because I have my own washing machine in the garage that is 1800rpm but the landlord doesn't want us to swap it round. Still, I have a fully working washing machine that costs me nothing to repair so musn't grumble.
I have just put the load on to spin and for an extra 8 mins I should have a little dryer clothes. Ta muchly
Great to see you post again gailey
Can I run something past you? I have been charity shop shopping today. I found this lovely black dress, quite understated and very sensible. I bought it. I will never wear it day to day but you know why I bought it? I thought it was a lovely piece to wear for a funeral  Is that a bit weird? I'm only 32 with anxiety surrounding my family's safety so mixed with the desire to be prepared for eventualities makes me doubt the motives for buying it:cool::o I think I may be taking something to the extreme:o I'm prepared for a funeral  Please tell me someone out there has a funeral outfit.
My slow cooker arrived! But I missed delivery for my neice's birthday present.
It's 6 mile walk in the opposite direction to the normal butchers walk and it's going to rain hard tomorrow (do we have a crying smiley?!)
I've been walking the dogster along the long grass and my hands are itching like crazy. I don't feel nettled but i've been irritated but something.
I was telling my friend's MIL about mistaking elderflower for cow parsely and she laughed. She said it brought back memories of her finding some rhubarb, trying her damnedest to get a piece, stewed it and was in the process of adding sugar when her husband walked in, recoiled in horror at the leaves and told her she was about to poison the lot as it was hog weed! Very scary, be careful out there!!
Off to make mince and onion gravy, broccoli, carrots and yorkshire puddings.0 -
FUDDLE - there is nothing a girl needs so much as a little black dress, whatever the reason for owning it, It is a must have!!!!!!!0

Fuddle - just wanted to say re drying - have you have got a south facing window with a curtain rail try putting wet shirts etc on hangers and hang them there to dry - upstairs if possible, and even better if the room is small. That way you are maximising any available natural heat/drying potential. Even on a cold wet day, this is likely to be the warmest place in the house (unless you are lucky enough to have a room with some heat like Lyn). We did this for years even though we had a small tumble dryer. We use an airer now as windows not suitable here, but in a little room upstairs.
Welcome back Gailey!
ETA - no it's not weird! Just sensible.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
I've got a funeral outfit too - mine was charity shop a few years ago. Very handy to have and the skirt can be worn with a dressy top for special occasions.
If its a royal mail parcel, you should be able to phone the number on the back of the card and get them to redeliver, will save you the walk."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

I am over analysing things again. It is a nice but plain dress though, and a bargain.
I should be able to rearrange delivery pooky but that never happens. The number on the back is central centre, who then puts the request through to the branch online... but the branch don't get the request as they don't have the internet. I have the branches number and they will redeliver it, but always at the same time (nursery pick up) so I always miss it. I have asked (and they are supposed to do this I'm told) for them to redirect it to my local post office for me to collect from there but they refuse. So it's either a walk... or wait till Saturday when DH is off work and has the car. Depending on how defiant, stubborn and independant I feel tomorrow, the walk may or not take place. That mixed with CBA because it's hossing it down raindroplets. We shall see.0 -
Does anyone know if honeysuckle winding round the bath and toilet downpipes (on the outside of the house of course!) is dangerous ie will it pull the pipes off the wall? My honeysuckle is going crazy at the moment (and smells gorgeous) but I don't want to be landed with a bill if the pipes collapse!!
Evening, smileyt, don't know if it could pull the pipes off the wall but I do know what will happen if it can find an entry point into the pipework itself and it ain't pretty.
My folks have a brick pitched-roof porch/ extension built on the front of their terraced house. It has a proper gutter and downpipe, separate from the rest of the house. The downpipe was beside a hedge (about 3 feet from it) which included a honeysuckle. One day in a rainstorm, the water topped over the gutter like a waterfall and it was obvious the downpipe was blocked. Dad uncoupled it with my help. It was full, from ground to the foof (8 feet) with snarled-up thin white roots of honeysuckle. They were wadded up as tightly as a pan scourer and we pulled and pushed them out with our hands and a bean cane. The stem part of the honeysuckle didn't even appear to be near the downpipe.
I used to rent part of a 4 story victorian townhouse which had ivy and virginia creeper up the back. The owner was concerned about these getting into the drains out there and took himself off the the offices of the water company. They reassured him about those two creepers but told him that the very worst thing for growing into drains and pipes and blocking them was........you've guessed it.........honeysuckle.
Which is a blinking shame as it smells divine; just saying so that you know to keep an eye on where its roots may be ending up.prepareathome wrote: »Am so pleased for you, and a handy tip about soaking the seeds never done that, and am thinking of maybe putting in a few more peas so will give them a soak for a few days before I plant..........
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI always soak big seeds like peas and beans. I give peas only about 24 hours, broad beans get 48-76 hours and the roots will start to show at that point. The runners had a bit longer as an experiment which seems to be paying off. I won't be defeated by invetebrates, I totally refuse to yield to the Great Slugfest of 2012, as we will recall it to the wide-eyed munchkins of grandchilder who will gather at our arthritic knees at some future point to ask us about the Bad Old Days.
I shall be drinking gin in a bedsit somewhere of course, being as I'm childless-by-choice. Sloe gin, probably.....:rotfl:
Been on the go since 6 am this morning, apart from a brief pitstop after dentist and before w*rk. I used that pitstop to flit in J Lewis and buy the fridge I selected last week. It comes next Tues and Mr Beko departs at the same time for a very reasonable £9. We shall have to whisper this information as I don't want Mr B taking umbrage and conking out ahead of time.
I must be a dream customer to sellers of appliances; I do my research and make my decisions and by the time I get in to buy it, it's a case of pointing and saying "I want one of those, please." The whole transaction took less than 5 mins which is how I like to do my shopping.
OK, having a cuppa and letting my meal settle then off to the lottie for a bit (dirty minds!) of weeding and bagging up the now dry but soon to be saturated grass to get it off site.
Hope everyone is getting themselves stocked up on sunshine as it seems this may be the best it's gonna get for a while.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
