    Morning :D

mardatha I got my soap! Thank you so much, they are gorgeous. I've put one of the mice in the bathroom and the rest in the conversatory to dry out a bit. I'm afraid the lavander stuff is having to go to a good home, but my friend will be very happy :D I can see more orders in the future. Even DS2 is impressed with the sheep.

You poor thing GQ. I hope you feel better very soon.

Wb Evie74. Mine's an Earl Grey with milk and two sugars please.

bonny_bumpkins I agree with everyone with regards to over pricing in charity shops. I also hate the trend for things being arranged by colour. I don't want to have to search through every single rack when I'm looking for a specific thing.

With regards to DD or cash, we have an account that all the DD come out of and that is funded by DH's account. So we know that the money in there is bill money. With my account I take out the cash for that week each week and know that when it is gone that's it for the week. cheapskate I know exactly what you mean about buying 3 things and then wondering where all the money has gone.

Today I've told DH that I want to do something that doesn't involve grocery shopping or watching him lie on the sofa in a semi-coma. So far the options seem to be The Riverside Festival or Art House in which 40 local artists have their work displayed in 9 houses. The only problem with that is falling in love with something and spending money we don't have to bring it home where it belongs. Can you tell we have been guilty of this in the past? *gazes lovingly at the bronze hare and art pottery sitting on the shelf*

I think I need more tea. Where is GQ's nurse hiding these days?

    Take care xxxx

:D Thanks for your kind wishes, ladies, ear infections are indeed the pits. I now have an antibiotic-steroid spray to use thrice daily. Have just given myself the first squirt........ooo-errr missus.

evie welcome aboard. Grim news about your OH's job but if there's anyone is the land who knows how to make one penny do the work of two, chances are she hangs on OS (or her daughter or grand-daughter does).

SDG Nursie has gone to Harrogate (wherever that may be) for a conference. It's the Federation of Tartars and B*llBreakers (English Division)'s annual shindig. I shall muck out the broom cupboard and me and Henri D'Vac will enjoy a peaceful weekend.

I have dark shadows under my eyes (no sleep for earache) and feel like something the cat regurgitated but had to go back out to get the prescription so used the time creatively to do some bargaineering. Savers have soda crystals at 64p a 1kg pack (the Dri Pak ones), haven't seen them that cheap for a couple of years, so I bought 5. An OS-er has to consider her storecupboard, inc non-food stores, at all times, or she'll have her pinny confiscated.

I'm about to mosey on out again to poke my nose into some c.s. and the Magic Greengrocer (he and his missus stand between me and scurvy on a regular basis.) Then I shall stagger back again.

I HAVE to go to the lottie this afternoon to water the beans in the cold frame and drop off my rotables but feel so poorly that it will be just a flying visit. Blasted earache........

Hope everyone has a good day.

Ooh, re the trailer; dump run/ collect manure from somewhere free in the countryside?

I knew it was a mistake leaving reading the thread for a day....

I think having a giant ornament for your username shows us that Colin is going to fit in just great.

So many moving stories, had me giving a few sobs under my breath, thank goodness I am in on my own...

Charity shops. My daughter has a brilliant one near her, run by lovely little old ladies. Everything is a pound or two, they wouldn't know a designer label if it jumped up and bit them. Once or twice my daughter has pointed Monsoon or East items out - for example - and the reaction was 'Enjoy your bargains.. you spend and bring in enough."

As for the rest.. the ones near us are savvy enough not to charge stupid prices for Primark and FF/TU, but the price of the BHS/M&S and above stuff has been creeping up, I've noticed.
With the discovery of the X Catalogue shops selling all I need for mostly under a fiver I've stopped using the charity shops.

The X Catalogue shops are in the North East and Cumbria, and sell mostly JD Williams catalogue goods, though I have some Joe Brown's stuff from there too (lovely!!). The prices are extremely low. They do household goods too but as I always have my shopping trolley with me and that dept is upstairs in one of their stores I don't always investigate that fully.

I've just realised all I am wearing today is from there. A relaxed fit pair of quality jeans for £6.99, a blouse (originally £16) for £1.99 and a lovely waistcoat/sleeveless cardigan (Warehouse, originally £15) for £1.49.
With prices like that, you'll understand why the CS's no longer have my custom as much as in the past. Having said that, I daren't buy any more, my wardrobe is bursting.

Installed new cable and filter for router all by myself yesterday, feeling very chuffed that arthritis hasn't stopped me from doing everything.
Have a good weekend all, may see you later. Postie has just delivered Tesco Home Panels parcel meaning that I can now go out, and it has just started raining...

    Welcome wilf55!

:hello: Hello wilf55 and welcome to the madhouse. Put t'kettle on, lass. You certainly have a tough time at the mo and I hope that things will soon turn the corner for you and yours.

I can barely keep my eyes open and cut short my c.s. foraging trip (i.e. I didn't go to every single one :o) but lucked out at the Magic Greengrocer.

For one fine English poond, I now have 2 huge broccoli crowns, a head of celery, a bag of carrots (broken, about 1 lb weight) and 5 bananas. Love that couple to BITS. :D

I'm about to hie me off to the lottie as I'm determined not to let those cold-framed runner beans die of drought just because I'm poorly. We've been thru too much together this past fortnight, we're not quitting now. My route will also take me past another couple of c.s., small indy ones in the 'burbs. Should I? I think I should, the charities need the money and they might have just the perfekt book for me.

After all, it's all in a good cause.:p:D;)

McCulloch, deeply-envious of your bargaineering. Prices like that knock the chazzas into a cocked hat, don't they? Wish I was in that region............

Hokay, gonna do what I have to do whilst I still have the strength to do it, then come home and sleep awhile. Prob catch up with y'all tonight. GQ x

Welcome back and welcome to our new posters :D I love it when people say hi and join in :)

Thanks GQ for saying about how elderflower could take over the garden. I'm alright about it as I am wanting the gardens to be useful (hopefully a bit pretty too) but ultimately useful. I have had elderflower pointed out to me while in the car with DH (I didn't know he knew that kind of thing!) It's all over the place. I was wanting to jump out and pick some but thought to look at what I can make with it first. Also bought growing mint from Aldi 49p I love mint tea so was wanting the herb to make my own.

Had a bit of a rough morning. You know we were going to the opticians? Well DH and DD went in together and were in ages. Myself and the little one were in the waiting room. All of a sudden the optician shouted in the receptionist, who brought out my daughter in tears. DD couldn't speak and I as left wondering what was happening to my DH. They called me in to ask had he had any medical conditions... I saw my husband slumped in the chair, grey, sweating and 'out of it' with his eyes closed/sometimes rolling. He was soaking wet too. The nice quiet girl went and wife mother mode kicked in. I asked to get the air con on, and took my husbands coat off. Both kids were there crying :( All in all he was wet because he had asked for a drink but dropped it when he fainted. He had seen a photo of the back of his eye with a black spot on it. It looks like he has a scar on there which is causing his long sightedness in his eye. He's been referred to hospital to get it checked out. Optician said he shouldn't try diagnose but it can be quite common for men especially, to develop these between 20-40 years but best get it checked out. I began my shakes when it all died down and had I not been on the medication it would have been a panic attack. £85 for frames which have prisms in or something, DH's eyesight is ordinarily fiine in one eye and not too good in the other which means his eyes are constantly battling it out and working hard - he gets tired easily. After this morning he can use the emergency fund because all of a sudden money doesn't matter. DH is what matters

DD's eyes are still ok, optician thinks she'll be ok for the next 8-10 years. It depends really on how much she study's or uses the computer . They won't make her eyesight worse but may highlight the difficulties sooner than the same eyes who aren't working so hard.

I feel absolutely shattered! Going to rest, do some house work, investigate elderflower recipes and then get walking the dog around the hedgerows for elderflowers :)
