That's put my mind at ease Mar, taHe did say only to use the glasses when he's tired and never more than an hour or so a day so probably so his brain won't get confused. Poor bloke has recently been diagnosed with dyslexia too. He's one confused bloke at the minute.
He nearly fainted when I had blood taken. He nearly fainted when he had to accompany me in the caesarean room. Here's me needle in my back going to be cut to bits and he can't even cope being in the room. Still, however minor it all was this morning, it was a shock and I feel very protective over him at the minute. The silly s*d that he is.0 -
Men faint at the drop of the hat - It was a common occurrence in my midwife days. I was rifling through one juicy placenta in the dirty sluice (checking it was all there) and heard a crash behind me, turned to see the most handsome and muscular giant of a man (electrician) on the floor - he had been changing lightbulbs. Well I had to minister to him - poor man:p I have the strongest stomach known to man and can deal with anything except spiders:eek:I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Fuddle: Hope he's OK now but I bet that was a shock at the time.
Update: Thankyou all so much for advice re; elderly neighbour being 'conned' into buying herbal remedies (some of these could have reacted badly with her prescription meds as well...grrrr!) her daughter has repacked the box and couriered it back. Grandaughter has fired off email to the Company and sent a copy to the Trading Standards Office in the hope this kind of pressurised selling can be stopped and prevent it happening to someone else. Lots of us, I'm sure, know how persistent they can be when they sense an easy sale! She was on the telephone preference servuice anyway, but her daughter's contacted them again...she's also taken charge of her mom's debit card. This was used to buy the stuff, a credit card and you'd have more redress. So...hopefully she can get her money back and her daughter can sleep better at night!
GQ: Hope you ear infection clears up soon, it's like toothache in the ear isn't it? Yuk!
Chazzers:some of them are jumping on the bandwagon with the pricing I think. The charity shops, Poundland and Aldis are the busiest shops around here. There's no way I'm paying £2.50 for a donated paperback. I also don't like the Mary Portas grouping of colours thing. I want a Tshirt or pair of trousers and don't care too much about the colour but I don't want to look all through the racks to find them.
Was out last night at a concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall. Tremendous! Julian L-Webber playing Elgar's Cello Concerto, a rousing 1812 Overture complete with pyrotechnics, and Land of Hope and Glory with much flag waving and joining in. A lovely entertaining night and not as "elitist" as Last Night of the Proms.....nowt sniffy about Brummies!!!
To cap it all, a steak and kidney pie from the chippies on the way home.
So, even though it was like a winter's evening and drizzling, we know how to live!Normal people worry me.0 -
GQ there is a law that says it is illegal to pass a CS and not at least look in the bargain box as you will regret it all afternoon. Also you are poorly so you need a good book to rest with later.
VJ's mum I know have an image of you trundling down the motorway, on the hard shoulder, carrying a table with a child sat on top - wouldnt be as funny without the child!
Bonnie as an ex CS manager I could bore you to death with how to do the job but you need to sind how your shop works first. Do the volunteers get tetchy if you change things, are the management supportive of change. Basically as others have said make sure you price right, then get stuff on the shop floor, ' it wont sell in the stockroom'. hopefully with a keen eye and fresh outlook you may be able to make improvements.
Just been to local shopping centre so i could pop in Wilkies. 3 inches of water behind the car waiting for me to get the wheelchair out of the boot  CS's very boring and wheelchair access terrible. Because of the rain everyone was in a bad mood so decided to just run idiots over if they got in my way, why dont they realise the person sitting in the chair is getting much wetter than them! Still I got everything I went for including 3 kg of pork loin for £10 and its HUGE! Going to divide it into 3 and do one pice as the pulled pork with spices that was on here the other day(cant remeber who posted it but thank you
Welcome newbies you will find some very clever and compassionate people on here to help you through the day.Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
Guess what was along the hedgerows where I walk the dog? Yip, elderflower. All this time, I had no clue. Will those flowers turn into berries? I picked a little bit to make elderflower cordial.
Off to make broth (as we didn't have it the other day because the dog swiped my gammon) using bacon though. Would love to try it with lamb but don't know what cut to use, only know of lamb chops. Also going to make a summer fruit pud but in microwave as using stock pot for broth. I need to get slow cooker replaced as a matter of urgency. That's one piece of equipment I do need.0 -
Fuddle - hope you are planning a quiet afternoon often it is more a shock for the person with the fainter than for the person fainting as it were.
I have pulled pork in SC and it smells delicious, cant wait to taste it later.
Have had a good sort out this morning and the house is looking better unfortunately my mood hasnt improved so I am snapping at everyone. OH woke me this morning screaming at me that I had had kids bring bin in yesterday morning - thats because I was going out in the car and they werent due to collect until today. Apparently he then forgot to put it back out and that was my fault. As a result I am grumpy.0 -
Yes they will FUDDLE, isn't nature clever. If you are wanting to make elderflower cordial you will need 20 flower heads, 2 lemons, 1 kilo of sugar and 1 litre of boiling water. Put the flowers and the lemon zest (the very outside of the rind, the yellow bit) into a large bowl or jug. Boil the water and pour this over the flowers and zest. Leave it for 24 hours, best to cover it to keep out any flies. Strain the liquid through cloth and put it in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, add the sugar and simmer it, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Simmer for 5 minutes and you have elderflower cordial! Bottle it in sterile bottles (put them through the dishwasher or use Boiled(but not boiling) water and give them a good rinse. Use within a month or it might ferment. Best kept in the fridge and diluted to your taste. If you make lots, and want to keep it longer than a month you can freeze it in poly bottles (remember to leave an expansion space at the top and not fill them too full) and it will keep for at least a year. Once you have taken it out of the freezer, keep it in the fridge and use it within the month! Simples Yes? Cheers Lyn x.0

Thanks for the recipe Lyn! Dad used to make elderflower fizz (an alcoholic fizzy drink) but some people think it smells of cat wee! As kids we used to collect elderberries to make jam and my parents made wine of it too.
Fuddle, hope you and OH are over the shock now. If you want to plant elder, I second GQ's and others' cautions, it grows very fast and large, is invasive and difficult to get rid of. Starlings also will also try to beat you to the berries, and if they succeed they will leave purple poo all over the place, just to add insult to injury!!
GQ I hope your ear infection is short-lived. I have a touch of vertigo today, hope it doesn't develp into a full blown attack as I will have to hie me off to the drs looking like a drunk bumping into walls etc.!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Thank you so much for this. So pleased you told me to dilute as I was going to drink it neat. Der, it is called cordial I suppose :rotfl:
Yes, I'm going to chill out very soon. My 'Heart Matters' mag from BHF has dropped through the door so will have a cuppa and a read.0
