I'm doing a bit of my crochet rag rug project at the moment

You lucky thing :) I've been wanting to try something like a rag rug for a good while now. What materials are you using jpscloud?

Even if I had the technological know how I wouldn't dare post a pic of my understairs cupboard - I'd be too embarrassed! - One of these days I'll give it a good sort, but today is not the day.

I've also got a rag rug on the go -I'm using hessian cheap off ebay for the backing and as I'm dead posh (and my mum had 2 bags of scraps I could liberate!) I'm using harris tweed for the rags! Only got about 4/5 inches done so far but it's going to be so lush! (When I get round to finishing it - I have so many UFOs - unfinished objects!)

Well today is going to consist of playing with the kids and inbetween times trying to stuff in a bit of OU, either revision for exam in 10 days or make a start on the essay due the following week so I can focus on the revision at the end of the week, can't decide which is best.I also need to make Indian starters as we are having curry night tonight - I made MG's friend's curry in a hurry base last night and it smelt so good I was actually tempted to spread it on toast for supper!

I also need to have a sort through DD's file either today or tomorrow and organise all the relevant stuff as I have speech and language coming on Wednesday to do an assessment and to discuss her communication needs with a view to organising some communication tools/technology to assist her in making herself understood. I get most stuff and others are starting to hear a little more however her speech is incredibly unclear due to mouth development issues and she lacks the confidence to try and talk to people as she's now so used to no-one understanding. The more tired or stressy she gets, the worse it is so even I struggle by bedtime! I don't have high hopes of the assessment producing a true picture as she tends to get stressy when the focus is on and either shuts up completely or nothing coherent comes out.

    Have a good day all.

I'm using old sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers (and some old clothes that are no longer wearable), torn into strips - I join the strips using the method I saw in this tutorial for using up t-shirts as yarn: http://www.craftstylish.com/item/39345/how-to-crochet-a-rug-out-of-t-shirts

I started a t-shirt yarn bathmat but have to wait for more t-shirt donations to finish it, as the yarn seems to get used up very quickly!

I had quite a lot of old bedding that is 50/50 polyester and cotton, and some of it is a little bobbly, so not nice to use as bedding or for patchwork. It's absolutely fine for a rag rug though! Crocheting makes a thick and springy rug but you can knit or braid the rags as well.

I'm not doing the circular or oval method, by the way... just a straightforward rectangle. I plan to make enough to cover the bare floorboards in my boxroom and the areas not covered by my Ikea giant rag rugs in the bedrooms.

I'll need to scrounge up some donations from friends and family, though... or find some very cheap bargains in CSs - it takes quite a lot of fabric to make a large rag rug.

What size crochet hook do you use jpscloud? The largest I have is a 9. Are you just crocheting single crochet throughout? Im inspired but yes, too many projects on the go.

I have done far too much this morning. I have sewn a dogs bed too would you believe. Supposed to be a cushion but was scared of ruining the fabric. Just learning you see. Think I'm about to crash and burn!

I'm done for today. Jiggered. Oh and Mar, not one pider I'm actually on edge because I didn't see any... that means where are they!?

I'm using a 10 but a 9 will do fine - the strips are torn just about 1/2 inch thick, but I vary it a bit according to how strong the fabric is. I am just using single crochet - I'll try to take a photo in a bit to show what it looks like.

Don't worry about having lots of projects on the go - I do too. I expect some of them will never be finished

One thing I do different these days is store each project in its own laundry bag (99p from poundstretcher) along with all the fabric and patterns etc. that go with it. These are easy to stack in storage/loft and don't look too bad when you have one or two out to work on the projects.

I do have a mountain of unsorted fabric on my treadmill :o - these are recent additions to my fabric stash from charity shops and family donations.

Edit: now is the right time to have a really lazy bank holiday Monday, fuddle... enjoy, you've earned it!

Rug ladies, do your hands ache when you are crochetting your rugs, mine do but Im guessing its my arthiritis. I cut up a kingsize quilt cover from the cs which looks as if it may do a big enough bath mat. Have made little storage pots from DGS's baby vests and they look good.

OH is painting signs in the back garden whilst I knit so its very peaceful here. Though it has taken me 3 hours to watch 'Vera' from last night cos he keeps popping in and asking stuff.
