Well one thing good comes out of having a bad mother - they teach us how to be good ones xx
Oh I agree with that line Mardatha, boy do I! :T
And that youtube explanation was very funny but actually helped me understand the whole damn mess and why no one has a bludy clue what is going to happen or how to fix it. It all makes sense to me now.
I just read both snippets of news, a very exciting time for ML!0 -
Mardatha I agree with you about bad mothers. I don't think my mother was a bad mother really it was just that I was a constant reminder she was saddled with a man who she would not have if she had had a choice. The frustration and trapped feeling must have been terrible. I never really felt loved the way my siblings were.
My father on the other hand was a bad father and husband. I deliberately married someone who was the opposite personality type. Dh is bomb proof and is normally so laid back he could fall over but lately age has caught up and he is sometimes a grumpy old man.
I think after 39 years tomorrow I will be keeping him;)0 -
Really really have to post this - its so funny, please watch it! The euro crisis in a nutshell... I wish to god somebody could make the cabinet watch this and see their red faces.

I am a very deep shade of green from the pics of Memorygirl's store cupboard. That's what I want but mine would fit int he bottom two shelves of that one..
Wanna see the other one - the one with all the sweeties in Mar?
My Matrix ladies have been twisting my arm to write more about how I stock the Armageddon Cupboard so I shall take this as notice to do so and pronto :rotfl:
Stock taking time is coming I suppose - sigh!!
And about Mums - well my Dad says that I learned to cook in "self defence" which just about sums it up really LOL

Girls, why is it that you stock up food? I try to get a bit more in in the winter months but I've been increasingly concerned that life does throw lemons and just because things run smoothly normally doesn't mean to say that there will always be food to eat!
If the Coop doesn't have it, then I won't have it and I guess there's a million things that can hiccup a delivery. Scaring myself. Off to go look at more pics of store cupboards.0 -
I'm a prepper - I think you should be prepared for anything that might happen, and also I live remote and haven't got shops around the corner. But wherever you live, there could be strikes or shortages or powercuts or you can wake up with flu or have a sick child. So it's just handy to have a wee store cupboard.0

A wee store cupboard Mar? I have a grand vision of a huge store cupboard!
No it'll have to be wee as I will have no where for the Christmas tree, hoover, study materials and junk!
I'm excited though0 -
Mind and choose carefully, get stuff that will keep!0

Mardy:- Just loved that!
Fuddle:- I have always had a big stock of food standby's. Mostly tins. I got the habit from my Mam who stocked up when she could in case Dad was ever on strike.(worked in the shipyards so not that unusual in the 70's)
I now try to stock dried stuff and stuff in the freezer. If the world does got 't*ts up ' the electricity companies will not be able to pay their staff and we will all end up having power only three days a week or less! Then my freezers will be bu88erd! My biggest worry in that case will be water supplies! If I can't get it from a tap I know at least two fresh springs but there will be a huge queue for them. Rain water will become essential.:p
Ordinary households will not be as important as hospitals, industry etc, In case you think this is extreme just read about the Greek Pharmacies that Mardywotsit has been talking about.
It's important to adapt your way of thinking. Less of 'It won't happen' and more of 'Am I organised just in case!' In Germany between the wars, famously, you needed a suitcase of deutschmarks/Papiermarks to buy a loaf of bread. This is because their economy collapsed. There was huge unemployment and the government tried to solve the problem by printing more money. (Sounds familiar?) If you can't buy a loaf of bread then you won't be able to pay your water bill. There are millions of people NOW in the USA who have no water to their houses because they can not pay their bills. They use neighbours hose pipes or public facilities! Many are the disabled struggling to pay for their medical care!
Climbs off soapbox...Breathing more slowly....Green mist clearing!....Rant over!
Sorry about that....:wall: I will behave!
As my Mam used to say 'Stop crying or I will give you something to cry for!'??? Awful saying but I did know what it meant!! :rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
God- I think we had the same mum. Yes I think being prepared is sensible. I cant rely on my freezer because we get frequent powercuts.0
