That's great! funny and very sad all at the same time.

Re. store cupboards, and I can beat that one in quantity but sadly not in tidiness! This is not a good thing. When I come back from hols work won't be so manic so I'll spend a bit of time tidying it up.

I always felt that my mom resented me, she seemed to be a lot harder on me in more ways than my brother. The constant criticism was hard to handle bit the worse part was being labelled "stroppy", "difficult" etc. I can vividly remember being about 6 years old and we were due to go out. I'd had a growth spurt and nothing fitted me. I tried on several pairs of trousers but they were short and I couldn't do the button up. When I went downstairs to show her, I was told I was being difficult and awkward, of course my clothes fitted me! I asked her to find me something to wear but of course nothing would so I was deposited with a relative while they went out. No-one defended me, I was labelled the problem child of the family, although I kept my head down, didn't get into any trouble and achieved at school.

My parents weren't short of money but were careful. My mom was all about appearances and making people think we were the perfect family. I found out much later that she'd had a miscarriage after having my older brother, in some ways I guess she must have wished that that baby had lived instead of me. She didn't seem to like girls as much as boys, so I must have been a real disappointment to her.

ETA: She liked playing the housewife but wasn't really great at it. I'm teaching myself to sew and knit, cooking I've picked up along the way and jam making is next on the agenda.

I think all women measure themselves by their mothers - they either want to be like them or they are determined not to be. My lowest moments were when I heard my mother's voice shrieking - and realising it was coming out of my own mouth.

But on a lighter note - I tell my girls they will one day find themselves saying " were you born in a barn?" or "this is not a hotel" -and then they will realise and say to themselves....omg I've turned into my mother!!!!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
