Hello all. I've finally managed to get on the computer, which is normally hogged by ds, after a madly busy week at work which involved visits to exciting places like Derby and Leeds ;), and an almost as busy weekend. Unfortunately I've not managed to catch up on everything or do more than skim the most recent few pages:(.

Byatt and Mardatha - sorry you're feeling poorly. Hope you are on the mend soon.

PP - well done on getting the car situation sorted out. Re your OH's wheat allergy / intolerance, my eldest dd has a similar problem and she finds that food shopping costs her a fortune. She agrees that some of the gf stuff is rank but says that the Warburton's gf loaf is okay and actually tastes a bit like real bread.

I have some exciting news :j I actually booked my tickets to Australia & New Zealand. I go out on the 8th September and will be there for 40 days (sounds almost biblical). I am excited and terrified in equal measure. As soon as I get the chance I'm going to sit down and read through this thread for all the advice on travelling alone.

Anyway, time for bed now. Another early start tomorrow and a trip down to Manchester. The joys :)

    :) Morning all.

Byatt, came onto the thread after your news and after you'd seen the GP so sending you (((((hugs))))) and hoping that whatever it is, isn't too serious and that you soon feel better.

Bogwobbit, I am officially green with envy over your trip to Oz and NZ, you'll have a fantastic time.

Smileyt I know exactly what you mean about the dogs, except for me it would be cats. My family get their mogs from a particular santuary and I love/ loathe going there. Love it, because I know we can rehome one (except last time it was two :o) and the volunteers are so wonderful, and loathe it because we can't take them all. Animals which have been pets are so utterly lost when their people aren't there to take care of them anymore.

A pal who used to be an animal nurse for PDSA told me that (and this would've been about 35 years ago) they had a dog brought in by a distraught guy. He'd been walking on the tow path and had seen some !!!!!! (may he rot in the nether reaches of hell) throw this poor animal, legs tied together so it couldn't swim, from a bridge into the canal.

The hero plunged into the water and saved the dog, brought him to the PDSA, very upset, but couldn't have a dog........he kept ringing every day to check the animal was recovering and the vet nurses were betting that he'd adopt it.......and he did. :) Sometimes I think animals just choose you.

I have a tiny kitchen and was pootling around at the stove one evening when I jumped out of my skin as a cat I'd never seen before decided to leap through my window, which was open a mere smidge. Frigtened the living daylights out of me. And it's not the only time; I'm sure cats can detect a soft touch at a thousand paces. Or maybe I have a certain vibe - the chuggers are always after me.:rotfl:

Spent 10 hours in bed after going to the lottie after work; the peas are officially transplanted. Some of them in the rain which included the odd bit of hail. It's perishing for this time of year and I got soaked to the skin so came home and put myself into a hot bath to stave off any chills. Will try to get up there again tonight to do just a wee bit as the weather for the weekend isn't looking any too promising.

Anyway, time for another pint of tea before I have to go to the salt mine for a few hours. Have a good day, everyone. GQ x

I laughed at this. On one memorable occasion DH and I were woken at about 2am as something landed on our bed. (We didn't have any pets at the time and lived in the middle of nowhere) NDN black cat had climbed onto conservatory roof and jumped up in at our 2 floor bedroom window. The screech from me must have been quite impressive.:rotfl::rotfl:

 OMG, I would have entered orbit if that had happened to me. I'm on the groundfloor but the cat was invisible as it'd jumped four feet straight up from the pavement and tried to hurl itself through the window. It was only open about 3 inches so it fell back, but it still almost resulted in a Tena-Lady moment.

My Nan was once startled by the family cat (a huge all-black mog) which had been shut outside by accident. During the night, he somehow leapt from an outhouse roof to their bedroom window, caught the little open bit at the top with his claws but couldn't get a purchase so hung there, spreadeagled against the glass, screeching like a demon. Poor Nan and Grandad..............! It was about 50 years ago but she's never forgotten it.

Having made it through a week where we got wftc money on Tuesday and we're out by Thursday :( I am happy to be back at Tuesday again. Found an excellent ASDA receipt in the carpark and turned it in to £4.20 on the price guarantee website so we did eat....and the wonderful Milk&More have delivered bread and cheese and biscuts (clearly another essential) but I don't have to pay for them until pay day on 20th.

My husband would really like to meet the guy who threw the tied dog off the bridge, he says he has something extra-special for him. I don't want to know what it is, but I'd turn a blind ear to any sounds coming from that locked room.

Hope you are all feeling better/feeling well/the gods you believe in are smiling on you. I'll happily keep my black dogs since they're Labradors.

    Hi all :)

Well we have not been living too frugally lately. DH got another new job with a company car and I have been whizzing around in our car thinking I am Lady Muck with my new found freedom.

A few months down the line, a discussion about finances and futures with DH and we have decided that actually we must rebuild and be sensible. Therefore, we're selling my car. I don't need it, I just want it and that is just a complete waste of money. I lived without a car to use for nearly 3 years before the new job I can do it again.

It's figuring out how to shop now without spending silly amounts at the Local Coop. I need to look into my shopping habits and maybe shop fortnightly for home delivery - to save on the delivery costs and buy in bulk when I can.

Anyway, It feels good to be back!

    Morning all,
Penny - what a good haul our Mr T never has any good bargains.
Kidcat - hope your OH's pay gets sorted or we'll have to organise another pinnies and rolling pins parade! Good that your head is being supportive, so what if it's hard work for the teacher, keep ignoring the faces and smiling sweetly!

Took the kids to the eye clinic on Friday and DS's eyes are showing the same signs as DD's so looks like he probably has Joubert's as well :(. Not too bad about it actually as DD is doing so well despite being hypermobile as well and at least DS hasn't got that too.

Got some good news this morning for a change! Still in shock but the OU essay that I had to have a 3 day extension on because we'd just got DD's diagnosis and other stuff and I was a bit of a wreck really, I just got back and I got 85 on!!!! :j Had to look at the mark half a dozen times before it sunk in - maybe I ought to write more of my essays under stress with my mind half on something else? Admittedly it was a subject I had enjoyed which also slightly related to stuff I had done at A level 3 million years ago but even so. Feel a celebratory glass of wine coming my way this evening!

Right must go and get the kids ready as DD has hydro at 1 and need to be there early incase I need to wait for a blue badge space. It's a hospital !!!!!! you would think that they should provide more than a dozen disabled spaces!!!!

    Hello everyone

I usually lurk and post once in a blue moon but I saw this article about financial assistance for parents of children with special educational needs and thought it may be of interest to some of you:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-18061348

While I'm here I think I'll show off a bit :p 117 items from T*sco delivered yesterday for £58.76 :money: Good old value range!

    Get well soon poorly people
