Oh. My. God. I've just eaten lunch. A very small piece of rare breed fillet steak I was given yesterday. It was incredible....
I may have a booking for the B&B Friday night so just did ironing (shudder) and made up the bed in anticipation. Just need a quick whip around to clean now.
Seriously CBA today. It's another grey day as far as the eye can see, I've turned the Rayburn up and I'm wearing a jumper...I could quite happily go back to bed!!!

Good news Meme!
We have eaten at the Seafood Restaurant and it as very nice but I would say it is relatively quite expensive. In our former life (by that I mean when we had an income) we used to go to lots of the more expensive restaurants, it was our 'hobby'. We have eaten some lovely food, some of it eye-wateringly expensive, but I have to say that there were only a few where the food and service justified the cost.
We generally went to the set lunch menu at these places, these are usually remarkably good value and a good way to get the experience without a second mortgage (we had lunch several time at Le Gavroche which I think was the best for both food and service but the a la carte menu was off the scale).
Kate - fillet steak is OH's favourite cut. We will be getting some from a fab butcher in Launceston as a treat for his birthday. What breed was it, do you know?Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Mrs C, it's pretty expensive here in Dev*n so I guess his prices didn't seem so bad, but in the scheme of things, yes, expensive. I don't understand why *good* food has to be so expensive here in the UK. My DD and I hope to visit in a lunchtime, when the day comes we don't have our pooch. As it is we ate fish and chips outside a cafe, which were really nice, except for the swooping seagulls!
edit, Hugh F-W River Cottage is just down the road from me.0 -

Yeah hang on I'll fish the wrapper out of the bin!!! Longhorn... it was from the Carn Edward herd.http://www.carnedward.co.uk/
Nom Nom...
I'm not a good person to eat out with, It's been years since I ate anywhere top notch, but my early experiences have made me very picky, and being 'one who cooks' myself, and I know this sounds arrogant, but I rarely eat anything better than I could do for myself. I prefer these days simple food well cooked, and that is pretty hard to come by IMHO. Don't get me started on fruit in green salads

Misses Chip and Owl, I think you should offer an online cookery course to folk like me who are hopeless
What I really really want is a gorgeous flaky pastry-covered, steak & kidney-filled pie...with mashed turnip and pots..
And what are we having?? Bacon & egg
:rotfl:0 -
:rotfl: Mar - nothing wrong with bacon and eggs, a fine meal on a cold day. The farm shop near where we will be staying does a fab S&K, Mr C already got dibs on one. But I do make a mean S&K
Soap arrived this morning, thanks! Little Purple is cute, not unwrapped the Ratties, will give them to OH as they came so will be a nice surprise for us both!
Kate - that's pretty much my benchmark - could I have made this myself better? And yes, I am perfectly happy with nice ingredients cooked simply but well too. But it does seem hard to find places that can do that for some reason. We went to the Ferry Inn a couple of weeks ago, and I was quite disappointed, a lovely place (what a great location) but the food just did not cut it.
And I am with you on the fruit thing 100% - particularly strawberries
Iv'e never had Longhorn that I know of, they are certainly lovely to look at - and just up the Gwaun from us, we have been to Penlan Uchaf Gardens, must go up for a lookie at them.,Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Oooh, Thanks Mardy - I've been a MSE'r this morning. 3 lots of Spag Bol & 5 lots of Mushroom Soup ready to go into the freezer. DH has ironed the 3 KS quilts in the basket :A & I was just wondering what to get for tea that will be quick & simple so B & E & Baked beans it is :TSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Hi Byatt - we used to go to Cornwall on the A303 so would have passed you! We will be going M4/M5 from now on. We have been to Exmouth and Sidmouth/Seaton but don't know the area that well, and not food-wise at all! Also know the Dorset coast, it is all very lovely, what a great place to live!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0
