GQ, it sounds a wonderful experience, did you go on your own?
My dream is Italy. One. Day.
On the subject of rain...what do you do when your washing is on the line and it rains. Do you:
a) bring it in
b) leave it out until it's dry
c)leave it out but then wash it again.
I always have this inner struggle...is the washing cleaner or dirtier...should I rinse through or just leave...
If you are in a town I would probably wash it again because you get dirt in the air washing onto the clothes. Even so I usually leave it out so I don't have to hang it up inside to stop it getting mustyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Gq my Aussie friend likes uk smarties and polos. A friend who moved to Hong Kong asked her dad to bring polos when he visited because she could not get them. In Aus they have something called life savers but they are not even close to polos.
I wonder if some of the internet problems are actually because of Microsoft updates. They do seem to get fixed eventually.0 -
Thanks for all the "lagging the pipe" ideas. I will definitely employ some of those in the winter.I wanna be in the room where it happens0

Up early again. Sleep pattern is up the spout! DH will get up huffing at me because of it. I know it's because he is concerned about my health, but it makes me feel defensive! It's not as though I can do anything about it.
Years ago I was put on a small dose of Amitriptyline to help me sleep. I only ever used it when things got really bad because I felt like a Zombie the next day. Now I can not take it because it clashes with my Blood Pressure tablets. If any of you have Fibromyalgia you will know the merry-go-round of pain/less sleep/more pain/no sleep I am talking about. Any ideas on getting better sleep would be very welcome. It does not need to be very long just deep and proper sleep. I can feel my arms and hands getting too heavy to move, a sure sign of trouble ahead.
I know I should be seeing the Doctor again to get something from him that is compatible with my other meds. But I am my own worst enemy, if I can just bumble along then that's what I do. I don't like having to explain my illness to more people. Our practice in now full of new Doctors who do not know me or my past problems.
Ok! having just read this back, I can see that:-
a) this is a bit of a whinge, sorry about that!
b)I really do need to get off my backside and see the doc. It's stupid for 'new doc' phobia to stop me feeling [STRIKE]well[/STRIKE]better.
It's also occurred to me although I am talking to all of you, I am also talking to myself as well! 'Men with white coats' might be out of a job because of the internet. Talking to yourself has been raised to a virtual level and is therefore not a 'doolally' sign any more! :rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

On the subject of a light shower, I mentally-restyle it as a "freshwater rinse" and leave it. A showery day will often allow it to dry anyway. I did used to lodge with a lady who'd leave laundry on the line in the city for 3-4 days solid at times, inc getting it caught up in overgrown shrubs, and that was visibly dirtier by the day. I guess it's a fine dance between the dirtiness of the air, the sogginess of the clothes and the alterative indoor drying facilities. I don't have a line outside as I'm a flat-dweller but I have toyed with the idea of having one on the allotment.............:rotfl:
I did go to NZ on my own. I'm single and although I did have mates who said they'd like to go, when it came down to saving long-term and hoarding all your annual leave to use in our wintertime, they weren't prepared to make the sacrifices, and I wasn't prepared to forgo my dream.
Lots of people, inc women, are travelling alone and in the hostels you can make plenty of friends-for-the-day and pal around. There are also lots of excursions, like the horse-riding thingy, for which you join a group.
I met up with a bunch of women in the first few days in one hostel. We went our separate ways, to different destinations as some were flying, some were in hire cars, some were on service buses (like me) and some were on special backpacker buses. We'd keep bumping into each other, in different combinations, all over both North and South island for the next month. It was a scream; you'd bump into someone, put the kettle on, and catch up with where each of you last saw X, Y and Z person.I know what you mean about Italy. I went to Tuscany once. It was beautiful. It rained torrentially (in June). I've joked about this before, but it invariably rains on my holiday. Except in Sloevnia, where my visit co-incided with the end of a protracted rainy spell. Must try going there again and see if it was a fluke. Those ancient Italian towns and cities.......ooooohhhhh I get itchy feet just thinking about Italy. I hope you get to fulfill your dream.

Talking to yourself has been raised to a virtual level and is therefore not a 'doolally' sign any more! :rotfl:If you're going doolally you have tens of millions of companions! There won't be enough little men in white coats to go around.
Interesting to hear about people's problems with the site. When I was on dial-up, it took an age to switch pages within the thread, or even to get from the main site to the forum. Then I went to broadband and it was whizzy but it's recently slowed again; wonder if it's something to do with the site. I'm using IE 8.
Well, I hastily made pastry last night, with Kerrygold Buttery spread (it's OK for baking according to the pack) and ADSA Smartprice SR flour and it's come out wonderfully. I make pastry from scratch one in a blue moon (had to call Mum for the ratio of fat to flour) and was in a tearing hurry so was surprised. I used chilled water from a jug in the fridge to bind it and wonder if that helped? I know Mum chills her pastry for 30 mins before rolling it out but this is faster. Might suggest she gives it a go.Or maybe I haven't mysteriously developed a dab hand for pastry - it's just a fluke. When I was in the woods with the Mad Bushcrafters last year, we had to dress a pigeon and make our own pigeon pies in camping tins and cook them on an open fire. I recall thinking; "I don't even make pastry from scratch AT HOME and here I am halfway up a hill in the woods making it!"
OK, more tea is required. I will have to get the [STRIKE]steed to the farrier early today[/STRIKE] bike to the repair shop, I meant! Phew! Little men in white coats were hovering outside.
Have a good day, everyone, GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Meme - try Epsom salt baths at night. Also magnesium supplements (they make some people more alert and some sleepy so work out which and then you'll know whether to take them am or pm
and apparently myofascial massage also helps if you can find someone local who uses the technique. They may not specifically advertise it but people who do sports/therapeutic massage may have trained in it.

Morning All
I've not been on the forums much for the last few weeks as I've found them sooooo slow - like being back on dial up! Mostly this site as others seem to load ok - hopefully today will be less frustrating than before.
I've been summoned to JobClub today  - not sure what to expect really, just hoping they have an accessible PC for me to use or its going to be a bit .
Yesterday I went through 6 wet/dry cycles as I did the school run, volunteering, jobcentre, delivering various children to various events - I'm so fed up with getting wetbut today looks as though it will be the same here. Luckily I have more than 1 pair of proper walking trousers which dry out very quickly while I'm still wearing them, & decent walking boots but its very grey & depressing. Then I'm sure I heard that all this rain isn't going to make any difference to the reservoirs & there will still be a drought  How can it be the wrong type of rain?
Kidcat - I did read a while ago that you were still having a rubbish time. Oh hun, I do hope that it is getting better for you. Hoping that when I catch up with this thread there will be some good news. Have a dodgy :grouphug: & an extra :coffee:And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0 -

It invariably rains on the last day of our holidays - no matter where we go or what time of year. I don't know how we do it. We went to Fuerteventura once, where we read that it rains only on 7 days a year and, yep, it rained on our last day :rotfl:
I went to Italy on my honeymoon - it rained. And, yes, it did matter
Love that you travelled to NZ alone. You remind me very much of a former colleague and still friend. Although she had a son she was left as a single mother when her husband walked out when the child was a week old. She never lets anything faze her. She has had her health issues and is now single with a grown up son. She will travel anywhere and do anything alone and embraces it. If I ever find myself single in the future, for whatever reason (obviously I hope not) then I hope to be able to not worry about doing things and travelling alone. I think I would rather do that than sit at home wishing. Which reminds me, who was it who was going travelling in the far east alone? She should be back soon?
It's hissing it down here. I have a cover on my rotary washing line but I think it's too wet to even go and hang stuff under it! I am working at home today (ahem!). I have a heap of marking to do. However I am going to split my time with cleaning the kitchen and marking - if the marking isn't done today it will have to be done in my own time and the kitchen is more urgent.
I guess i'd better get on with it - or shall I have another coffee?:rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
hi!
Been a while since i last posted on here. Time soon flies can't believe its going to be may soon and i still haven't stared the tomatoes or chillies. Saying that its been to cold do it, what with hailstones, snow, ice and torrential rain.
Kidcat - did you get anything sorted with your sons autism diagnosis? Were going through the same kind of thing with my 8 yr old son. My OH is getting quite upset about it all, as he says "leave him alone, he's just like me". Yes i know that which is why i need some outside support like a group for children while i sit and have a coffee with parents who are going through the same thing.
Schools are very difficult to deal with, especially when involving other agencies or needing finds for equipment.
Everyone keeps telling us to claim DLA but my partner keeps saying no he doesn't need it. Which to be honest i kind of feel the same way but financially it would be better for us.
Hope something happens soon xx
The business seems to be going well, we've had a few quiet spots but its kind of back on track now, which is good.
Well i better actually do some work, been putitng it off for ages. got a severe case of cold and hayfever. Oo i'm so attracting with my red eyes and skin peeling of my lips :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
hi kezlou - we have another meeting this week, it seems (reading between lines) that a diagnosis depends on both an ADOS test result, an ed psych report, speech and language involvement and the CAMHS advisers. If any of the reports do not agree then no diagnosis can be given. It looks at though all our reports tally up with the ADOS, but the ed psych is being stubborn - ironically the ADOS was done by two others psychologists who say its clear as day, we have had a psychiatrist say the same and a paediactric consultant too, but the ed psych has to sign off. Thankfully they are so convinced she is wrong they are compiling a report to document why she is wrong and will be spending time in school observing him.
For us that will just take so much time it may well make the whole thing an exercise in futility, I already know of one parent who is in yr10 who has been told by school that they will do nothing and that by the time she gets anywhere he will be late, they actually told her that they will simply stall - its only another year and he is not our problem!
Its pouring with rain here today which puts paid to my plans of getting DD involved in some planting later - she has to grow a pound for fundraising at school - they gave her a pound and she has to turn it into profit! At six I dont want to encourage knocking on doors or anything which some parents have done so have decided to let her grow some sunflower seeds, once they are sprouting will ask at school if she can set up a little table after school to sell them.
Its all very well doing these things but the time it takes is time I could be spending doing reading or homework, or even just taking them to the park. As it is I will need to get someone tasked to watch DS while DD and I plant so its all a faff. I did consider just giving them £5 (which a few other parents have done) but she was upset at not doing it the proper way.
Having sat through a PTA fundraising meeting last night its clear that they are totally out of touch with the idea of recession etc, some of the ideas for promoting stuff were ludicrous and would make kids that couldnt afford feel utterly awful.0
