  • PAH: That's awful and has made me so angry on your behalf
Bl00dy bean counters have no compassion and no understanding how real people have to live their lives, at the end of the day everything comes down to saving money - but it never starts at the top does it? No! It starts with the most vulnerable, it's easier that way.
    Lots of ((((hugs)))) to you.
    Normal people worry me.
  • PAH- I just scared the dog shouting at the screen over your post. How anyone can look at your circumstances and think that doing this to you is acceptable is beyond me.
The comments on the branded food addicts reminded me of some friends of mine who didn't trust fresh food (one refused to eat meat from the butcher as it wasn't shrink wrapped) but would quite happily eat processed ready meals. He's now a mature student and wonders why he has no cash. I've tried to enlighten him, I give up.

Strange that isnt it, realistically cutting MP salaries in half would still leave them with a reasonable wage, especially with expenses and all the other work they do, would probably save more too, yet taking money from the weak and vulnerable is deemed the way to go.
Whats the phrase "we're all in it together" not blinking likely. We are all in sinking ship and they are all in comfortable lifeboats!

PAH that's shocking! I admit I used to go to the doctor's in unwashed clothes and with greasy hair to convince them that my depression really was bad (it was). People judge by appearances and if you're busting a gut to keep yourself clean and socially acceptable that's all they see, they don't see that it might have taken you two or three hours to summon up the mental energy or cope with pain to get yourself looking 'normal'. Hugs to you (()).

I had a conversation with my lodger tonight where I said I know I only work 7 months of the year and many people would think that was downright lazy, but then I only claim benefits for about 4 months and it's the only way I can cope and not go over the edge. I have tried working full-time (led to complete breakdown) and part-time in more normal working-pattern jobs (always having days off because I just couldn't cope to face the day). This way I can maintain an even keel. I have the young gay people as lodgers and take part in a couple of community organisations, and look after my health as best I can so that I can put something back into society and not be a drain on the NHS to try and make up for not being able to work full-time. (NB by not being a drain on the NHS I mean trying to eat a proper diet and not screw my own health up by starting smoking or drinking a lot and basically trying not to get any of the 'lifestyle' diseases. I'm not insinuating at all that anyone on here who is ill is a drain on the NHS!) It does make me feel guilty though, not to mention useless. But I'd be more useless if I had another breakdown, which is what would happen otherwise!

Mardatha it must be rent rise issuing day - I got notification of my rent increasing in April too. It's only going up a couple of pounds a month so it could be much worse. I know my Housing Association is very worried about the changes to HB and especially the new Universal Payment which is coming in, as many people will spend it (some !!!!lessly and some not) and not use the housing benefit part of it to pay their rent. This will cause all sorts of income problems for Housing Associations, not to mention of course what it will do for those tenants who will find themselves in arrears. Some people are not able to deal with things by themselves. When I was ill with depression I was lucky that I had already set everything up on direct debit, because if it had been left to me to go and physically pay bills I would have been stuffed as I didn't have the energy to care.

It wouldn't be so bad if we really were all in it together.

Oh yeah and I read yesterday that some Tory MP's had been sent on a training course to learn how to engage with Black people, public-sector workers and Northeners!!!!!!!! The bl**dy cheek of it.

    Hey ho.
Am off to watch superscrimpers on the catch-up service as you lot have piqued my curiosity. £8.99 for spag bol - was that for a whole family? Please tell me it wasn't just one portion !

PAH I would get in touch with your MP too. The more people complain the better.

Well I can tell you what happened at the weekend now. My dd's friends baby died. The doctors were fairly sure it was SIDS but the post mortem could not be done until Monday. The police and social services were involved and she could not stay with her other kids , they took away her clothes and other things "just in case". They were unpleasant to her and her husband and there were also photographers from the local papers but they had their pictures deleted by the police. Yesterday Mum Dad and oldest daughter were all arrested. Apparently it is standard procedure??

I have just had a call from DD to say that the results of the pm were inconclusive , they are awaiting a couple of other results but do not expect them to show anything and have said they may never know why he died.

I felt so angry because the "standard procedure" is so barbaric. Even rape victims get better treatment but only after a long hard fight to get the system changed.

This young womans children are her life and what they did was cruel in the extreme.

When you contrast it with the poor children that have died in recent years at the hands of parents or other people in their lives and yet the authorities knew for a long long time that things were not right it is just unbelievable.

Sorry this is a rant but there does not seem to be any sense or rhyme and reason in the different ways people are treated.
  • PAH Too terrible for words, how dare they

Grandma I hope you have managed to catch some zzzzzzzzzs

Grandma that's terrible; I read a similar story in a magazine recently so that must be the way they do it. I guess from their point of view they are protecting the other children but there must be a less horrifying way of doing it. My heart goes out to this poor woman and her family.
