We're escaping the freezing temps, too :T
I don't find calorie counting does it for me - simply depresses me. I'm afraid only smaller portions do it...and step up the exercise, which can be anything - energetic housework, longer walks, doesn't have to be the gym. Have you tried the OS
thread on weight loss?...some of us are over there trying to encourage each other.... don't be shy0 -
Come onto the Old Style Weight Loss Thread....I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
And check out calorie counting anyway - it isn't that bad if you find a site that suits you. I'm losing 1.5lbs a week and I'm not hungry. And you only need to lose about 1lb a week."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

I know how you mean when you don't feel like you have anything constructive to say - I feel like that too and I daresay sometimes I'm not all that helpful, but I feel that sometimes knowing people are thinking of you is enough. Hopefully anyway
But this is a thread for everyone, and I do hope everyone feels a part of it! I've not phrased this very well have I?
I think you phrased that very well Scrabbles, far better than I could.gardenia - ((hugs)) - I hate my birthday with a passion - it always reminds me how little people in RL really know me. I find it brings how how different people are, most I know have fabulous birthday weekends where parents mind kids and they have a stress free lovely time, whereas real life still goes on for me.
Yes Kidcat, that is exactly how I feel. While I don't want anyone to have a rubbish birthday I can't help feeling a bit aaargh when I hear that yet another friend's OH has whisked her away for a long weekend, or that her mother has taken the kids off her hands so she can have a night out with her friends. I know I sound a bit like a spoilt brat stamping her foot, & like I've said I don't want others to have a bad time - I just wonder when my good time will come?
I'd hoped there may have been a card in today's post for me - but no. Then I think I need to get over myself - when I read what others have put up with/going through, well my birthday just pales in comparision.Friends stopped celebrating with me right about the time my illness stopped me from being 'fun' anymore, they can't see any way to celebrate than by getting drunk, having a restaurant or takeaway meal, or going dancing, none of which I can do. My OH is a wonderful man in many ways but he just doesn't get birthdays. He doesn't understand why I'd want to celebrate it, or the point of sending a card, or anything like that. He never buys a gift - he says if I want something I can just go and buy it, birthday or not, and we'll figure out a way to pay for it. Very sweet of him, but it's just not the point. So even if you are surrounded by friends and family a birthday can be a lonely time.
But don't forget you've got your big extended MSE family hereWe all love you and will celebrate with you!
Thank you all for your kind words & wishes - Scrabbles you have said the right thing, as usual.Happy belated birthday, gardeniaI didn't think I'd hear from someone else whose mother forgets their birthdays. You'd think if anyone had a reason to remember, it'd be them, right? :undecided I'm sure your friends will be mortified when they realise they've forgotten. Why not invite them out?
Yes, I don't really get the mother forgetting a child's birthday thing either. You are right my friends will probably be mortified, but I'm not going to say anything as they both have family members whose birthdays are either side of mine, so I thought they'd remember.
One of them lives 5 hours away & I haven't been out in the evening for well over 18 months. I find it almost impossible to see in the dark, & when I did go out before I'd trip over chairs, knock over glasses I hadn't seen etc. & it just got too embarrasing. I'd also need to factor in a babysitter, & cabs there & back on top of whatever the night out might cost & I can't really justify the cost at the moment.
D&DD - you are spot on with the flower, thank you! I think the smell of gardenias is the best scent in the world, but they are absolute swines to grow & I've lost count of how many I've murdered over the years :rotfl:& I have another one lingering on my windowsill that I expect to keel over at any time.
Byatt - bless you for posting about my b'day when you are coping with all that :A I don't have any constructive advice but I want to send a hug.And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0 -
I had a Weight Watchers meal tonight it was alright BUT there wasnt much of it, I could have eaten 4 times that amount.....:eek:....Any tips for me please...?:D
I was given a free three-month trial of WW online when it switched to propoints. A few days in I received my diagnosis and had to switch to very-low-fat diet, so didn't bother with WW. But a month or so later I got curious and typed in what I was eating. I was shocked to find that that days food, from a menu created by a dietician, with around 1200 calories and so little fat it has to be medically supervised, was apparently way over the day's points allowance.
I find that lots of veggies fills me up. I have huge portions of veg or salad with everything, and always have HM soup as a starter (and often as a snack) as I find them very filling. The jury is out on this thread as to whether to limit carbs or not. Personally I find that jacket potatoes and wholemeal rice, pasta, and bread are a godsend as they are so filling.
If you want a proper 'diet' I know loads of people doing Slimming World. It seems to work well for them. But diets aren't one-size-fits-all, different people will find different diets easier. As Molly says, there's a big old weight-loss thread, I'm sure they'll have loads of different ideas!0 -
I went to Mr T's today as I had a £6 off voucher plus wanted the petrol coupon. I only bought what I knew wasnt dearer else where and got a couple of shirts to put away for future presents. I now have a £5 off £40 shop for next week so will be researching to make the most of that. The money I save goes in my Christmas savings jar. Unfortunately, our local supermarkets never seem to have decent whoopsies these days.

Gardenia, thanks for the hug.:A Maybe for next birthday plan something just for yourself; a treat of some sort or an outing. My birthday was similar last year, so this year I shall buy myself some flowers or a book I want. I would do it for a friend so why not for myself?
3v3, someone in my family keeps ducks, she gets lots of eggs from them. Glad you got the fruit trees you wanted. It's awful how some people behave. Are they suitable for pots? edit: :rotfl: the trees not the people!
Talking about losing weight, was it Ruth Jones (from Gavin & Stacey) who lost a lot of weight (over a long time) just by having smaller portions?
Esther, I've heard the coop is good for reductions but I've never been able to find any there. All my SM's are spread around, so it's not worth the petrol to go to them all, so I just take a chance when I'm passing. Still no luck with the reduced cream! :cool:0 -
Smiley, so glad Bruno is fine. What a brave dog. They are so stoical aren't they.
MrsLurchwalker, loved your posts about Bruno; so funny. :rotfl:
GQ, hope the BB is painless and quick.
Catbells, hope your frozen pipe problem is sorted out soon; that is a worry.
Just noticed the time! Need to go to bed.0 -
Gailey - I'm another one glad to see you back. Hope all the colds are on the mend now.
Think I may have asked this already, but do you know about the Bristol OS meet-up on 31st March? Would be great to meet you along with all the others!
I haven't been here for a couple of days - seem to have been extra busy. One reason is that we have three family birthdays this coming week, and I've spent ages going round the shops looking for presents. All done and dusted now, including the wrapping, but it all takes so long (never mind the money side of it!)Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0
