I used to love that badedas advert but can't remember actually buying any :D

Mar you need to go to the shop and unscrew all the bottles and do the sniff test before you part with any money, particularly if its an expensive one.

I agree with comments re the euro break up, I'm sure there are all sorts of preps going on behind the scenes. I'd rather not know unless I have to! I do worry about my pension fund though, its already in the red by several million thanks to the employer (US based) board deciding they were a bit hard up so helping themselves to millions; its a sure bet their pensions didn't suffer!

I've got two barbie pink grandaughters GQ, it makes me bilious just looking at them. Or their clothes. Or their toys. Or their bedrooms. _pale_

My oldest granddaughter is 12 now and thankfully now grown out of Barbie pink - she had her bedroom here decorated that colour, I shuddered everytime i went in, so much pink. Now instead she likes black and the old scull :eeks, but doesn't use the room now so walls are now just white, mind you I remember at 18 decorating my bedroom ( wasn't allowed to choose the colour before then) with black walls and thought it looked so good.

Youngest granddaughter is 2 and just starting down the pink route, everything mummy buys her is pink and if I knit her anything it must be pink. Mummy is so pleased about this as their first child is a boy ( 6) and so she couldn't go as gooey with his decorations or clothes.

On the pie note you all shame me, I only have 4 in my tin collection, next week I must add some more as its true they are so handy - once when oven broke I put a little bit of water in a pan and cooked the pie in it and although wasn't brown on top, till I covered it with gravy it was still just as good, pastry rose, even firmed up on top. Its the one thing that saddens me no alternative to an oven if power failed. I keep looking longingly at a Cobb, one day maybe one day:(

On moving all my tins to bookcase pantry upstairs I realised just how little I have in way of tins if there was a powercut and freezer went down, got to plan out getting more. Family been asking me what I want for christmas maybe I should just say tins :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

    Fashion on a ration coupon 2021 - 21 left
  • Hubby just come home from work with a letter saying they will get a bonus this year - last years was £150 - even though they want 8 people to take redundancy, so me thinks that bonus whatever it will be will be converted into tins asap ( hubby has other ideas). The week the bonus is paid is the week they will announce who is being made redundant, methinks they are doing that on purpose to try and soften the blow.

Sister asked what I wanted and I said, whilst I was grateful for anything, what I would REALLY like was a cardboard box full of tins of baked beans, tomatoes, sweetcorn, flour, yeast, sugar ...... you get the picture. She thought this was a great idea:T

I too have less than my usual quota of tins...... but money off coupon in Telegraph tomorrow for Lidl. Works out at 13% off after taking into account the cost of the paper so I'm going to restock. £60 is a lot to find all at once at this time of the year but worth it imo due to doom/gloom and even if that comes to nothing, there is the small issue of snow and flu season. It makes me nervous not to have a fair whack of food in the house!

Hmm yeah. Snow especially in our neck of the woods. I'm supposed to be doing an Aldi trip tonight but I feel so cold I just don't feel like it. Maybe I might to get DH to look after the dog and put the children to bed, I fancy a night off in my own little world even if it is just Aldi.

Tins it will be, toilet rolls and some UHT milk. Do Aldi do tinned pies? I've never had a tinned pie.

There was hysteria on the Preparing for winter thread when one poster said she was down to her last toilet roll  most of us have a toilet roll mountain after months of preparing for a bad winter :D

Neither did finding out on Monday that apparently I'm a walking tub of lard. I'm not sure what I'm going to about it, but know I have to do something. It's not just hating exercise that's the problem, when I'm in a depressed patch I don't want to leave the house or do anything really. I know that I'm spending too long on the laptop as a coping mechanism and that isn't helping either.

I am so with you on this - I've got to the point where I can quite easily spend days on t'internet (when my kids are at their dad's) & ignore the real world. Sometimes I love the cosiness of it, but I know it isn't doing me any good in the long term. However sometimes being in the real world is just too depressing -

What's the betting that the euro goes before xmas then? Am sure the worlds banks esp American and Japan, have enough probs of their own at home without having to bail out Europe. Interesting times innit !

    Interesting it certainly is
Sorry for the moan I just needed to get it out of my system.:o

That is the beauty of this thread. Lots of kind & thoughtful people who will help you get through the day. I'm so grateful for the support & advice I get here so thanks everyone

My own Mum is a house owner snob. She doesn't tell anyone we rent - tells them we couldn't cope with a small newbuild and decided to buy a larger, older, period house. It's a joke!

What an odd point of view (hers, not yours :rotfl:).

I do agree that there are a lot of housing snobs around - I have a mortgage on a small terraced house and several people have asked me why I never moved up the housing ladder, but I could never see the point. And the talk of renting being like throwing away money is stupid - mortgagees pay loads in interest, what's so clever about that? People make a home, not the building - pity some people can't see that. :(

Totally agree with this. I'd like to move house & would rent quite happily.

Absolutely. I've learnt so much from this site my friends think I'm bonkers.

Phew - finally caught up! Off to buy some tins....

If any of you have a spare hour or so then this thread has some hilarious bits in it. Some of the posts are from the tin foil hat brigade but may help raise a smile :D Quite worrying to see how much the prices of some foods have gone up in a few years. Mardatha - you may remember this one!

I've just reread it - while wearing my lovely fleece PJs tucked into my hiking socks (no draughts whistling up my legs), while wrapped in a fleece blanket. How attractive I must look! No heating on here yet.

Got to love fleece - I wrap myself up in a fleece balnket before crawling into bed with a hottie bottie - lovely. Real bummer to have to get up for a pee....
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...
