Good morning everyone, am I the first up? I'm off on a 'big birdwatch' starting in an hour's time, so just popped in before I walk the dogs. Very sorry to read of all these black dogs and of people feeling so poorly.

My own real black dog (well, black with a white blaze down his chest) has to have an operation on Tuesday to remove a couple of lumps. He is also losing weight, and is at the lowest weight he's ever been, so it's not looking good, but I won't know for sure until his lumps have been to the histology lab and his blood tests are back. As I type this I am quite calm, but last night I was in tears for a good part of the evening. I am terrified that he might die under the anaesthetic (he'll be 14 in a week's time, but he is extremely fit for his age) or that the vet will say the x-ray has revealed tumours internally and it would be kinder not to wake him up. Oh bum I'm crying again. Sorry. I know when you get an animal you are inevitably setting yourself up for a broken heart but it doesn't make it any easier!

Anyway, I'd better get going. I have my thermals on already .... :rotfl:

  • Byatt, I started work in the 1960, I was glad to have a uniform as all I had was my school uniform & no other clothes at all & as there was never any food at home (unless you counted ciggies & coffee) so my 10s (50p) has to cover all my food needs.
Softstuff I hope you feel better soon.
Pay day for me yesterday, I've transferred money to my savings, today I will go to the bank, get the cash out for the month & divide it into all the different pots & envelopes I use to budget with.
Smiley, I'm so sorry, fingers crossed for you.

Ah yes, B&T, a woman after my own heart ! A wee bit of voodoo does you the world of good! :D

I have always had an internal dartsboard to pin photos of unpleasant people to. Have got very good at darts over the years! I still throw them at photo of a Theatre Sister I worked with 30 years ago. She asked me, since I was so tall, had I not thought to have an operation to have some 'inches removed from my legs !!'
I know, still throwing them after 30 years, still rankles!

PIC well done on not having a ciggie over this! :T

Hope you are feeling better soon Soft-stuff. I have a low B12 but not pernicious anaemia thing going on too. Mine very mild but they still don't know what's going on....bit of limbo really. Sounds like you have a good Dr tho :)

Softsuff - I do hope you get sorted soon (((hugs)))

Have been up since silly oclock again (DS seems to require only a few hours sleep) and am going to try to get the day started as I mean to go on, big clean up washing on etc and then am popping to Aldi to use my voucher!!
Pick up car this afternoon and will use the opportunity to call past Lidl and grab some weekend bargains - dont usually manage to get their at weekend so will be a chance to see how good they are.
  • SmileyT I will be rooting for your poorly puppy, hoping that all will be well and he will come home again to you. Our boy is also black with a white blaize on his chest and we have had so many problems with him over the years, I know just how much you worry about them. Have a good day birdwatching it won't make it go away as a problem but, might give you a bit of distraction from it. Will keep everything crossed for him on Tuesday - which probably means I'll fall flat on my face! Keep your pecker up pet. Cheers Lyn.

My DD school put huge pressure on her over prom - they spent five years telling them how it was the culmination of five years and vital. Was massive pressure on parents. Cynically I think its about making the school look good, they make a huge splash in the paper and hire photographers to get best pics for press!!
We did the dress from ebay made in Chine which kept costs down, didnt do a limo (although hiring it with a group makes most sense if you can do that), my parents paid for her make up and nails to be done and we paid for the hair. We were fortunate in that financially we were able to do it. I think the trick is to make it unique to your child at a cost you can live with.
As someone says ask friends about cars, maybe even ask if anyone has a bridesmaids dress. Get the girls together in a group and have them get ready together to do hair, nails and make up together.
Odds are one parent is great with nails but rubbish at hair, so a skill sharing session would be great fun.

I think you are right about it being the schools, as round here they all have photographers coming in and they do individual shots etc just like at a wedding then the school gets a cut form the sale of said photos.
My DS1 who should have gone to his prom last year point blank stated from the start of the preparations for it that he wasn't bothered, couldn't see the point of us spending out money on clothes he more than likely wouldn't wear again, and all the other gubbings, he wasn't the only one either who refused to go either from his peer group.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

Hubby has pernicious anaemia it runs in the family. Hair turned a gorgeous silver within weeks :) He gets shots 5 weekly but is ready to go down to 4 I think. There is noway you should wait for 3 monthly - if anybody has it and you're knackered then go to the doc and ask him to shorten the 12 weeks to 10. Be firm - its not a medical thing its a money/convenience thing for the NHS. Used to be 4 weekly but some erk decided oh lets give them a bigger dose less often and it will cost less. But some people cant cope with that and run out early.
I got all hopeful and had mine tested to see if thats why I was a slug but no, my levels are high.

Smiley - so sorry about your pooch, must be an awful worry for you.

Softstuff - sorry you are feeling slug-like, hopefully you will soon be able to upgrade to feeling a bit snaily, followed by feeling generally catterpillarish and then an overwhemlingly lovely butterflyness!

I am having my daily internal fight with myself - stay loafing on the sofa under a quilt or get up, washed and dressed and do something.
Honestly, kicking oneself up ones own bum is awfully tricky sometimes!

i always get my b12 at 10 weeks or whenever I start craving oily fish and salmon.
