Survived DS's birthday party and had a lovely restful afternoon at a friend's new house for coffee and lovely Lorraine Pascale cheese straws - puff pastry spread with mustard, bacon & grated cheddar then twisted round, chilled for 20 mins then baked for 20 mins. To die for! And super easy (my kind of snack).
Funny all this talk of vitamin deficiency. In 2010 I was in a complete state and had both knees replaced (I was 40.), and while I was having all kinds of tests they found I was extremely low in Vitamin D. I must say it was never adequately explained to me what this meant and I had so much else on my plate I didn't research it. I'm probably deficient again as I have stopped taking the tablets. I was taking so may before and after the surgery, and the tramadol in particular completely messed me up - long story but morphine had no effect on me at all for either knee op so after the anaesthetic wore off I had a very unpleasant time until they could change the meds. So I wasn't keen to keep on taking tablets. I still have some so I should take them again.
I seem to be waffling, and I need to make some dinner out of chicken thighs and haven't even thought what yet so I had better go!

Hulloo everyone. Thank you for your kind wishes for Bruno-dog. I am attempting to remain calm. The birdwatch helped. We saw 33 species of birds (magpie, crow, wood pigeon, dunnock, robin, wren, great tit, blue tit, long-tailed tit, coal tit, chaffinch, goldcrest, treecreeper, nuthatch, mistle and song thrush, redwing, a heron, blackbird, feral pigeon, greenfinch, greater spotted woodpecker, canada geese, moorhen, tufted duck, coot, common gull, black-headed gull, goosander, mallard, jay and a sparrowhawk in a tree. Oh, and a cormorant flew overhead!) Not bad for an inner-city park. And in my backyard I saw sparrows and the uncommon bird who comes for his mealworms and who I'm not going to mention by name in case I get a stampede of twitchers to my door!!

So I've seen 35 species of birds today - how lucky am I? I would recommend birdwatching as a way of relaxing and taking your mind off things. I think the long-tailed tits are my favourite - they are so round and fluffy, and have such tiny wee beaks!

However, my feet were sooooo cold when I got back, I had to sandwich them between two hot water bottles to get them to come back to life again!

I am quite amazed at how many people on here are suffering from serious vitamin deficiencies. I can't quite fathom how the NHS can justify not giving B12 injections when they are needed - surely B12 can't be that expensive, for goodness' sake?

Re winter depression - I second the biobulbs and sadlights. And the vitamin D. I take a multivit and mineral tablet and a vitamin D2 (because I'm vegan and D3 isn't vegan) every night before I go to bed. I read somewhere that it is best to take vitamin tablets at night because when you sleep is when your body is doing all its repair work. I don't know how true that is, but I have got into the habit of taking them before I set my alarm clock.

Shegar, how lucky you are, having great crested newts - it must be fascinating watching them develop. Mrs Lurcherwalker, the little girl sounds lovely - how fantastic that she has a sense of wonder around animals and is so gentle with them. Not like the horrible boy I saw in the park today, who kicked his dog because it wouldn't obey him (yes, I did give him a piece of my mind!).

I hope everyone has a relaxing Saturday evening and chance to chill out a bit.

    Evening Toughies

Not a jolly day today - suffice to say, it's a black arm band day :(

But, on a positive note: remember this - no matter how bleak life appears; at least you are breathing and therefore you have "hope". Without hope, who are we but deceased?

Just take one moment (the time it takes to hit "reply"?) and consider how much you have to be thankful for; or, if you prefer, take one moment (the time it takes to hit "reply") and consider, how much would you miss if you had no choice? That is the the reality of "thoughness" in its essence.

I am so glad I have breath in my body to see me though this post; I am so glad I have like-minded others who, despite life's set-backs, continue to strive for the future; I am so glad, today was not *my* last.

I do so dislike it when life throws a curve ball! At least it makes me think on a bigger level.

Think on a bigger level, Toughies! Nite-nite x

3V3 - so sorry (((hugs))) - we have all had those days. We all know how bleak they are, but know we must move forward. Slowly. Slowly the light will come back.

  • Wise words 3v3, I lost a close and wonderful friend to cancer last year, he was 45, I live every day as he would want me to because I can and he can't. It's a wonderful gift that he left me with.

    Big hugs <<<<Hugs>>>>>
