Good afternoon all. Hope everyone's feeling well today. I was very down yesterday after my dentist visit. Even after the anasthetic wore off my face felt quite sore for the rest of the day. Thankfully back to normal now though.
Kimsmum, so very sorry to hear about your friend. What a shock that must have been.
GreyQueen, not sure if you have a Sainsbury near you (or in cycling distance). That's where I seem to have the most luck in finding reduced double cream. I love the mental image of toughies up and down the nation shaking/rolling/beating cream into butter
Sammy_Kaye if you have a means of transport, it's worth looking at the whoopsie corner in places like Homebase. They often have bags of compost reduced to ridiculously low prices because they're damaged (usually a small split in the bag or something like that - take tape with you!)
Whoopsie corner often also has plants for 10-20p that are a bit sorry looking. Bringing them home and giving them a good soak usually revives them. We got cheap cucumber plants like this last year.
Some light entertainment outside the window a little while ago. A few weeks before Christmas the lamp-post outside our house was destroyed when someone reversed their car into it. The replacement has just been installed. Two chaps from the highways dept then arrived in a van, got out, PUT ON A HARD HAT EACH, and went to look at it, took a photograph, went back to van, removed hard hats and drove off. Just for good measure, they were wearing hi-vis jackets and trousers over their suits. It's broad daylight.0 -
Ginnyknit, I'd forgotten about the Hovis baby loaves they were perfect for the job. I think the Giants Picnic idea first came up when a friend got some quail and used to give the girls some eggs when we visited the smallholding, we also used to have Babybel cheeses, cherry tomatoes and little seedless grapes as part of the picnic. Posession, the best birthday party I can remember was when we did this for eldest DD's 5th birthday and I got some of those boxes from the baker that they put big cakes in, the white cardboard ones and gave every little guest a box of thier own with thier name on it, went down very well and no washing up afterwards. Hope your DD enjoys if you do use it for the Teddy Bears Party, Cheers Lyn.0

If there's no protein in butter, and those butter buds remove fat and more water, what on earth are they? Expensive for one!

I've been missing on here for a little while. I've been really busy decorating my kitchen. I'm trying to keep the costs right down and to be fair it's been basic white paint, backing paper and B & M's wallpaper paste up until now. I'm torn between knowing I will be living in this house for a long while and making do because it is a rental house. Anyway, as ever, trying to make it nice without actually spending much in the way of money.
My little one's teacher has started a dance class in the village hall on a Sunday. I jumped at the change of taking my two as they don't have any hobbies. I then had to think very carefully whether we should be spending £8 per week on them and I had decided absolutely. They don't do anything and this is something they both will enjoy. Besides, child benefit should be about child development too shouldn't it? That was my reasoning anyway.
Swimming lessons cost £50 for a block of ten sessions. I'm wondering if I can teach my 7 year old myself?0 -
Just in case any one is interested the "Stay Hot Pot" has been reduced at Lakeland http://www.lakeland.co.uk/15557/Stay-Hot-Pot
If you remember previous discussions you can start off your stew on the hob, boil for about 15 minutes and then transfer to the double walled thermal container to finish off cooking. It takes about 6 hours but obviously uses no gas or electricity. This has now been reduced from £59.99 to £29.99, still expensive but more reasonable.
I'm going to give it a go.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z Able Archer0 -
Good afternoon everyone. We went to Booker cash and carry this morning just to check out the prices, but we did manage to pick up some bargains,
4kg for brown sauce for 2.99
24 pack of toilet rolls for £2.40
Box of 250 neon bendy straws for 99p
1 litre hot chilli sauce for £1.50
24 cans of Carling black label for £6.00
I did get a massive bag of Lemons for £3 and I'm avidly reading a book about all the money saving things you can do with them!
We looked at the chicken breasts which were £19.99 for 5kg which we though was quite good value but could'nt afford it today.
On the whole it was a little more expensive than the major supermarkets especially when offers are on the things we buy but I would go again for certain things.
On the zip front my husband always puts a keyring ring through the actual zip and hooks it onto the jeans button ,he does buy jeans from Q.S. and Asda and you can't always rely upon the zip to stay up!
I'm glad the rugs link has been popular ,they really are easy and you can vary the width of material and it makes thicker rugs.
shandyclover If you need anything else just ask,my kids love being at College,it is very different to school ,no bullying and more reason to do the work,it's making them more independant and they take responsibility for their actions.0 -

Well, young person is doing the washing up but I want to scream ...... He will not use the 'wash it in the bowl then rinse a few items together/pour a jug of hot water over to rinse' method but instead has the hot tap running all the time. I'm sure it's the equivalent of running a bath.
I must remain calm.
I must remain calm.
He also does his washing at 70 degrees.
I must remain calm.
I must remain calm.
I have tried to teach him to be energy efficient but .... :wall:
Oh well. He'll learn the hard way when he gets his own place, and he should only be with me for a few months. He's not too bad really - at least he doesn't switch the heating on and run round in a sleeveless vest like the others I have had. Could be worse .....Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Hello
Had a whole day cleaning today  The only thing I can say is I am glad Kim n Aggie didn't turn up with a film crew as the house was Urgh minging as my kids would say :rotfl:
Lady turned up with the paperwork for the cat fostering so I think we will be getting our first intake on Saturday :j I can't wait to see my cats reaction, will they sulk? I'm betting they will sit staring at the pen all day :rotfl:
DH's boss at work THE MEGA BEAST has reared her ugly head again and now she is ummmmmmmm "knocking off the power that is" she thinks she owns everything and everyone. I hope Karma bites this one in the butt pretty quickly and give us all a holiday
As everyone else I am waiting for whoopsie cream and last night I checked all the dates to see when they would be reduced and I will have to wait for the 12th
Quick question.......do you rinse the butter once it has formed ??? as I read it somewhere on here.
Bendy veg soup for tea and the kids are having whoopsie pizza because I can not be doing with any moaning :rotfl::rotfl:

Do any of you ladies using evoo, still exfoliate and do you use natural products for that?
Started using it a couple of weeks ago and at first my skin was lovely and soft but it now feels really rough. I seem to remember something about using porridge oats for exfoliation, or sea salt but don't have any of that, only table salt. I don't use the castor oil only the evoo. Esther x
I have noticed this too, I think i will get a facepack. I know it isn't very OS or MSE but I want to make sure it is something that works. I am really happy with the EVOO generally especially as it is cheaper and easier so if it just means a facepack every so often then that's fine - I used to do this anyway. I exfoliated with a branded product this morning and that didn't make any difference, so we shall see.
Back to our normal Thursday routine today, rush home, scoff tea, take kids to their activities, OH goes to choir and then I do dad's shopping online and rush round picking up kids and whichever of their mates needs a lift.
Freezer suprise was unusual but tasty tonight - LO nut roast, LO "surprise mash", whoopsied spanish potatoes and green beans. Can finally see a dent in freezer stocks and may even be able to do an inventory soon.:T Next week is another freezer surprise week, but we are having the night off tomorrow and all eating the same thing. DD wants to do risotto, which she always pronounces riz oh toe :rotfl: Mind you, you should have heard her try to pronounce Dolgellau when we went on holiday. Sammy Kaye will like this - she said it was Doll gelloo. Good job we didn't go to llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch :rotfl:(and, yes, I can pronounce it - someone once taught me in a pub when I was fairly drunk, but i can remember it and it's right!)
Felt so rubbish this morning nearly couldn't go to work, but once there I was OK and glad I went. There is new talk of redundancies - voluntary at first but then compulsory. I think this time I may be at risk - que sera sera.
Ah well, best do dad's shopping before the Archers. (goes off, humming the theme tune - and so will you all be now!)I wanna be in the room where it happens0
