Hello everyone!
I stumbled over this thread a couple of days ago and became so hooked I had to join! After reading through, I feel as though you are my friends already, and thought it would be rather rude of me to not introduce myself to you!
Your tips and stories are inspirational and one day I hope to be as savvy as you!
I'll certainly be checking in very often, and who knows, even I may have a tip or two to share!
PS Tesco - 4 x tins beans, buy 1 get 2 free - ideal for storing underneath beds, cupboard kickboards, and bath panels!

Welcome Carissa. As a fellow newbie I can say that you will have to check in often as this thread moves at a fair old pace!0 -
Stiltwalker - hugs - I found the LBM made a huge difference, I then I spent time discussing it with OH over lunch a few days back, which helped more. He has been making lots of noises about my returning to work recently but when I talked over the practicalities and how much extra I need to be here I think he finally understood it. Years ago we had discussed the idea of my returning to work and him staying home but he admits freely he would not cope and his temperament is suited to it.
Applying for DLA took me so long - kept thinking well hes not that bad - all seven years old are hard work. BUt it was when a friend told me I had to get on with it, and I sat down with the forms that I began to see how different he really is. I cried through filling in the form, thankfully I had made detailed notes and diary type stuff over the preceeding months. It took two hours all in to write it all and I sent it recorded delivery - 11 days later the money went into the bank and the letter arrived.
Well I have just returned from the shops, and my how busy they were. I took the two littlies solo, which is something I try never to do but as OH was working, DD17 had essays to finish and DS13 is having a bad ASd day I decided to try alone. I am now completely exhausted and resorted to pure bribery just to survive!! Mcflurries only for the well behaved (ie that stay in trolley and dont run off).
NO cheap tins of tomatoes in our BM which is a blow as we are down to our last tin!!
People seemed to be buying everything in sight with huge great trolleys - surely these people were the sames ones who had huge trolleys before Christmas too?0 -
Hi carissa
Made a momentous decision (well for me anyway) yesterday and applied for Carers allowance - have been advised over and over again that I should but couldnt get my head around the idea. BUt having mentally now accepted I am a full time carer and will be for the foreseeable future I have gone ahead and done it. It has cleared my mind somewhat and helped me focus - I am now in the position that should anything happen to OH (be it divorce, death or incapacitation - oops nearly said decapitation:rotfl:) I would financially be able to cope single handed.
Well done on applying for CA KidCat. I too understand about the mental adjustment of becoming a full-time carer to your child, the forseeable future is a hard one to get your head around as well.
This May will see me my third year as a ft Carer to my adult son. He had to drop out of 6th form at 17 and was finally diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome and associated mental health problems. Previously I worked full-time and was the major wage earner. He will be 20 this year and although I'm a lot better than I was, I still have a fair old way to go along the adjustment road. One step at a time eh? Luv Thriftyxxx0 -

Sold them for the scrap value (aluminium) and bought a guide dog
Both the RNIB and the RNLI used to ask people to collect them.Murphy was an optimist!!!0 -
Kidcat, and all you others who are ft carers, you are so brave, it must be completely exhausting and I feel humbled by your ....ooh, I don't know the right word, is it determination, is it strength of will?..........whatever it is, you have it in spades and I don't. Respect.
Well, as promised, I tried the scotch pancake recipe today. I made plain ones with honey drizzled on top, raisin ones with caster sugar on top, lemon-y ones with butter on. Nom,nom, nom. My backside is growing as we speak though! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. Right Bobby, put the frying pan down and back away from the cooker, enough is enough (well, maybe just some plain ones with jam on? )0 -
Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! And yikes! This does move fast!!
Just nipped to Tesco's for some odds and sods, but alas beans all gone (Boo!). But now buy 1 get 2 free on tins of tomatoes (Hooray!)
Suddenly remembered while walking past our local Wilko's that it's my darling little nephews 2nd birthday tomorrow (must organise the new calendar I bought today - 2 for 50p in the card shop) and found that lots of their toys are half price, so bought him a little ride on truck for a fiver, and a box of toy cars for £2. Also found one of those 'Santa, please stop here' signs for my youngest DD for 25p ready for next Crimbo.
Going to make a start on the veg for tomorrows dinner, bath the little'un and then relax with a chilled glass of Aldi's finest rose.0 -
Been to the first jumble of the year :j:j
I bought my first Christmas present from there for 20p a lovely pair of brand new, character dog slippers. I have some gifts I got for crimbo stashed away in the gift box but this is the first bargain I have found to put away so I am pleased.
I also got a box full of halloween decs for £1 so will be having a sort through before they go in the loft.
A large ceramic, family size dish for 50p they people overlooked as it was a tad mucky but I have put it in soak and with the help of a scourer it has come up as new. Never heard of the make Emile Henry but it feels like a good heavy make.
A bag, jumper, pair of leather boots and a dress all for 20p each.
Having an Indian takeaway tonight........all ready meals from mr Ts whoopsie isle so meal for 5 for under £2. I am not really keen on Indian food but I am keen on the price and not having to cook only heat up :rotfl:
I have been looking for days for whoopsie cream and there have been stacks for ages but now I want some , not a oneI can't wait to try it.
I have had cats for years and never had a problem mixing any cats together. The usual hiss fits for a few days, then the ignoring I can't see you stage, the oh your not so bad stage then the gang up against you stage :rotfl::rotfl: lurv cats:D
I think I may be a tad hormonal at the moment as I sat and watched Happy feet with DGD on Friday when I picked her up from school and I nearly criedI don't usually cry, once a year perhaps (was not the done thing growing up) but for some reason I felt pretty close :rotfl::rotfl:
Enough waffling its takeaway and film night with the boys and tonights showing is the Hogfather.

TSL, are you and your son supported by the LD team and enabling service? The reason I ask is that these services were very keen to get my dd into independent living and I found once she reached 18, I had no say at all. Well, I did say, but they put me down as an over protective mum. My dd is living alone in a flat and it's a nightmare, because she has said she doesn't want to move and that's it...she has some level of support, about 2,5 hours a week and that's considered good.
PM me if you prefer. Not sure what I'm saying really, just that I would have done things differently perhaps; I don't know. I am to'ing and fro'ing to my dd's and she contacts me by phone a dozen times a day (and night)...there's always some crisis. My dd likes to do her own thing, but when she was around your son's age she just wouldn't listen to me at all (she's middle 20's now). Stayed out late etc. The usual stuff you go through with teens but at an (chronological) older age.0 -
Hi ladies (and gents if there are any lurking)
Just wanted to pop on and say thanks to GreyQueen for the reminder to get to P**ndl*nd for the onion sets etc this week  have bought mine and can't wait for the growing season to properly get under way. I hope they taste good this year !
Also I managed to get 5 pots of extra thick double cream for 15p a goso I have today had a go at making butter and it worked brilliantly .... have nearly 2 lbs of butter in my freezer now and still 1 pot to use :rotfl: so for 60p I thought great bargain. I also made pancakes with some of the buttermilk and they were delish, really light and fluffy. I have another pint in the fridge and will make some scones tomorrow with that and maybe some more pancakes
Love following everything on here, sad stories and all and yes it sure does move fast !
Have a lovely evening

I have an Emile Henry tagine which OH bought me for a present and it was only marginally less expensive than the Le Crueset equivalent so I think you got a very good bargain0
