Do you have a garage or a shed? I put all my spares in big plastic boxes (wilkos are great for them) and then store them in the garage. They are waterproof and airtight so they stay clean, then a quick rinse before I use them and we are ready to go.
Ginnyknit - sending lots of hugs, and hopefully your OH will recover quickly.
TaurusGB - try not to get frustrated with yourself, its great that they have all learnt to fend for themselves a bit more, so why not try meal planning for the week with all of you? I let my boys have a rummage through the cookbooks or the site which lets you type in the ingrediants you have and then gives you some recipes? It takes some of the pressure off you then too
Sammykaye - do YOU want to have a crack at the job? If you do why dont you fill in the application and send it off? There are so many people applying for jobs nowdays that you may not even get an interview but you know you just might - and it would do your self confidence the world of goodYou can back out at any point until you accept the job, but given time Owen may see the sense in your actions and it would get you out and about and meeting other people.
Prepareathome - you go for it girl, and do what feels good to you. Dont let anyone else tell you you cant do it or feel that people look at you in a demaening way, because more often than not they probably admire you for getting up and doing it in the first place. I bought a treadmill and just built up the amount of exercise every day until I felt comfortable, some days it was hard but I kept saying to myself something everyday is good.
Kimsmum - hope you feel better soon, have you asked for a referal to a dietician? Osteoarthritis can be inflamed by diet and you can help some of the symptoms by looking at what you eat, I have osteoarthritis in both knees so know how debilitating it can be.
There are none near me that are during the day which is a shame really because its something I would have loved to have done. All of them are in the evening which seems a little short sighted and perhaps the reason why they have a reputation for only being for the older generation.
The wind was absolutely howling here last night, for the first time ever I was worried that we might lose bits of the house but thankfully not! More my fear than anything else I think as the house has been here for 300 years, but it was indicative that the weather was going to be really bad last night because the chooks and ducks had put themselves to bed by 4!!
A day baking today for me, have promised the boys honey and walnut loaf and oatmeal/apple biscuits later, so cottage pie for tea as that uses up some of the veg we have.
Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do with pate that needs eating up? I dont think you can freeze it, so any suggestions would be great
Hugs to all that need them x
Jamanda - just a thought why not lift the kick boards under your kitchen cupboards and store under thier after all its wasted space and they would be out of sight but accessable when you need them
Kinsmum &Kimitatsu - I feel for you as i also have osteoarthritis in knee as well other joint problems and i know how difficult ,painful and long the days can be.
The Windy is the same here today it was a bit scary:eek: doing the school run this morning as i have to drive on open roads (No wind Breaks) Ah well best go and do some things from my To Do list.
Sausages for Tea but not sure with what yet anyone got any suggestions :idea:different to the usual mash and beans/Mash/veg and onion gravy."I have not failed. I've just found 10, 000 ways that won't work." Thomas A. Edison0 -

Thanks, but I haven't got kitchen cupboards. Kitchen is farmhouse style with dressers, table etc. Dresser cupboards house food in one set and crockery and ....... am going to have a re-think about the other. Was about to put baking stuff (i.e. essences, bun cases etc, grandkids cookie cutters etc.)
I wonder if we eat very quickly, could we make room for the baking stuff in the other food ones :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I think, now I've put my mind to it, I can gain at least one small cupboard.
You see, it is all the fault of you lot - stock up on tins, perishables, soap powder, etc. etc. Now I need a bigger house0 -
I have been reading all the sorrowful posts the last few days. I read and I hurt but just didn't know what to say. In times of utter sorrow writing on a forum just seems so false and words never read how you intend them. Sorry for being so quiet and not writing down my support, I was with you all in heart as you were typing though.
Me too fuddle. I have my own story but will just say I have not seen my Father for 42 years and only seen my mother three times (twice at a distance)in 30 years.
(((hugs))) to all that need them.0 -
Just been to Mr A and was hoping for cream to make butter but sadly all the whoopsies were over priced or on their way out
Am now at the stage of taking meals into hospital for OH as the food is terrible in there. Oh is slowly recovering and now its 'can you just bring me this'
Weather still terrible here but at least its not snowing, thats the only up side as I cannot cope well with snow. Kept running to answer the door at 9 am and realised it was next door fixing something :rotfl:
Hugs to all in need catch you laterClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -

Slip the skins off, cut them up into little meatballs and cook with onions then stir in a tin of chopped tomatoes and a splash of cider to make a sauce and serve with pasta. I use penne and put the lot in a baking dish, tuck in left over broccoli florets cover the lot with a cheese sauce and bake like a lasagne. NomnomnomIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Great idea - thanks. I have loads of whoopsied sausages in my freezer and was wondering what I could do with them that's different. I also have a portion of rich tomato sauce so could add the "meatballs" to that and serve with pasta.
I often do mine with cauliflower cheese and some HM bread.
Had to go to Mr M to get DD some lemonade for rehydration purposes and ended up spending £20, however i did buy 2 x 18 packs of loo roll (on offer at £2.99), 2 x6 packs of half price McCoys crisps, some whoopsied stewing steak, shepherds pie ready meals (for days when I'm late home - tho i do have HM ready meals too), salmon and cocktail sausages (for kids lunches) - so good deals on the whoopsies so early in the day, all around half price. Also bought half price ketchup and half price part baked rolls. So a good haul, I reckon, but it isn't doing much for the freezer challenge!I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Am reading and running - have visited harirdresser and am very happy - they were lovely, it was definitely easier having taken DD in when she had cut her own, as it gave us a common ground as it were.
Tenth wedding anniversary - where does the time go and OH has for the first time ever left a card before work!!!
Sammy - as kimatsu and others have said - go for it then worry about the practicalities etc later. Bearing in mind that Owen has these sort of big moods then calms down it would be a shame to let an opportunity slide away.
Ginny -sending you hugs and hope you are getting on ok, dragging backwards and forwards taking in food etc is blinking hard work!!
Jamanda - if you dont have a garage or shed could you possibly pick up one of those cheap plastic things that people store garden furniture in the garden? My dad has one he stores car stuff in and only cost £25 I seem to think.
We have an old parachute box that was my grandads, weighs a tonne, filled with all kids sand and water play toys all outside in garden - last night it got blown across the garden!!!! cant lift it alone so its staying there till OH gets in from work to help move it!!:)
Take care in the wind and if you dont need to venture out - dont!! Mardatha - hope you are wrapped up with a duvet and a book!!0 -
I need to tell you (because you are the only ones who will understand how excited I am) - I've had a brainwave.
Some [STRIKE]lateral[/STRIKE] vertical thinking later --- there is room on the top of the dressers for some fair sized baskets. This would keep the look of the kitchen, look tidy and I could [STRIKE]stuff [/STRIKE] store a lot of stuff that isn't used everyday.
Right, when I get home I'm going to measure (very carefully) and try to source some good sturdy baskets.
Thanks for everyone's help. Got me thinking.

Just a suggestion, keep an eye out for whoopsied beer and cider for the kitchen store cupboard, I often pick up a can or two that had 'come adrift' from it's four-pack and been reduced...Especially the cider and real ales make a really nice change from tomatoes for a sausage casserole, or a stew.
Last week I got 3 cans of Stella (which DS ironed out) and a can of real ale that had all been attached together and reduced to £2!!!

We do have a large brick built shed (think it used to be 3 coal houses knocked into one). We also have a wooden shed and one of the green plastic type jobs. Green one is full of plant pots and seed trays, wooden one is full of stored onions, DH bike, a reel of barbed wire (no... no idea) and other assorted carp that would appear to be essential to DH life.
The nice brick one (in which I would like to put a chest freezer for storing garden stuff) is sacrosanct. If it came to a choice between me and his shed, I'm not convinced I would win :rotfl: He has a stove in there and I've threatened once or twice to buy him a camp bed and leave him in it permanently.0
