    I have wipe rage

    jan 2011 17p a pack value baby wipes-tesco same
    6months ago 26p in both
    month ago 35p in both
    today in sainsburys 46p
just checked my supermarket asda and tesco also 46p

why they all fixed the same?

people cant downshift lower than value

Well, there is one downshift lower than value and that's not to use disposable wipes. You could make some wipes from old t-shirts or sheets, fill a small bottle with a smidge of baby bath and water, then spray and wipe.

I'm not saying that's what you should do (you have so much on your plate that paying a bit extra for the convenience of wipes seems like decent economy to me!), just that it is another option.

There's a lot of things we just don't buy here now. Paper towels, cotton balls, tissues. Hubby has reusable hankies (we got rather a lot, unopened, from a charity shop, I'd guess they were a repeated unwanted gift), I use old facecloths as household wipes and just wash them and I replaced cotton balls with some small squares made from an old t-shirt and simply edged, they also get washed.

I didn't get on with the "family cloth" idea. And reusable sanitary wear was just too darned uncomfy.

When I find there's something else we can do without and that our lives are still as good without, it feels like a bit of a win.

  • Warning: sefl-indulgent moan coming up......
I am so fed up: I have now been confined to quarters for about 36 hours trotting to the loo every hour or so:( I've no idea what it is, but it is really getting to me.
The worst bit is that I had lots of plans for sorting etc as well as taking mum out for trips, but it's ended up with poor OH having to entertain mum so I'm feeling guilty about that too.
I know folk are going through stuff so much worse, but I'm just completely fed up. Oh well, at least I've picked a couple of truely foul days of weather to be stuck indoors:o How is it up the hill Mardatha, it's pretty grim down here.

  • Oh Margaret that is *awful*. I don't have any constructive advice but just wanted to say how sorry I am. Is he in a union? I don't know if they could be any help.
    Take care.

Morning all - hugs where needed - and Taurus, hope you're ok.....

DH is back at work today (the downside of being self employed - you don't go, you don't get paid!!:p Although he has a job offer for a salaried role to cover maternity leave - we just need to see how much they're offering to pay to see if it's worth the hassle) 3 children and myself are now up - the 5yo is in bed, so I shall wake him in a mo (having not woken myself until gone 10am I can't exactly moan - we've all had a cold which has gone to our chests and left us feeling very tired as a result) Best start getting them a bit better organised for school next week, though!

House looks like a whirlwind has gone through it, randomly dropping things everywhere. Most presents are in bedrooms - but not away from there. DD had 38 books to find room for on her already overflowing bookshelves! I went through toys before Xmas, so I don;t think I can clear any more just yet.

Have been very lucky and as well as my lovely Kenwood (not used yet - but I have my eye on some accessories for it for my birthday in March!!) I am well stocked on face products and 'posh' smellies for probably a year. We nipped into town yesterday (to change the size of one of DH's pressies) and walked through Debenhams where a Clinique giftboxed set was reduced from £79 to £38. I had a £15 giftcard left from the summer on me, so we bought it, so it cost our bank account £23 and is put by for my birthday :D I've got some lovely new slippers (purple ones - yeay!) too - snuggly, cosy feet :D:D I also had 2 lovely cookbooks from my mum.

We went to the local panto on Boxing Day - took drinks and sweeties from home, so didn't spend anything there :D:D

We have masses of turkey left over (I only bought a small one, but we have so many veggies with Xmas dinner that we eat very little meat) We've had bubble and squak a couple of times and DH has had hot turkey baguettes. I shall strip the carcass today and freeze some meat for future roast dinners and turn the scrappier pieces into a curry

January is a month of using up foodstores for us. Whether it be because of any possible bad weather or whatever - we have a large supply of cupboard items and overflowing freezers, so I need to reduce the amount of food held to ensure it's rotated properly, plus it will give us a cheaper month so we can massively attack the (interest free) amount on the CC from the bathroom refits - I want to get that paid off by April (it will be, too)

Weather here is very mild - am even contemplating hanging washing out to dry (lots to do as I haven't done any over Xmas)

Right - off to wake the 5yo!!!

ETA - Margaret, get him to register with jobcentre for benefits asap. People on other boards on here will have advice about things, too. ((hugs)) x

  • OH back at work today too, the downside (one of many) of working in retail! so me and the kids are having a much needed ordinary day. Might do some painting later with some of DD's new art stuff. She was opening parcels til midday on Boxing Day! No FC hadn't got carried away - she only had 15 parcels to open and lots of those were things like a big pad of coloured papers, a pack of crayons and a set of stencils, but everything had to be thoroughly examined and played with before she'd move on to the next parcel.

Did a bit of shopping in the Amazon Boxing day deals and went to the big Lakeland on the way home from my parents' yesterday and when I got back and updated the list I have realised that I'm over half way there to next year's birthday list and I'm about to start on Christmas again! My mum couldn't believe it when I told her that I'd only spent about £150 on all the presents for everyone this Christmas as they were all so lovely! She then realised how I do it when I set her and OH up to get my birthday pressie (and go halves) as I'd just got an email about the mad about cards Jan Sale offering a letterpress printing kit and an epic die cutter for £60, which she then got another 10% off and postage for only 99p instead of a fiver because of bits I'd found her. This is over £100 off rrp and in about 3 weeks I am going to be one happy little crafter. It will also do the wedding invites for later in the year without having to buy anything apart from the card to print them on! - double bonus!

Margaret just wanted to say sorry about you situation.

Will pop back later as I am at work at the moment hope everyone is good and Hope Taurus is doing okay if she is reading this.

I am going to do the meal planning this year, as I would like to save more money as I would love to clear all debts and stay at home.

  • Margaret: (((hugs))) for you going through such a worrying time.
Weather here is also very mild, with a bit of a wind - no, used up all the sprouts - we have snowdrops and cowslips out in the garden!
    Normal people worry me.

Good grief, Margaret, that's horrendous. Why on earth wasn't any warning given?? I am so sorry to hear this. Definitely get yourself onto the employment forums to get advice on the way forward.

[STRIKE]It's funny, it's the little things that break the camels back; and this camel is broken. All my life I've put other's first, but who has spent Christmas and will spend NYE alone, whilst people like my ex have family around him, including my dd?

Me. And I'm sorry to be so blue, as I know there are worse things and tomorrow is another day...

Just something my dd said in the phone call to me.
    [/STRIKE] Just ignore me...:o

And I'm worried about TaurusGB, she is so quiet, I hope all is well.

    Big hugs (((Byatt)))
