So sorry to hear your bad news, what a way to find out.
If your hubbie is in a union I think a lot of them do a benevolent fund to help, might be worth an ask.
Hoping that another, better door opens for you soon.0 -
also to say we know we are blessed and have more than a lot of folk we hear about. We know this kind of thing happens a lot. So glad we have great advice on here and it really helps to "chat" to friends here.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Margaret
I really feel for you and hope you soon have some better news.
It reminded me of a big employer round here, lives in a big house and has several properties abroad. He went bust, lots of people out of work, other companies lost money that were owed from his company, employees wages were not paid. So how come less than three years later, he is back in business, still has the property abroad and is having his huge house extended? It just seems so wrong to me, that the wages he did not pay to his then workers were left owing but yet he can still have his comforts and luxuries. How can he sleep at night?
Anyway, sorry about the rant, but some things just make my blood boil!!0 -
Just had a run in with another driver on my way to cat sit. It's up a one car road, no lights of any kind. Anyway, I had gone about a third of the way up when met a car coming down . I knew I was nearest to exit so started to reverse (not my best skill)...his main beam was on the whole time and I was having difficulty seeing and taking too long for him I guess, so he starts reversing (he later said it was 3/4 mile, but it wasn't)...and I didn't think he was making a much better job than me. Anyway, when we pulled aside each other he said, "if you can't reverse you shouldn't drive!" I apologised, and he just carried on in the same way, saying my lights were distracting him and what did he think he was flashing his for...I then said about his main beam and he looked a bit sheepish, but his parting shot was "learn to reverse!!"
It's stupid how something so small just upsets me. He was of course years younger than me, and I felt like a naughty child. As luck would have it, on my way home I met him on the road again, but fortunately there was a space to pull into, but he didn't even acknowledge it.
I have 4 more visits so will be on tenter hooks.:o
I have a skoda and it's really difficult to see out the back window. I was using my wing mirrors. It's really hard to reverse in the dark!! Sigh.0 -
You know what Margaret out of the crap comes something and someone decent. Hopefully, things might turn around for you and DH so that he continues with employment although with a different company. The receivers who are appointed to sort out the financial situation will be in contact with DH with regard to unpaid wages - it will take some time for that to come through though, months!
Lavenderbees - what can I say but I know exactly what you mean about rather being on your own. I think we all have this impression of Christmas as being happy, loving, full of joy and laughter and actually it is far from it for allot of people. It can be a difficult time of the year. The Samaritans have some of their highest call volumes during the Christmas period you know!! We all forget about the people who are on their own at Christmas!
I wonder what next year will bring!I cannot say honestly that I am thrilled at the prospect of more people on the dole and crime going through the roof! There is a direct correlation between high unemployment and criminal acts.
To be honest apart from the utility and food bills there is not a huge amount of cash we have to lash out so our aim is to squirrel away funds in a building society account. DH thinks we should shove it under the mattress just in case worst case dooms scenario hits!! Frankly, I do not see much improving until at least 2014 or even 2015!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

A personal bankruptcy is when the person's house is in jeopardy. With a business bankruptcy, only assets in the business name can be included in the bankruptcy.
I know it doesn't seem fair when you think about it on the larger, wealthier scale but when you think in terms of a small business running into trouble, I guess we would hate for them to lose their personal family home because of it. I agree totally though, some of the rules within business bankruptcies are ludicrous in my opinion.
Byatt, what a total pig that driver was. I am terrible in the dark driving forward so I feel for you having to go back, under pressure!0 -
Byatt take yourself to the mirror and practice the worst venomous swearing phrase you can think of,then lift your little finger and wave it up and down, the next time this arrogant result of unwed parents shouts at you, shout back, but keep your windows up and your doors locked!0

hello everyone - I tend to read everyday but hardly post.
In reference to value toilet roll gailey it has worked out cheaper for us to buy the dixcel 6 pack from home bargains at £1.29. It lasts longer than the 8 pack of value and its nicer. Cool trader do a similar pack by a differnt company for the same price. Our cool trader also has the fancy cheese in the red pack (maybe cathedral city?) for £1.79 a pack - rang my friend and told her she had me buy her 4 packs and i still dont know what its called!Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -

This use to happen to me daily when I lived in a "rougher" part of town. My road was quite long and it was always a fella who would start driving down the (wide enough for one car only) road when I would be three quarters down it. Luckily I lived three quarters down the road so I would switch the car off and go in the house and put the kettle on :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: The swearing never bothered me or the dog I had at the time :rotfl::rotfl: infact it became the streets biggest past time when everyone would come out for a gossip and a giggle :rotfl::rotfl:
knickers to them I pay my road tax too
