VJ's mum....haven't heard that expression in many years, it was a favourite of my late father's...glad to see its still going strong.

    Marie

It was one of my mum's - along with "won't get the baby a new bonnet" :)

Well, the teenage invasion has been and gone and there is still food in the house!:rotfl: Something must be wrong. MInd you, there was a mountain of it. I call them "the Vashta Nerada" - Dr who fans will know, but for the unintiated they are a swarm of creatures who strip their victims to the bone - likewise, the teenagers come in and swarm over plates stripping them till there are a few crumbs left!:rotfl:Still, there was only one boy so that might explain it (he was a stunner - my DD has a bit of a crush and i can see why. Is that wrong :o? I am possibly just about old enough to be his grandmother  Still, beauty is beauty and there to be appreciated!:D)

So we have a fridge full of trifle, and a tin of cake, chicken bones ready to be stock, a fully plated up roast dinner in the freezer along with a whole vegetable lasagne. Sigh, I keep trying to run the freezers down, but then i keep FREEZING STUFF!

Still, it's random bits of curry from the freezer tonight so that will help and freezer surprise all week for tea - it might clear half a shelf :p

I have a day with nothing booked in it today. After running round like a BAF yesterday, I need it. Am going to put up crimbo cards and the remainder of the decs - I might even think about buying and prepping veg for Christmas dinner. Ooh and i have to feed the cakes (one for dad's birthday) with brandy. OH has to go and buy my Birthday pressie ( my big pressie is going to be sorted January / february time when we have replenished the coffers a little) so i've given him a list

Talking of board games, on a slightly different note my DS had some maths problems to deal with the other day which were based around playing cards - it was a probability thing. He didn't even know the suits, that some were red and some black and that there were kings, queens etc. i think we will be getting the cards out over the festivities and playing a few games of rummy. The kids like monopoly, but OH cheats (play cheating but it winds the kids up) and then DS loses patience quickly.

Last year when we were having a meal in a quiet pub, I taught DS to play darts. He even got one in the board occasionally :rotfl:

Ah well, tummy's rumbling - I might have some trifle! :D

    Have a good day, all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Panicking like hell over my porridge now ! LOL and its snowing again, has been since 8am and is still going. SEND RED CROSS PORRIDGE PARCELS please!
  • Board games are so retro/old school :D so I have been told :rotfl::rotfl:

As a family we always take two packs of UNO cards and normal cards with us when we go out. These have been a god send over the years especially when delayed at airports, waiting for trains, ferries etc. Having three boys with us at all times it was an easy game for all their ages.

DSS2 struggled with numbers when he was little so I bought a bingo game from the charity shop and a load of cheap gift things. The winner got a prize out of the bucket. Let it be said he only lost one game and the teacher was amazed at how quick he caught up :rotfl::rotfl:

Boxing day last year we played Pictionary and DGD wanted a go (she was 4 at the time) after 10 minutes of doing the most detailed picture I have ever seen her draw I had to say "I give in what is it?" she replied "I don't know Nanny" and it had the whole house in hysterics for ages!!

I think they are great if done as a treat or they get fed up, we get fed up and it becomes a chore. We have wii fit nights a couple of times a year with friends and family but that also is done on a treat/party time basis.

Mardatha, I know there's some serious concern in there somewhere but SO FUNNY! You do make me laugh.

I feel really stupid now. My mil's partner has just dropped off the rug and headed straight into the kitchen to look at the boiler. The reason why the heating is not working properly is because, in my frugal ways and trying to save money, I thought in my wisdom I would turn the dials down. I didn't know what those dials meant but thought 6? I am frugal, I don't need 6, lets try 3.

For two years we have struggled in the winter with this house.... all because I'm a thick, stupid, tight coo and messed with something I shouldn't have. The rads are bouncing now *blush, blush and more blush. DH is going to throttle me because it now makes him look like a complete fool for not checking.

He brought tins too. Some chilli and frey bentos chicken curry pies

No, I get them to write a script which says 100 x Felimazole plus 1 repeat, this is about 5 month's worth of tabs.

I scan this and send it to Petmedsonline via an email and then I can go onto the site and place my order for 2 x 100 pots, which are sent in one package, saving a second posting (I used to buy one pot and they held onto the repeat bit until I ordered again - then I put my brain in gear and asked if the repeat could be sent out right away and they were happy to do this).

Getting the repeat and making the script out to the max you can buy is the the way to maximise your £10 script fee, which I think is outrageous too!

Last week I would have given the same advice. This week I am waiting with baited breath for phone call from vet';s to see if we can get our youngest dog back today. She's been in since Thurs on a drip after getting hold of previcox tablets which were posted through the letterbox(strong painkillers for older dog). We have a wire box to catch mail but postie had pushed extra hard to get the package through and it opened the wire door. Luckily DH came home within at most 2 hours but is still a worrying time. I know that the chances of this happening are so remote but it has been such a shock and I want to warn others so that they don't have to go through this :(. This was my first time of ordering the prescription tablets via internet although have got flexadin for a couple of years. It certainly is a saving if you don't have a chewy rascal like ours.

DD (age 6) and I are old-school and proud, we love our board games, and we're moving house soon and need to find a new place for them....currently they take up most of the understairs cupboard but we're moving to a bungalow!
  • I too love my oats ( what did I hear someone snigger, now why would you do that, are you implying I don't mean oats at all, now what could you mean, cannot think, but then I am such an innocent soul):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: anyway as I was saying I love oats, mornings without porridge doesn't bare thinking about so am going to have a good look round when out today at price of said oats. Am going to a small town which is nearer to me, being as we live on the border of the city than most of the said city - does that make sense????? Anyway this little town ( the residents there will be up in arms yelling we are not such a small town) has the only yarn shop for many a mile so as I still need yarn for DGD12 Bella Mitts and have but a week to knit them I am going there when hubs is finished work, fed and watered, as tried to find the correct colour yarn on-line, but photos are never exact and these must be exact ( thankfully the hat she wanted was in black yarn and black yarn is black yarn where ever you buy it - colourwise that is). Oh reminds me she also mentioned she wanted Alices mitts, must check what colour they are, I have forgotten. She is an only child who gets everything, and I mean everything she wants so apart from me actually making her something that cannot be bought its always a battle to find something her mum ( my daughter) hasn't bought for her. My darling daughter has grown up to be a woman who believes you show how much you love someone by how much you buy them, where she got this from we cannot fathom as certainly wasn't from us, yes they got what they wanted for birthdays and Christmas but not OTT and within our budget, and not lots of very expensive items. I think its guilt she went back to work when DGD was 2 and also she actually didn't want children but had one for her husbands sake, and although now she adores her, as now DGD is into shopping and clothes they are closer than they have ever been, I think the excessive spending is also her way of letting her daughter know she does love her and its spilt over to everyone else now, not that she spends OTT on everyone else, but she expects expensive presents from others and if they are not then you cannot love her that much. Still got to buy said daughter her present and hand knitted items are a no go with her. So the yarn shop is on the high street but beside it is a shopping centre so will pop in the food shops there and see how much the dear old porridge is, my stock is low only have about 8kg in. There is a health food shop there, which is a lot cheaper than our health food shop in the village so will have a mooch in there as well - not that I expect to have much money left after yarn shop as once in there and I see all that yarn its very hard to come out with just what I wanted to buy hence me only going there about once a year and buying yarn on-line as not so tempting. Just had an awful thought I hope the shop is still there, if not Hobbycraft is only other place that sells yarn and its not cheap plus add in price of petrol to get there. I must check and see if any yarn shops in Chester as might be worth a run down there one day if there are. I know there are a couple in Manchester but they are dear and the cost of parking is beyond the pale as it is in the city. Oh well will see what happens, I have £40 for my yarn shop trip not a penny more and that would include parking costs.

Do you think big brother is watching us and reading the forum and putting up the price of things we use to bulk out or eat a lot of, mmmmmm been reading to many thrillers I think......but you never know :(

I better shut up now rambling on and on, must try and get out of this better and shower been awake since just after 8am.

Oh Softstuff I made another 60 of those mincemeat melts as I call them as the dough just melts in the mouth, should I hope keep hubby going for a few days. Sorry correct name gone from mind, and want to make some of those bicuits today - note to self you need more cake tins as no where to put what you have baked as ones I have are filled with scones and cake. I plan to freeze some of the melts today ( they were still warm when I came up last night and to achy to go back down later)

Right will shut up and go away and stop annoying everyone

    Stay warm and safe folks

You could always order a few other things if money allows, as the prices of non prescription items are usually so much cheaper where you buy the prescription meds that even with postage it still works out far cheaper - in November our youngest dog needed antibiotics and so I did buy a weeks supply from our vet, but he wanted her on them for 3 weeks so got the prescription from him ( not amused) and charged me £5 but as he was selling each tablet at £3.50 each and on-line place was selling them at 10p each it was worth it, but as I was ordering and just in case they arrived when i was out I ordered a few other things like their toothpaste, plaque-off ( far, far cheaper than in the shops) and some other bits so postman had to hand me the parcel, so I saved money and had piece of mind they could not get at the tablets - if I remember rightly everything I bought still came to less than I would have paid the vet for the other two weeks supply of antibiotics. My dogs good and since they outgrew puppy stage have never chewed anything they shouldn't but still do not want to put temptation in their way.

Hi PAH - that's a good point re ordering other stuff - unfortunately I did that but they posted the prescription tablets separately for some reason - maybe they processed them separately IYKWIM. The other stuff arrived today and yes the postie had to hand it over:(. He's been really concerned since he knew and asks every day for little doggie.
It is a saving buying stuff online though.
