Use the link Mrs Chip provided. Cups are volume measurements not weight measurements. Don't combine weights and volumes in the same recipe unless the recipe does. eg one cup of sugar does not weigh the same as one cup of flour it just occupies the same space, ie volume."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Panicking like hell over my porridge now ! LOL and its snowing again, has been since 8am and is still going. SEND RED CROSS PORRIDGE PARCELS please!
Bought 5kg of Oats in Morrisons today - 89p a kilo. Says Quick'n'easy but they look the same as the Tesco Value ones. I don't remember if that's a good price but it was good enough and now I have a few months worth of oats. The children have started to enjoy porridge for breakfast and I hated having to resort to the Instant Oat Cereal stuff (though Aldi's is good) as it's not such slow release energy because of all the processing.
OMG  how much shopping do people need. How many packets of junk food can one family get through? Trolleys piled high with utter carp, bills coming well over a hundred! I bought bread, milk, oats, fruit and veg and a couple of cupboard bits. Apart from cheese and more veg we will need nothing else for Christmas, I refuse to buy a shop full of junk food (especially when my homemade junk is much nicer!) just because it's Christmas...
DH isn't too pleased, he likes junk... though he did agree people go very OTT and probably throw half of it away...
ETA- Caught up now, so I'm not the only one then?! No good offers in Morrisons unless you want packs of mince pies (6 for over a £1?!) or pringles (yuck!) or stacks of booze...
Charity shop bargains... jigsaw for DH, jigsaw for DS2, books for DD, book and two tops for me and TUB OF LEGO! Total cost £4... love that place (little independant one my SIL found), some days there's nothing, some days it's great.
Fuddle - don't feel too bad, I've done similarly stupid things in my quest to be frugal. Blame your DHthen have a read around on how the system actually works, there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes in our houses... I spent an hour online the other day reading about the best ways to use your thermostat and rad stats and have heating set and how to balance the system. I'm not going to claim to have understood most of it but a tleast I tried and DH has promised to balance the system and bleed any rads (he doesn't trust me!)

gailey: You can make jam in the microwave. Really easy and not so much sticky washing up!

Ragz that is a fabulous haul the lego alone would have cost the earth :T
I hope all the poorly pets get better soon. It is heartbreaking when they are sick and bank breaking toI know vets have to make a living but the prices are so steep it makes you wonder how many people have stopped taking their pets as they can't afford it. Having had my moggies neutered and injected it has left a dint of £458
:eek: We had a poorly kitten last year and that cost £800 :eek:
jam tarts and lime meringues in the oven and ginger people (started as bears lol) on the side cooling down, I love meringues but they just take so blinkin long to make and they get wolfed down in seconds. DH is still tinkering around with the porch freezing himself to death outside whilst I am sweating cobs in the kitchen. It reminds me of the weather man and women lol.
Kids are playing give me a clue on what you have got me for Christmas, how big? is it heavy? grrrrrr I wouldn't mind but they have been going on since 11am and the eldest is 24, she should know better but is the worst of the lot. DGD says she will be happy whatever Santa brings so most definitely takes after her Dads side of the family.
Still got to do the food shop for crimbo but only need a few bits and bobs. Some fresh veg and meat, and if the home made wine is awful when we try it tonight we will be rushing to the booze isle :rotfl:
The house looks like a bomb has exploded and the conservatory is still filled to the brim with Feebay stuff and we can't even get to the table. Will take me all of this week to sort it out.
DH is working til the very last minute as his Mega beast of a boss is having next week off and for those who have had a "boss from the pits of hell" before you will know it is a waste of sanity having the same weeks off :rotfl::rotfl: I used to kick myself if my boss swapped his weeks after I spent many an hour carefully not coinciding. If we both had five weeks hols a year that was 10 weeks I didn't have to see him not including sick days :rotfl::rotfl:
Just cleaned the kitchen now to start on teawhoopsied chicken 20p already cooked and two tins of sweet and sour Mr ts value and some rice. I love quick cook dinners :j:j
Off before I waffle some more

I got some bargains today, called in at the garage sp@r shop for a gas top up and they had baskets of food and other stuff all at 50p so I got some graham cereal stuff for ds, 2 large boxes of scottish porridge, 2 @lpen that had £1.89 printed on them, a crispie cake and some fudge chocolate cakes and it came to £3.50 for two carrier bags. I asked why they were cheap since most were in date and was told they had bought another 20 shops and had to get rid of anything that sp@r did not normally sell. A lot of it was junk so I just got what I use.
Also got a 20kg bag of lovely big onions at the asian supermarket for £2.99 and will make some onion rings for the freezer and maybe some onion yorkshire pud batter to freeze. I will dry some too. I remembered to get 25kg potatoes to in case they sell out next week before I could get some as they would not have another delivery before the end of the holiday.
Town was crazy in places so got double of some things so I can avoid the shops next week.0 -
finished all shopping for 2011 now :j:j:j so pleased that I will not have to venture back to any shops until next year....plus one of my 2012 frugal decisions is to not use supermarkets for anything if possible.... suma for basics, local farms for fruit and veg and cheap shops for toiletries....I will get a delivery from supermarket for milk for the rest of the tribe (value uht is all I buy) but other than that...never again!!!!
Woohoo!!!:D:D:D

Well I did my bit today to help the economy, I went shopping, I bought a bottle of vinegar in the supermarket & a beautiful polyanthus to put in a kettle.

Oh Softstuff I made another 60 of those mincemeat melts as I call them as the dough just melts in the mouth, should I hope keep hubby going for a few days.
60? :eek::rotfl:
Hubby wolfs them down like they're grapes too. Funny how he's 65kg with good cholesterol. I joke with him it's why I married him, I'd kill off other men with slower metabolisms.
Sorry I haven't gotten around to the spiced muffins yet Kimsmum. I wrote a recipe as an idea for them, but want to try it first obviously. If all goes well I'll bake them tonight (my tonight, so your Sunday morning) and post the recipe if all goes well.
Things have not gone entirely to plan. I discovered yesterday that it's a bit of a nightmare to cook and dismember a turkey when you're feeling queasy. Managed to reserve the drippings and remove any scrap of meat, but I'm afraid I ditched the bones as I couldn't face the smell of them boiling for stock and didn't have the space in the freezer.
On the plus side I got a huge bag of reduced apples and stewed apples are lovely if you feel a little off colour stomach wise.
Today is hubbys works Christmas party, I just hope I can do the expensive buffet justice!
Glad your dog's ok WMF. Hoping Taurus is doing well and will be back with us soon.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
