Sammy,
well done with all that you've managed to achieve so far.. but please be aware that there's a slight fire risk with rice bags in bed, you *must* either spritz the bag with water before heating or put a cup of cold water in the microwave with the bag when you heat it up. the risk is that the rice eventually, with repeated sessions in the microwave, dries out.. and starts smouldering, and if its doing that without you knowing it and you put it in bed, you can wind up with a nasty fire.
frankly you've had enough bad stuff happen to you guys without adding anything more!!

OK Something like... and fill in some names/dates/benefits with relevent.
Dear X
I am writing to you regarding the situation that my family find themselves in.
I work part time, two days a week, so that my partner and I can share the care of our 18 month old son.
On the XXX my partner XXX aged XXX woke up to discover that he had lost the sight in both eyes, due to complications from an old injury. Following medical treatment and after several days in hospital he partially regained some site in one eye, but as a result has lost his job, as he is now unable to work. We have applied for Disability Living allowance(?) for him on (date) but to date this has not been awarded to us.
We were in reciept of tax credits as a family, and notified them our new position on (date), and as a resuly they withdrew the payments to us with immediate effect, telling us that they will recalulate and let us know.
We have now been waiting for XXX weeks for this to be sorted out, we have had no other income in this period except the £?? from my two day a week job. As I am sure you can imagine this has left us in a desperate position.
I am trying very hard to deal with all of the situations I am faced with, parenting a small baby, supporting my recently disabled partner, trying to put a meal on the table each day and pay my bills.
Dealing with the DLA (?) and the Tax Credits department is like hitting your head against a wall. They both have the situation "in the system" and I feel that the system has failed me and my family in our most acute hour of need. This inability for two departments to work together has left my family in DESPERATE conditions at a time we are least able to cope.
I am writing to you to let you know of my situation, and to draw to your attention to this matter, and ask you please if there is any assistance you can offer me.
Yours sincerely.

Something along these lines, fill in the dates and relevant benefits applied for - if I have misunderstood or missed something you think is important out fill that in.
Do you know if your MP is Labour or Tory...cos it helps if you can throw in a few political soundbites....

And do you know you can contact your MP online - and find out all about them (including who they are in the first place)
