Should you pay for 'After School Club' when Teachers are on strike

I'm talking about the staff at the after school club, not the teachers.Caroline73 wrote: »If the school was closed due to the snow the staff would still be entitled to be paid but people on strike won't be paid.0 -
It may be that after school club will be open. And therefore that your son could go if you wish to take him there, even though he is not in school. In these circumstances you would be expected to pay.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. A lot of After School Clubs in schools are not run by the school but a commitee, usually non profit making. Therefore the commitee would make the decisions regarding fees, the school has no say in this. The clubs tend to pay rent to the school for the use of a room/s.
Supply staff cannot be employed to cover for striking staff.

If it's one class out of the school, why aren't they distributing the children into other classes for the day?
If the after school club isn't available then I'd definitely quibble about paying. If the club organisers are officially linked to the school then I think there are grounds to complain about paying regardless.
That would seem sensible, but on the other hand, what would be the point of the teacher striking if his/her work (ie the children he/she teaches) is going to be covered by someone else.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I believe heads aren't allowed to ask other teachers in the school to cover for the striking member of staff.0

correct, you may also find that although the other teachers are working they wouldn't want to undermine their colleagues who have taken strike action.'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -

How are the children meant to be educated, that is what schools are for, not childcare. Are you seriously proposing sending half a dozen year 1s or reception children (for example) to all the other year groups, not sure they could just get on with what everyone else is doing whilst the teachers carried on as normal.0 -
The 'After school club is a service is it not? if you dont recieve that service, then they cannot charge you for it!
check first if the after school club is still available - if not then let them know you will NOT be paying for it!0 -
Our breakfast and afterschool club is carrying over any monies paid for Wednesday, however our entire school is shut. Also its in the contract that payment can be carried over to a different day, if the parent give 24hrs notice that they don't need the service so I suppose that where it comes from.Sorting my life out one day at a time0

As i understand it ( which I hadn't heard before) teachers will not cover a striking teacher's class0
