what's in it for Yodel?

  • I thought Yodal (were they not formerly White Arrow etc et al??) were moving to the cheaper 'employment agency' model of hiring drivers. Tesco's used to do it with their HGV drivers. I assume to avoid any commitment and holiday pay costs?

Well they need to be more careful and use drivers who do not routinely falsify non-delivery reports... presumably to avoid contractual problems when they extend 24-hour delivery promises by 144 hours.

The dont pay their people enough and therefore dont recruit decent people.
We love our free delivery deals but someone needs to pay for it somewhere.

We had a tumble dryer delivered the other day and we were drop number 1 of 43 they were doing that day. Thats a long old day.

Can I suggest anyone who has been messed around by yodel vote for them in the daily mail wooden spoon awards for poor customer service?

Report the companies you are expecting next day service from, to trading standards. Make sure you mention yodel is the carrier. If enough people do that, they'll soon stop using yodel.

How does the number of complaints about the courier to TS encourage a retailer to stop using them? Surely the more complaints the retailer receive directly about the service the more likely they will stop using them...

Because the complaint is, strictly speaking, about the retailer. TS are potentially interested in the courier as an aside, but their take is that the retailer has not fulfilled their delivery promise.

I'm finding it hard to figure out what yodel is up to and how it benefits them.

They aren't delivering parcels (a week later and still awaiting a "next day" delivery) so surely the backlog is building and will only get worse running up to Christmas. How does having a huge backlog benefit them? Will they dispose of the parcels? Return them to Sports Direct and others saying they tried to deliver but no one was ever in? Surely that strategy can't last forever. Deliver them weeks late? - not even feasible with more coming every day.

    Any insights, ideas?

No backlog in our depot, the volumes are being managed well by all staff.Volumes will increase over the next couple of weeks and then start to fall off. There shouldn't be any major problems unless it snows, in which case all delivery companies will be in the same boat ie HMS Stuffed.
You will get the odd parcel that isn't being delivered properly as you say, but its a small % of what is actually delivered.I see this for myself first hand, I am not just taking my own experience and assuming its the same for everyone like some do.
It just looks bad as people come on forums like this to post their negative experiences far more than their positive ones.

BTW if you cannot get hold of your local depots number(this is the best solution IMO as a member of staff will speak directly to your driver) then contacting whoever you bought the item off does usually work as they have a more direct line of communication with us and it does in most cases get back to the driver.

i was waiting on a package from SPORTS DIRECT ordered a couple of weeks ago.

first my parcel was in england, and delivered to someone else
then it was in belfast and out for delivery.
then it was back in belfast, as apparently i wasnt in (i was) and a card left (no it wasnt)
i phoned and was assured it would be with me yesterday
but now its back in Sheffield.

yodel told me to phone sports direct as it was sent back to them, i dont think so it would cost a blooming fortune.

    i despair

Thanks Delivery Driver. I don't mind late deliveries so much, but what I and many others object to are the fabricated delivery histories that seem to be made up, sometimes for 4 days in a row, rather than a more honest "delivery not attempted".
