My sister has asked me for money. I feel bad for her as cause of her boyfriends condition and his sickleave he only gets 12 weeks on full pay. I also would have to post my gift to Oxford
I'm glad that you feel the same about work lifts. I usually don't mind putting money in and I do it on the same basis as you whether I like the person but I was just annoyed today as it was for a wedding anniversary. Think unless the couple are having a party these things should be between themselves. Was annoyed at the demanding way I was asked for the cash too ie we've already bought the gift without asking so you've now got to contribute.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
Thats wrong in my book, we always collect before purchasing (and if we can't agree an amount)
Do you have anything you can Amazon/Ebay or Car boot? Might not raise much, but every little helps.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Maybe you could send a lettter round to everyone in the office to say that in future you will not be contributiong to any collections as you have strong views on the subject (don't have to say what they are). I did this about Christmas cards as I thought it stupid to send a CC to people who I sat beside and could wish Merry Christmas personally. I added that I would pay an amount annually to a charity instead. (I used to give a £10 to the local hospice) £10 per year would be a lot better than £20 per month.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

We got a poster from the NSPCC but Childline and lots of others do them :
How will you be spreading festive cheer in your workplace this Christmas? Will you be donning furry antlers and a flashing red nose? Maybe you could suggest a carol-singing karaoke contest around the photocopier.
Alternatively, you and your colleagues can make your seasonal greetings go further by taking part in ChildLine’s Card Free Zone fundraiser.
It's easy! ChildLine will send you a pack that includes a poster for your staff notice board, on which everyone in your workplace can write their festive greetings to one another, giving you the opportunity to donate the money you don’t spend on Christmas cards to ChildLine. Last year, over the twelve days of Christmas, ChildLine counselled more than 3,300 children in danger and distress. Every penny raised through the Card Free Zone fundraiser will help the charity offer comfort, advice and protection to more children this Christmas.
About Card Free Zone
Card Free Zone is a simple way for you and your colleagues to help ChildLine keep its free, 24-hour helpline running this Christmas. Card Free Zone packs will be available from September 2005 and include a poster on which you and your colleagues can write their festive greetings to one another. In return, ChildLine invites you to donate the money you would have spent on Christmas cards to help the charity reach out to more children in danger and distress this Christmas. For more information or to request a ChildLine Card Free Zone pack, email cardfreezone@nspcc.org.uk.

Have not done at all week this week
Just had a fight with my boyfriend over who's to pay for his sisters wedding present. He wanted me to chip in for it too but it would be £50 which I hadn't budgeted for. I also thought it was unfair that I was paying as much to it as his sisters and he was. He said I was selfish... maybe I am... just sick of people thinking I'll put my hand in my pocket for anything.
Usually when we go to weddings the person who knows or is related to the other person buys the present. He said I was money obsessedJan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
I make you right. If the present is between your BF and his sister I would expect it to be half each not between 3 of you. If you then want to help him pay for his share that would be up to you and what ever you could afford to give.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

I ended up giving him some of the money and he paid the rest. The wedding was really lovely. Didn't spend too much either apart from on my hair. I stupidly went to another hairdresser who told me that they wouldn't be able to tell me how much it cost until the end and then charged £75:eek:
Have been good this week though. £5 for another life and £2.40 going for a coffee with my friend last night (that was just for the coffee- no cake or anything)
What I have noticed is that I have been charged a higher rate of interest than normal for my OD. Usually its 75p so I feel its a debt I should tackle last now its £12.50  I have about £1000 outstanding at the end of each month on the OD. Has anyone got any ideas?Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
I moved my OD in to the Alliance and Leicester 0% for a year one. I was give £450 without questions and without switching my account. This was at least half it (assuming OD level was the same) and give you time to pay it off, you just need to transfer £500 into it every month.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0
