Not that this is particularly scientific, but I don't believe it's the healthiest kind of milk to have because of the way fat molecules and protein are digested when they're smaller.

It wasn't a specific website - I hadn't seen that one before today. There's quite a lot of information available about the potential risks with homogenised milk. It's just not in one useful place ;)

  • one thing I did read somewhere was that organic milk was good- in fact it was stated that milk is one of the few organic foods which have notable difference in benefits.

(not sure where I read this but think it might be CSIRO- Australian government's scientific arm)

My twins went onto cows milk at 12month..... saved £80.00 a month :):):)

They got 'fat' milk... what ever was on offer - and still do now ;)

On the subject of HVs, you won;t see them unless you seek them out once baby is bigger. You can still go to the weigh-in clinics at any age really, and you can phone them if you want to speak to them. But what do you need them for really? Medical Qs you can see your GP, to my mind HVs are great when baby is tiny, but not so much use later on.

I do see mine weekly but only because I do our local Bf drop-in clinic alongside the HV clinic. But I never have anything I want to ask them.

There's plenty I'd have asked about. Sleeping issues. Eating issues. Teething issues. Taking LO on a plane issues. My HV told me she would be at the weekly weighing session but she hasn't been once, and I find the others wishy washy and pointless. I've resigned myself to using google now.

We put our son on to full fat cows milk at 1. He's having a varied solid diet so we werent concerned about any deficiency. He's had terrible sickness through the last year and the doctors tried everything, as soon as he's off powdered milk he's stopped being sick! we dont have to give him carabella or anything else they trialled us on he's now a normal little boy. We also dont have to wait for the boiled water to cool - milk in cup, 40 secs in microwave and ready for bed! its so much easier and cheaper now.

My daughter has been on cow's milk since she turned one. She has a cold at the moment and is very congested, and the milk seems to make that worse. Without giving medical advice, do you think she would benefit from swapping to goat's milk?

Hardly scientific proof but this is my experience: my son constantly had a lot of congestion, particularly at night, after we switched to cows milk at 1 year old. When he was about 15 months (he's nearly 10 now!!) we read somewhere that organic milk was better for this so we tried it and within a couple of days there was a dramatic change in his breathing at night and a lot less coughing and snuffling during the day. We've stuck with organic ever since.
