My Dd is nearly 14 months and I switched her onto cows milk as soon as she hit 12 months although she had been having it in her cereal earlier. I did however buy some toddler milk today but that was because we were snowbound last year and I want to have it just in case it happens again this year and we can't get out to buy fresh milk.Did consider just using the UHT milk but thats semiskimmed.
Mine too is happy eating spinach and pulses ( really likes houmous!) and I consider this to be a better source of ironFirst they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.0 -
:T sounds like she has a fantastic diet (spinach is the one thing that I could never get either of mine to eat no matter how many times I offered it to them) Welcome to the mug club, I think most parents have been there at one point or another lol
Enjoy the treats
It took a lot of hard work to get her there! Spinach was the one vegetable she hated right From the off because I was using the jars and pouches. Then one day, I cooked for her in a saag as I would eat it, minus the salt and chillies, and she loved that with some boiled rice.
Saag aloo is a hot favourite in our house. once a fortnight it gets made and both my kids love itYou'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -
I have 3 kids and breast fed all 3. I introduced FF cows milk with their cereal in the morning and as soon as they hit 12 months they had cows milk to drink.
All 3 are happy and healthy and love milk to drink especially before bed. My eldest is 13!!!!
Don't get sucked into the advertisers misleading adverts. A healthy and varied diet will make sure you have a happy healthy child.[SIZE=2]SPC4 #1395 Aug 11 £135.75/£150

When my daughter turned one, i bought a tin of this...then read the ingredients list and was horrified to see sugar in various forms appear several times, so never gave it to her.
Iron is really important and is better absorbed with vitamin C, so as long as they get plenty of iron and vit C, your daughter will be fine with a normal diet.0 -
Spinach hasn't got as much iron in it as you'd think. I believe broccoli and red meat are better sources.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Can you freeze goat's milk?
My daughter has been on cow's milk since she turned one. She has a cold at the moment and is very congested, and the milk seems to make that worse. Without giving medical advice, do you think she would benefit from swapping to goat's milk?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

i really really wouldnt remove dairy from a childs diet without medical supervision.
im a bit of a hypocrite in that i did with DS2 but he was being violently sick during the night not long after i switched him to cows milk full time and my dr was just blaming a virus when i told him i suspected a dairy allergy so i removed all dairy for 1 day and he stopped being sick so i went back and told him that as soon as dairy was removed the sickness stopped and he was referred to a dietician and i was told to put him onto soya which wasnt a big change as im allergic to dairy myself.
reduce it a little and see but i wouldnt switch to anything else and certainly not goats milks as IMO is horrible!0 -
Tell me what you guys think, please. I'd like to know your experiences
I think it is a con.
I have breastfed past 12 months but I have given cows milk from 12 months onwards. Indeed, I am aware of friends who have given cows milk earlier than 12 months! Follow-on milk is an utterly pointless drink, created by companies trying to circumvent advertising bans for formula milk. (Which I think is also pointless as anyone who really needs formula milk for their baby would seek it out even if it was hidden at the bottom of a coal mine - who is going to let their child starve??)
If your child is ready to wean (fully or partially, off breastmilk or formula milk) then cows milk, fortified soya milk or fortified orange juice are all good sources of calcium - as are dairy products, almonds, dark green veggies (e.g. broccoli), sesame seeds (e.g. tahini in hummus), etc. As for iron, again you should be getting that from a varied diet - red meat, nuts, fortified cereal (yes, even those vile sugary childrens' cereals), pate, dark green leafy veggies, etc.0 -

You can get long-life full-fat cows milk! In fact, you can buy long-life skimmed, semi and whole. I generally keep a carton of long-life milk in the house for my kids, in case I run out of the fresh stuff and have a milk "emergency". lol I don't consume milk myself (I think it tastes and smells vile) but my kids have never made an objection and don't seem to notice the difference between long-life and fresh.0
