Why? House price rises are the only sure way of killing the standard of living.

It makes sense for house owners I guess - though unless ou intend to sell for the proffit I dont really see how (and they you have to rent right?), but for the rest of the country its not.

We (as a country not a demographic of any sort) need cheap hosusing. The cheaper the better - both prices and rent. that way less of a persons income is spent on the roof - leaving more spare to buy other things - thereby stimulating the economy and getting money moving.

Whether it will happen or not - either price falls or rises - im not making comment on. TBH it could go either way, BUT that doesnt make the argument of where accomodation prices SOULD be.

15% over 5 years equates to about 2.85% per annum, with inflation likely to drop soon, 15% over 5 years equates to stagnation, not 'soaring'.

Is the express a satire paper, serious question?

Yes, and thats very important for bears, given the pounding they have taken over the last few years ..

I was going to say the readers of the Express have the same IQ as those who read the Beano. However that would be disrespectful to readers of the Beano.
  • Is Sarah O'Grady the most deluded journalist in the UK? I wonder if she's working on her property exit strategy as prices fall in the real world. :rotfl:

I did get annoyed with these articles ... really annoyed, as I was looking for a place to buy and the sellers would probably read this and hold onto their price point.

Sad, and begrudgingly, I have to admit that this looks very likely - I do believe that prices paid have increased 10% in the South from just 8 months ago. The unmoved asking prices have masked this rise from most people ..... but the price paid has been on the up for quite a while now.

    Agree with Chuck here.

A 15% rise in my property by 2016 would bring it back to 2007/8 level when I bought. ie the same price as 8/9 years ago.

Luckily it doesn't matter much to me as I have won out due to my use of Lodgers. How will it affect most.

FTB's lose out by no crash. Although we should see an easing up of mortgage restrictions regarding LTV ratios if prices continue to stagnate for this length of time.

I can see the proportion of renters increasing during this time period so good news for BTL. This is probably what will prevent nominal falls in price keeping them 'real'.

Only good news I can see from the purely personal position of hating their smugness is that STR's will be fked over. I imagine a large proportion of them will give in and buy. Another thing preventing drops along with the rise in BTL.
