I don't think cold calling at people's homes is illegal, but I'd be very surprised if it's effective.

Several councils have No Cold Calling Zones.

Thanks for the link. However according to the link it is not illegal to cold-call in the zones:-

"NCCZ do not ban cold callers or create exclusion zones, however they can be effective in deterring unscrupulous cold callers from approaching people living in the zones and giving those residents the confidence to say “No”."

I don't think it's illegal to cold call. However if someone has put up a notice you should respect it. We put proper housing association notices on our sheltered housing scheme doors and as warden, if I found anyone cold calling I ordered them off the premises. Probably acting outside my remit but perhaps not if they were on housing association property - I was acting on behalf of both the tenant and the landlord.
If I knew the organisation responsible I would ring their local office and complain.
Here is a council link explaining the rules.

Btw you need a licence if you are selling goods (as opposed to services).

Anyone who knocks on my door goes on the banned list. Forever.

Knocking on doors to sell something is a bad idea. Big companies are changing their policies as they have finally decided to listen to consumers who keep screaming at them to stop it.

Your business will not gain a reputable name doing this.

I wont even entertain anyone who comes cold calling, the sooner do they call they get the door firmly closed, if they cant respect my wishes when I put a sign up I dont respect them. All catalogues goes straight in bin along with junk mail, pizza leaflets etc

well these are not selling at your door, they post a catalogue through your door and then call a few days later to collect the catalogue. then have not sold you anything at your door.
