BT landline BILL

hi hoping someone might be able to help, we were due to expect our bill on or around the 5th November, anyway forgot all about it as no bill, i got an automated call on 19th saving my line was going to be restricted as the bill wasnt payed, after that i rang bt and told them i hadnt recieved my bill, he was really nice about it promised my line wouldnt be restricted , no late payment and i would have ten days to pay the bill ,he said he would resend bill and it would be 3-4 working days.
Returned home to find the mail but no phone bill (4th day now) afraid to ring again as they might think im trying my luck, we havent budgeted for this as there was no bill to remind us, dont know what to do now.
Have i got an right to say im not paying as it wasnt my fault and we had not budged for it and that they failed to send it twice on time?
Any advice would behelpful Thanks

No you do not have that right. They have provided the service, you have to pay for it. Did they tell you the amount owing when you rang them? One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

I dont mean to be rude but what on earth did you do with the money that you had set aside for when the bill came in? Have you spent it already?"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

If you havent budgeted for it, how would you have paid it if it had been sent? Not getting on at you, just genuinely curious
You havent by any chance signed up for paperless billing (e-billing) have you? Many companies wont send out paper bills (unless specifically requested and - usually - charged for) if you sign up for this option.
Have you double checked they have your address correct and havent maybe edited it (if you're a long time customer) by mistake? Have you checked with your local post office to see if there are any problems or perhaps mail there for you?
In the past 3 days, I've had 2 letters delivered here that was meant for my neighbour (for example i'm number 13 and they're number 15 - not my actual number btw) and also a further letter that was meant for an entirely different street! In both cases the address on the envelope was correct. In the latter case, the only similarity is the house number and first letter of the address. Actual address/post code is completely different. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
If you struggle to budget and rely on bills turning up (or not), then you should really think about paying by DD.
You use the phone, you're regularly billed for this usage. It's really no excuse to say that just because the bill's not turned up, you haven't set the money aside."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
How can you not have budgeted for it when you knew it was due? You must have had a vague idea how much it was going to be from previous bills.
Any why didn't you just pay by debit card when you first phoned them?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
well thankyou all for making a bad day worse, my husband has bipolar and is bankrupt due to this,(my husband does his best to go to work to support our family even when he is depressed, he could easily give up work and live on benfits but he has pride), due to that fact so no we cant set up direct debits, husband gets paid at the end of the month and because of no bill we didnt put the money aside(was i not ment to get my children shoes or birthday present), only knew it was due to drop on mat around 5th when i phoned them. we all dont live in a plastic fantastic world. Feel like ive been thrown to the wolves with all those unhelpful comments. Now on the verge of tears so thank you very much. Everything and event in life is not black or white, and im sorry i dont fit in your perfect ideas/ways.0

But surely if you can see you have a phone in your house, you must know it's not free and has to be paid for?!
Unfortunately we don't live in a world where we tell you what you want to hear, that BT will give you months to pay it, we tell you the truth.
If the truth isn't what you want to hear, don't come back ranting at us. We give advice to assist you and hopefully prevent debt collectors coming to your house etc, not to be moaned at because you can't remember to pay a bill and have spent the money on something else.0 -
Being bankrupt is no reason to not set up direct debits.
Sorry, but you knew the bill was due. How were you going to pay it if it did turn up when you were expecting it?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Bottom line - don't expect random strangers on the internet to give you e-hugs. If you ask a question here you'll be given factually-correct answers (in the main). But you won't get things sugar-coated to avoid hurting any delicate feelings.
Harsh? Maybe - but true.0 -

Not at all, sound advice. If all we did was give out e-hugs and offer wrong but friendly and nice advice, we'd have a million more whingers!
Bottom line, manage your money.0
