Have you sorted it out with him yet?
He is denying he knew anything about any of the problems. Playing the 'I know nothing' card. Not surprised.
Going to have to drop it now I guess because I can I'm going to be seen as the one being unreasonable and picking on the young lad.
Lesson learnt - dont trust anyone...0 -
I'm sorry to hear that. At least you gave it a go. Well done, as there is a certain amount of girding of loins required for a confrontation like that.
If he's claiming that it's a sale from one mechanical numpty to another mechanical numpty, then regardless of the legalities, for a sale between friends/relatives, morally, he should refund you the full purchase price, and take the car back.
But it appears that his morals aren't up to scratch, and he values the money more than the family connection. So, at least you can take the high road, and for the cost of x pounds, you have just verified that this family connection is NEVER to be trusted.
A bargain for such a warning, considering how many decades stretch in front of you. Simply scrape him off your shoe. Good luck.

Well, so far I've managed to source the exhaust online for £60 so its gonna be about £100 fitted. Not happy but I aint got no choice.
£35 to get the lock fixed - benefit of doubt. Same with plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm - sort of service items and total cost will be about £40-£50 for these. cant expect perfection.
However, if head gasket is gone (and he knew about it) and it turns out be terminal (i.e. cost £100s) then I will be in touch with him again to get a refund.
Whether he will or not is another matter?0
