Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

If you read on Rightmove there is a large shortage of properties on the market compared with the amount of people looking to buy this month. Unfortunatly I agree, a house I liked came on the market and it sold within 4 days for what I can only presume was close to the asking price and Ive had to offer asking price to try secure the property. Theres so many buyers been looking for a long period the houses are getting snapped up.

    They also say....

"Buying Find your perfect property from over 685,000 homes for sale."
"Renting Find a property to rent from over 115,000 rental properties. "

Looks like a massive shortage to me.

What you actually mean is there is a 'massive shortage' in your area. That doesnt mean nationally.

Come up to Sheffield, we have more than enough for everyone, especially if you want a city centre flat.

I went for a "meet the team" thing and hanging out and getting a flavour for the work, last week. ( estate agency)

I have previously been a gloom merchant, then I thought well london is buoyant as anecdotally, and from selling my own place, I thought things were ticking over quite nicely here. Nothing at all prepared me for that visit to my new office. I was absolutely STAGGERED to find properties literally ( ok, not literally) flying out of the door, most properties that are not holes are finding asking price buyers on day one of marketing. the phone didnt stop, plenty of call ins, all on a non-traditionally busy time of the week, ( tuesday am)

    Madness.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I am a long term bear on housing but while the money supply is rising at the rate it is, this boom will almost certainly continue - the whole thing is being driven by liquidity and greed. Fear won't come in to it until liquidity starts drying up.

The fact is that houses are massively expensive on any sort of long-term view - yields are tiny, prices:wages ratios are huge. This is the case in most countries across the world: Botswana, Australia, France and the Faroes Islands have seen a doubling of house prices over the past few years according to The Economist.

However, as JM Keynes said, "The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent".

It also pays to bear in mind that for the vast majority of people, house prices are only important three times: the day they buy, the day they sell and when they brag about how clever they've been at a dinner party.

    No actually I meant Nationally:

Property shortages push average asking prices to new record high
The January edition of the Rightmove.co.uk House Price Index is now available. Showing trends in asking prices based on over half of the property market, the House Price Index is the leading indicator of residential property prices in England and Wales.

This month... demand from new households outstrips stock levels.

I don't agree with the Housing shortage arguement. I was buying my second home in the late 80's and they were using that arguement then! Strange how many houses were empty a couple of years latter !!!!

Agreeed, it's like the current new car shortage we have.

Massive undersupply of <£10K new executive saloons (5 series, A6 etc).

    How can this be?
