I bought some filters for my DC01 the other day from a shop that fixes vacuume cleaners and sells a few parts. I was talking to the owner, an old fella and he said in his experience the DC01 is still the best cleaner Dyson have ever made. The shops been there for years and was full of customers various Dyson models, so I guess he should know.

Best in what way?

I totally messed my DC 01 up, it doesn't even vacuum right anymore, it is WELL fragile and I stepped on the front sucky bit and cracked something - I still think the DC 07 is better.

this is so old hat... and like you really need a dyson 'the ball' vacuum cleaner... Some people just fall for the hype

I guess he just meant it was the best at sucking up muck from your floors, which is what I want from a vacuume cleaner.
I agree though that it does seem a bit fragile and the plastic is quite a hard brittle type. Mine is still going strong though after many years (ab)use including sucking up lots of plaster dust and building mess.
