I closed my Paypal account a while back. Evil company they are.0

As much as I think this buyer may be taking the mickey here, to send out an untested item & assume it is in full working order is very naive to say the least.0

hi there, thank you for your comment...
the item was purchased from a company (with over 41K positive feedback, sorry not over 47K as i made an error on my previous reply) on ebay advertised as a manufacturer's refurbished item. the company described the item was checked and tested by a qualified technician. the company did say the dehumidifier was manufacturer's refurbished and based on the ebay's bible, it means, 'An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer-approved vendor. This means the product has been inspected, cleaned and repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and is in excellent condition.'
i originally and honestly bought this dehumidifier for a new home gift for someone. and this is why i was confident and sure the item was in good working condition. the company also offers me a 90 days guarantee. so i don't believe the machine is not working at all. furthermore, if i was in any doubt with the item, i would not dare to ask the 'witch' to make a PayPal payment to me. i have heard a lot of PayPal's reputation before!
anyway, the machine is now returned back to me as used - water found inside, scratches and damage all over the body, plaster on the back and wheel, etc.. so at least i know i was and am still right about the item.0 -

hi there, thanks for your comment...
to be honest, after this utterly awful experience, i will close my PayPal account once i have resolved the future of this returned damaged dehumidifier. my housemate closed his PayPal account a while ago, and colleagues at work closed theirs too. at the end of the day, a company like PayPal just doesn't deserve to have any customers...
i shall switch to use moneybooker and google checkout instead...0 -
You have to look at it from PayPal's point of view.
They are just people working in an office and they have to make these decisions all the time. One one side is you and on the other is the buyer. The buyer might be lying and they might not. How do PayPal know? They have offered you a very reasonable solution and you should be happy with that.
You say the dehumidifier must have been working. Why? You said yourself you didn't even open it. It has been transported twice before the buyer received it. It could have easily be damaged in transit.
You also say it is now damaged and has been used. What suggests it has been used? In what way is it damaged? Could this have happened in transit?
And most importantly, does the dehumidifier work?0 -
I'm sorry to hear that you've had all these problems. What a nuisance.
A few things come to mind. I don't think this is particularly necessarily a paypal problem as such, it sounds more like the sort of caper that happens doing any mailorder sales using any methods. I did a lot of mailorder sales in the 90s, pre internet, and I had dozens of problems and headaches. Loads of it, all the time all sorts of weird stuff went on, it goes with the territory. So much so that I packed it in, it was such a pain in the neck all the time. It didn't matter how efficient I was, the whole nature of the business was just so full of holes that it wasn't cost effective. Endless silliness and mucking about. Over and over again.
I'm amazed that you've managed to get through to paypal on the phone. A few years ago that was one of the problems that a lot of people complained about, that there was only email contact and generally only automated messages with apparently no actual live people at the other end of the email. So an actual phone line with real people answering them is a massive improvement.
I'm also amazed to hear that they've said that they'll buy the dehumidifier from you. Again, compared to the complaints that were being publicised a few years ago when I read up the subject a lot that's nothing short of miraculous. I don't doubt what you're saying but I'm flabbergasted to hear that.
Perhaps you may be interested in paypalsucks dot com the complaint site. Some of the legal stuff is interesting, big class actions in America suing them and people bombing offices - yes, for real, bombing the offices! - and all sorts of extreme stuff. Possibly you might feel like posting your experience on the forum. Plus reading about all the problems that lots of other people have had can be quite interesting and illuminating. And shocking. There's some terrible stories. One of them a couple of years ago, the bloke doing the merchandise for a famous pop band and it all got terribly messed up and went on and on for months with lots of horrible twists and turns and he got completely done over and lost, what was it, something like 50k and loads more if you include all the future business that got destroyed. Awful.
Anyway, I hope you manage to get this resolved to some kind of satisfaction, one way or another. Yes, I expect you'll be relieved when you can finally lay this one to rest. What a nuisance, what a palaver. Brings it back to me, the extreme irritation and frustration that I went through on so many occasions. Some of the stuff that happened was such a load of bother. When I was at it I also knew several other companies also doing it and they told me about some of the incredible mucking about that they got dragged into and all the people ripping them off. I won't start listing it all out here, it would take ages to type it all up, pages and pages. Maybe I'll write a book about it one day.
Just one more before I go, this reminds me of one a few years ago, a bloke selling printer ink and cartridges via ebay and apparently those products are sometimes quite popular with fraudsters and people using ripped off credit cards. So out of several thousand sales totalling tens of thousands of pounds something ridiculous like 80% or 90% turned out to be bogus. Which completely crippled the bloke's business. And then, I can't quite remember now, but I think it was also some stuff about him getting raided by the police because they assumed that with so many bad sales he must be something to do with it. And didn't he get sued as well and lost his house, something appalling like that. And it went on and on and totally wiped him out. His business had been thriving before he went on the net with it. But doing it over the net completely knackered it. Where did I read that? Maybe it was in the national newspapers.
Anyway, mailorder sales. OMG! Never again. Not if I can help it. It's awful. A living nightmare. And when five or more of them go wrong in a big way, all at the same time, oh no, save me...>shudder<
Good luck, mate.0 -

hi there, thank you for your comment...
to respond your comment about how paypal would know the buyer was lying or not. when paypal asked me to respond to the dispute, i told paypal that before the buyer purchased the item off from me, she made it very clear she needed the dehumidifier for a home improvement project, she sent me several text messages to request the machine to be delivered to her asap. when my courier delivered the machine to her, the item was signed by one of her workmen, and she did tell me her workmen would be in the house to accept the item. the item was sent to her a month ago, then i heard nothing from her to say any problems with the item, but all the sudden she decided to contact me 3 weeks after the workman accepted the item to say the dehumidifier was not working. how does that work?
i have already said this before on my previous post that the buyer told me the item 'was not working', but not it 'has stopped working'. im not trying to be a smart as* but surely that is two different situations.
as soon as i received an email from paypal to inform me about the dispute, i started to gather all the information to support and prove my story. i know my dispute is just a small claim which is worth £115.00, but i did get very stressed, upset and angry about the whole thing. i rang paypal almost every day to discuss my dispute. i stayed up till 2am on tues 22 to write to paypal, and when they responded to me, all they said was the decision was set. you just would not believe how much hassle, stress and emotions i have had since the dispute started.
i said the dehumidifier must have been working because i heard nothing from the buyer to report the item having any problems for 3 weeks. the item did get transported twice but the machine was packed in the original packaging and paddings. if the machine could not survive after two trips in the uk, it would never have been survive before it was sold to me, it was made in the far east, the journey was even further and longer.
once i have received the machine back, the drawer which collects water and the back of the machine were wet and damped. if it has not been used, how did the water get inside of the machine? only the buyer can answer that...0 -
This is the big question, if it does, video it and send the vid to paypal.

hi there, thank you for your comment...
the machine sent back to me with water inside. if the machine was really not working, how could the water get to the inside?
paypal is not going to do anything to the buyer about this returned damaged dehumidifier, so it's no point for me to send them any videos or pictures to show the current status of the item.0 -

hi there, thank you for your comment...
i guess this bad experience has really put me off to use paypal again. i know i am the defendant here, but to be honest, it is a very straightforward claim. i supplied all my evidence to paypal but they wouldn't consider i was right, and the buyer only told them my item was not working then paypal made the decision in her favour. i really think, why should i be bothered to stay up late to write to paypal? why should i be bothered to gather all information for them? why should i be bothered to speak to them on the phone almost every day? and more importantly why should i be bothered to lose sleep at night here?0
