Hi moneysavers, can any one recommend an oil supplier who will deliver less than 500 litres in the West Oxfordshire area?. It will save me hours on the phone.
I just got my £200 heating allowance and did a quick phone round (3). The cheapest was 59.9 p litre +vat.and the others were close to that.
Unfortunately I can't afford the extra money to buy 500 litres hence the question.
Anyone???

I don't think anyone will deliver less than 500 litres, i have read on here that you can sometimes take containers to the supplier and they will fill them for you, price per litre will be a lot higher i'd have thought....0

Certainly all of our local suppliers have a 500 litre minimum order. Last winter when the tankers couldn't deliver due to snow, some people drove to the depot and picked up drums of oil in their cars, as Jess says. Not sure if the suppliers do this as standard or whether this was a one-off due to the extreme conditions, you can only phone and ask.0 -
I thought it was possible to order 200 litres of home heating oil. I know our local garages sell home heating oil in 20 litre containers costs about £40 which is expensive but its meant to be an emergency source.
Best wishes, Moggy0 -
Oh btw if you google "cheapest oil"+"your area of the UK" - there are websites which gives a list of suppliers and today's rate for 500 litres for example.
Hope that helpsMoggy

Theres companys in NI that you can just ring and say can I have 250quids worth and they will deliver the amount in litres for that price. Business is business and I dont see why a company would have a minimum of 500 litres, maybe 200 seems more reasonable especially if its local to them0

We used to get oil from Total Butler, after the 1st 'cash' purchase they allowed you to pay by direct debit a monthly amount. Although this link is their online ordering they do take phone orders - you could ring and ask about staggered payments. The online ordering page talks of new customers being able to pay 50% up front and 50% by direct debit...

Yep, there have been times when I've just needed 200 litres - to see me through...
Apparently it's due to Trading Standards legislation. So, the minimum legal amount for a delivery of 500 litres is a standard set by the weights and measures authority...
It's a nuisance...but given the costs of running a tanker/driver unit it also makes economic sense for companies - who are hardly likely to lobby for a lower level! Then, on the environmental/health and safety aspect...the more times they deliver fuel...the more chances there are to have a spillage...0
