Regardless of if it's internal or external it's still a credit check...0

Any new contract will involve a check, no big business works on trust. They may not check to the same level, may have done it in house rather than using Equifax or Experian but they will have done some checking.
O2 do not do a credit check, they clearly stated to me that it isn't a credit check, all they do if check your last couple of months bills are paid and upto date. This was when I went to get a NEW contract with them.0 -

The internal check MissKeith is talking about is not a credit check, no credit checking agencies are contacted. It is CPW doing its own risk assessment on the sale.
O2 do not credit check for upgrades, whether done directly or through a third party dealer (CPW/P4U). They will only do an internal check to ensure the account is in good standing with them (no defaults on the account etc).0 -
They won't/don't need to tell you that they're credit checking you with x or y credit agency.

We'll always ask your permission before we run a credit check. If you buy something in one of our stores or over the phone our advisor will put your information into a computer system linked to Equifax's data bank. This data is retrieved electronically within a few seconds, and matched against a profile set by your service provider.- If you're signing up online we'll send you an email if you haven't passed the credit check - if you don't hear anything you can assume you've passed.
- If buying in-store we'll let you know there and then if you've been accepted, and if you haven't we'll do our best to find a different product that suits your needs.
What is a credit check?
Our mobile phone and internet providers use credit checks to look at your financial history before deciding whether to offer you a contract. We have to carry out a credit check every time one of our customers signs up to a pay monthly mobile phone, broadband or laptop contract. This helps protect you from identity fraud and stops you from running up bills you can't pay.
Our credit checks are carried out by our credit checking agencies, Equifax and Experian. To decide whether we can let you sign up to one of our deals, they look at information from:- The electoral roll
- Court records such as CCJs (county court judgements) and bankruptcies but not criminal convictions
- Your financial history - all your dealings with banks, building societies and other lenders
All decisions about whether you can sign up to a deal are taken by your service provider, based on information supplied by Equifax and Experian. We don't see the information they base their decision on. However, if you sign up to our laptop credit agreement, the decision to accept your credit application is taken by us.0 -
Just make sure you also say clearly at CWP that it's an upgrade. August last year in CPW, I ended up with 2 x Contracts due to the sales assistant being a bit ditzy.
Took me a week to get it sorted with CPW and O2!0 -
I'll never know - yet - CW sold the phone they left over for me. Charmers.0

I was able to upgrade no problem before and in a trust deed but I've always done it in o2.
thanks
No you will not be credit scored for an upgrade on O2 via carphonewarehouse, or any other 3rd party retailer, provided it is a straight forward upgrade and not a new line.
Contracts on O2 from CPW are O2 direct contracts now so the upgrade process is the same.0 -
If you're subject to a Trust Deed, then surely a new handset should be a low priority until the creditors are all paid up?0

It's a FREE upgrade and doesn't affect my monthly outgoings. My Trustee is well aware of my expenditure and my creditors.0
