Simply refuse to pay this extra charge.

He isnt charging VAT at all, he is trying to pass on paypal charges to his customes via hidden charges, that is not allowed. But most buyers will query this and will pay. Makes you wonder how much extra this person has made his sales.

I had a similar situation, where a hidden charge was added, i refused to pay and emailed seller about 5 times what the charge was, never got a reply, just a revised bill, they even lowered the postage.

You would have every right to report this seller to ebay.

  • I think reporting him to Paypal would be more effective. Frozen account, anyone?

I answered this on the other thread where the OP asked and gave links to the appropriate ebay pages. However to recap the seller cannot charge VAT unless it states in the auction listing that VAT will be added and the VAT registration details shown.

The Sellers also may not charge extra for paying by paypal.

The seller can't do that either.

Just a mistake, thank goodness for that.

Quite often these things are just a simple error on the users part.

I am slightly suspicious of these “errors”. It might well be a genuine error, but it also might be quite deliberate.

I could accept an accidental error of 17.5% VAT being added, but I find it hard to imagine what kind of error leads to

“VAT (3.700% in NORTH YORKSHIRE): £0.74 GBP”

being added to an invoice. That is hardly a random computer error as someone would have needed to enter those words and numbers somehow.

Silkyuk09, perhaps you should contact a few of his recent buyers and see if they also had this error and report him to ebay if they have, otherwise he might carry on with his scam.

How many buyers just pay the extra 3.4% and give the buyer a nice extra profit?

At least he responded and offered you an acceptable refund or extra balls, but you had "balls" to chase it up in the first place ! :rotfl: Sorry - glad you got there in the end.
