I currently live in a hell hole where 3 bed semis can be had for 40k.
I will be moving to a nicer area where 3 bed semis can currently be had for under 70k.
The nicer area has everything that i require.
Just because a 3 bed semi is 70k it does not mean it is located in a deprived area.
The area has got a flashy wine bar on the high street if that helps.
I thought you mocked those who buy in the nicer area as it's temptation for rogues from the hell hole area.:wall:

What about moving nearer to London now that prices are falling there?

Luck doesnt come into it.
Agreed.
you just have to ensure you have enough and the right type of security when you move to the nice area to stop the riff raff from your previous hell hole coming and stealing your stuff

Unfortunately I HAVE to buy a 3 bed something - be it semi, or terrace. I have a wife, a boy and a girl. A studio flat, or 2 up 2 down just wont house them unfortunatley. given most 3 beds arnt --- in that there 2 and a box room that wont even take a full sized single and let you open the door, I may have to look at 4 beds

Ive been looking around the £100k mark - up to £120k and there actually seems quite a bit of choice. OK there not in the "best" parts of town, and are generally ex council houses, BUT there also not in the real rough/problem areas either.
TBH, good schooling is the hardest part to find. BUT ultimately, renting is still more expensive than purchasing - and given I wont get state help due to my froces pension, Ill have to buy whatever the costs I guess. As long as I can actually get a mortgage.0 -

It's hard four you, but unfortunately it won't change much for the better as we live on a crowded island. The bearish types can dream of a massive crash but it really won't happen if it hasn't already.

Oh - having said that as Im looking in areas Ive never lived (looking for a location that will offer decent employment oportunities either close, or with easy transport links), Im not 100% whats a good and bad area, though I do have some information.
Thinking of this kind of thing. Some are better houses (as in space, rooms, layout etc) some in better areas.

Oh - keep thinking of things

One thing I have notices, is ex council homes seem pretty roomy - where as newer builds, even brand new, are actually much smaller rooms and fewer of them for 2 or 3 times the price.
Some are in slightly better areas granted, but Id rather compromise with a not good but not bad area, but something of a decent size, that a shoe box in a really nice area.
Maybe thats just me. I guess as long as crime isnt rife, there arnt piles of needles or nasty gangs on every corner, and the schools are average to good then Id be happy.0
