I agree with you .... let's build lots of houses on the North Coast of Scotland ... land is cheap there.

Truth is, houses need to be where the people want them - and that drives up the price of those houses, there is no escaping economic realities. houses are wanted, houses are needed, there isn't enough to go around - so, the richest get those available.

If house prices were lower, people'd more easily be able to borrow the money and save the deposit. Simples.

There's no mortgage shortage - just a shortage of people that can meet the criteria to get one for the huge amount they want to be able to pay the high house prices being asked.

    Exactly,

No harm in paying for location, but we can also build lots of cheap houses in a new location.

Seams silly not to provide what people want.

A house will command a price due to supply and demand. So building 'cheap' houses where people want them is a bit of an oxymoron.

    I agree with you 100%

But, please, tell me how we can get lower house prices ......

As long as the low numbers of houses available get sold there will be no reason to drop the prices ..... and that's why house prices cannot fall.

THats what we should be doing, then move all on social into them free up the housing for those that want to work.

The real issue is the artificial cost of land not the houses on the land

seems we are going to be able to free up miles and miles of green belt to build some new toll roads but a couple of acres near a town where people can actualy walk/cycle/bus to work no way.

Its how it was done before, people lived near their work

Found some coal, open a mine, build a load of houses for the workers.

Big factory sites like BR and RR in Derby surrounded by loads of houses.

    Houses too expensive?

    Compared to WHAT?

Compared to the sensible affordable - free market - levels they should be at.

It's not the House Price which is stopping FTB's from buying - not in the slightest - it is simply the lack of finance to purchase.

Yes, lack of finance... because of the price. :wall:

The demand to buy is there, and being played out in the South with everything selling extremely fast, just the finance is tight.

Exactly what kind of properties, and buyers, are you observing selling extremely fast? What end of the market are you talking about?

But, since 2008, FTB's have had a chance to save - if they saved £1,000 a month (not at all remarkable), then they will now have around £36,000 ...... which, amazingly, is the about amount needed for a 20% deposit on the average house price.

What? Of course it's everone's ambition to slave away for years in order to just throw away their money into over-priced negative equity.

House prices are where they have to be, I would suggest.

The state of the housing market suggests otherwise.

You lost the argument at this point ........ the FREE MARKET is what is operating at the moment!!!

Levels they 'should' be at - would these be YOUR Levels?

If you want to buy, you buy.

If you want to rent, you rent.

If you want to stay at home with Parents, you stay at home.

It's up to you - you are FREE to do what you wish - in this FREE market!

Technically speaking if you want to reant, you reant.
