'wanna buy a telly/playstation/stereo' -WARNING

Options
my mums mates blokes tv went kaput the other day so he went off searching for a new tv. they were approached in tesco by some bloke who 'noticed you are looking at tv's, ive got a top of the rage blah-blah-blah flat panel that retails at £1500 that you can have for £500'

so off they toddle to looks at this fantastic piece of kit in the back of this blokes van, he gives the 'display' (and real) tv the once over, offers £400 and a deal is done.

when he got the tv home all he had was a plastic 'display tv' like they use in MFI. not a real tv. and a couple of bricks in a box.

so please, be wary of men n vans offering ANYTHING. ive been accosted before with blokes selling speakers and have always refused. thankfully im not as gullible as some.

    my mums mates blokes

Ahh the classic urban legends opening line - as famliar as a fairy tales 'once upon a time'

so this friend of a friend bought a £1500 telly for £400 ?

At that price - it was too good to be true ... and even a box with bricks in would be worth it at that price.
when he got the tv home all he had was a plastic 'display tv'

Never seen these - don't ALL shops just display the real thing ????

Hmmm, but then I forgot this was a fairy tale ...

  • If you were gonna buy a £1500 telly for £400, you must think there's a chance it's stolen.
So, I've no sympathy. In fact I think anyone who gets stung like this deserves it

And the moral of this story is....
Dont buy £1500 tv's for £400 from the back of a blokes van.

    Thanks for the tip.
I was just about to meet Honest Steve around the back of Sainsbury's but now I wont bother.

    Hmmm

With a comment like that - it's you with the attitude

I hope no one gets done/stung anyday

I thought this was the point of moneysavingexpert.com

    Help each other.

Your story is so silly that any chump who would:

a> buy for cash an unopened TV
b> not be able to check the opened one worked as it was in a van
c> want to buy stolen goods

well - they should of seen this too good to be true 'deal' for what it is.

But to be honest I still think it's made up.

So the guy in the van saw this friend of a friend looking at TVs in Tesco's and then took him to his van for a bargain. Hmm. Dumb criminal as Tescos' have CCTV.

it was too goiod to be rue unfortunately but there is one born every minute.

my grandad was riped off once with 2 bloke telling him that there was something the matter with his chimney. they ook him to the bank where he withdew £500 cash so they could fit something to his chimney to make it safe. it could well have killed him had one of his sons not had it checked out when grandad mentioned it. what they fitted was keeping the fumes from his real coa fire within the house. he was lucky he just got ripped off and nothing more.
