  • Oh and as I'm still here, barring sudden changes of mind at 5am it looks like I'm putting off the trip for a bit. Am thinking it might be really nice to do in the spring when I can have an extra couple of days and have researched the hotels and sights a bit more.

And have thought of another more local 'symbolic' place to visit this time. Plus decided I might just have a mini housewarming after all, however messy the place is. It doesn't seem right to not have one and it will be ages before I can get the garden properly sorted, so think it might be a case of stuff perfection and do it now anyway.

    :rotfl: Mama Z rocks

Yep, it's the quiet ones you have to watch...
Z may be very pretty but I doubt he looks like the work of art in question... although he might enjoy the kind of attention he'd get if he did.

    Why? Because it means I'd have a B!! H!!!? ;)

    Where?

Why am I the only one playing guess the holiday destination?
    :D:D

You're not, I'm playing too & with the recent apples & freedom hint I'm guessing NYC ???

Was gonna say South Africa or New Zealand, but my ignorance of any works of art in either place means I'm arrogant enough to assume it's neither :rotfl:

Whichever it is, I think it's a fab plan. I love the thought of heading off alone somewhere random :j

Glad you're happy in new home & the space is shaping itself around your needs too

  • Iiiii Feeel Freeeeee :j

Day off. Slept for most of it. I always need extra sleep after dramas, and often the extra hours bring dreams - I'm convinced it's part of processing things. This time I keep dreaming about things in the last couple of years and violence/ death! but the dreams fade after a couple of hours awake and I can't remember what they were about. I do think it's helping though. I feel less scared about change, and more free. Anything can still happen, and as the future can't be predicted maybe I should spend less time trying to control it.

I do really like having downsized and am amazed by the sudden temptation to leave ALL of it in a heap and disappear with a rucksack. OK so I probably won't do it but it is good to remember that I don't have to do what's supposedly expected. A mortgage suddenly seems a very bad idea :rotfl: and although I miss the garden, I can find quiet and the natural world in places I don't rent/own.

Having a flat that is the right size for me, and having all I need in it, has suddenly set me free from wanting stuff. 'Cause I've nowhere to put it. Instead of feeling I have to sort out a whole house and garden, I've got all I need already. It's great.

I treated myself to a trip to John Lewis today, originally because I wanted to look at the Kenwood mixer that Sainsbugs have on offer... and of course it turned out they don't have it. Normally I spend the whole time drooling over stuff and thinking about the huge farmhouse I want to put it in. This time I just wandered around like it was an art gallery :rotfl: thinking what beautiful things people can make, but with no 'greed/need' feeling that any of it had to come home with me. I did buy a fabulous bag, because it's exactly what I need and both beautiful and useful. But that was all I really wanted.

    Treading lightly :)

  • Lula might be right ;)

Am quite excited about this now. Am thinking of all the things I could see in a week... galleries and museums and sights... and it's busy enough that I wouldn't have to worry about being on my own, and I don't have to worry about learning the language.

This will sound bonkers, but I've never had a full week's holiday as a proper holiday. I've been skint, studying using my annual leave, or both ever since I got out of uni. So I've had long weekends in places I wanted to see but never a whole week, and usually organised with friends or around an event. Just doing what I want somewhere new is a rather fabulous plan :T

    Rosa my lovely,

you really sound as though you're seeing the world & your own time in it, from a fresh viewpoint :).

I wholeheartedly embrace & agree with your thoughts on appreciating beautiful items, but not feeling the need to possess them. Treating them like artefacts or treasures is very liberating.

Having a space that fits you is very comforting, as is the knowledge that you can walk away from it if necessary without much hassle.

I'm watching BBC1 right now & never has my yearning for a camper been greater, there is so much of our tiny islands that I have yet to explore :j

I can only think of one thing I really really want to do that is absolutely special to me. It involves going to see a particular work of art in a foreign city. It also sort of relates to my gran. Even just making the journey would be significant for me, however dull it is, and it's kind of even better that it would fit with my birthday. And I don't mind doing this on my own - I would be quite happy to suspend myself in travel at the moment.

So I think I am about to spend several hundred pounds on a flight and hotel, and spend my birthday alone in a city I've never seen in order to visit a fabulous work of art that has a remote connection to someone who isn't around any more.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and make sure you're happy.
I do really like having downsized and am amazed by the sudden temptation to leave ALL of it in a heap and disappear with a rucksack.

When my job was under threat, I looked into the trials and tribulations of having a van converted so I could travel the country for long periods of time. I must admit that now I'm researching the rather more minimal motorcycle.

You don't have to be predictable.
