TESCO being VERRRRRY sneaky!!!!!!!!

Popped into tesco earlier noticed a crate full of toys with a big reduced to clear sign at the front. Started looking through the toys noticed that every single toy had the grand total of 1p off!!!!!!! the full price. Now I am not just talking about one or two but every single toy there were a fair few in the crate. This was also away from the normal toys.
I know some may say a reduction is a reduction but this was very misleading in the way in which it was done. I know about Tesco's dodgy pricing 1 for £1 2 for £3 etc reported on various posts but I think this was a dodgy price reduction too far and misleading.
wins so far: 6 mars balls. 5 mars dvds. make up. hair stuff. moisturiser. Vodkat cocktail kit. 2books. 2 peroni coasters. 3 peroni bottle openers. john smiths shirt.face mask. so diary. Sky+hd and sky world.:j Mascara

I say fair play to them. They've obviously got a load of tat to get rid of and they know some stupid people will buy anything on the grounds they think they've got a bargain.
  • It's not misleading if the toys were in fact reduced.

where's the issue? They WERE reduced and if someone picks one up and thinks the price is ok they will buy, similarly if they think the price is not ok they won't.

You're not getting much sympathy OP but I agree with you. It was misleading even though it beacme clear on closer inspection that the reduction was only 1p and so there was no legal obstacle to their display. When one sees "reduced to clear" one has become used to seeing substantial savings compared to the original price not a reduction of £0.01. To say it is reasoable is, I think, a bit like saying "prices slashed" could mean they had simply put a knife through the price ticket. Caveat emptor indeed!

Thank God we have got one sensible comment on this thread.

    This is literally a 'con'.

Tesco are relying on the fact that their customers have confidence that when they say something is 'reduced to clear' it will be reduced by a reasonable amount.

It's really sad that there are so many people on this forum who will jump to defend companies who indulge in dishonest but legal behaviour.

It is a dark wet morning here but you have brightened up my day already! Was expecting to have been shot down in flames with my post.

    Thank you.

Why would I care less about defending Tesco???

Again, I ask where is the issue? Expecting quite a high reduction is fine but are you forced to buy the gear? Surely you would go over, have a look and see what the price is or would you simply pick one out with your eyes shut and be shocked that it is not 1p at the till?

Presumably because you feel that you care too much about them at the moment. :)

I have explained it already in very simple and straightforward language.

If you cannot understand that perfectly simple explanation I doubt that you will do any better with another. ;)

I'm a bit lost at your humour (if thats what it is supposed to be)

I assume the lack of any response to anything I said means you understand now that you were talking rubbish so we'll leave it there.

    Thanks
