Only had our chocolate coloured leather sofas for 4 days so watching this thread with interest! No kids to muck it up though.

One thing that never occured to me before i read the care instructions for our 2 and 3 sofas was that it says to keep between 20-30cm from heat sources (i'm guessing to stop the leather drying out?) which means we're now wasting a bit of living room space behind the 3 seater as there's a radiator directly behind it.

  • We have chocolate coloured sofa from m & s. My 2 year old has written on it with biro which I managed to get it off. To clean it you just use damp cloth. Brilliant quality & cannot recommend enough.
  • I clean mine with a bar of saddle soap and damp cloth - amazing how grubby they get!
  • I had 2 lovely leather settees about 6 years ago and DH constantly complained about the cold in the winter/ sticky in the summer thing (never bothered me to be honest) so we got rid and got fabric ones instead and I regretted the descision from day 1!!

The poor things where holier than the Pope by the time I binned them last month they had been in the washing machine that often!

Currently awaiting delivery of another leather suite :j

never had one myself, but a friend of m-i-l said she returned hers to the shop because she couldn't sit on it while wearing denim, dont know if this is true though, lol!
  • Hi,
I have had 2 black leather sofas and armchair for just about a year now. Still loooks brand new. However, if you are really fussy and houseproud (which i am) i cant stand the creases and little ripples you get on the seats. I tend to fiddle about with it and puff all the cushions regularly.
Drives me mad sometimes, however, it does look nice!
And you have to be careful what type of cushions you buy for them because they tend to slide on the leather. so avoid silky type cushions like the plague...

denim colour does transfer onto pale coloured leather

not a problemo with dark coloured ones :D
  • I think the modern day leather sofas are much better quality than the ones I remember from the 70's. We had a cream one and I hated it even as a child, in winter when you first sat on it it would make you gasp it was so cold and on a sultry summers day you had to literally peel yourself off it.

I wouldn't recommend cream though, ours looked terrible after a few years of my brother and myself fighting/eating/getting biro on it when doing our homework etc.

It depends on the grade of the leather, my new one is going to be porous so will be liable to staining but not too concerned because I won't be letting anyone sit on it :rotfl: :o
