Hi,
wondered if anyone can help moving in to our 1st proper home in the spring been in forces married quarters for last 5yrs! So looking to decorate new home properly now i'm torn between leather or a fabric sofa. I love the look of a chocolate brown sofa but is it practical with 2 young children. Hubby says not that you stick to it in the summer and it stains and tears easily. Have things moved on from the 70's which he remembers or is removable covers the way to go?
Any advice gratefully received. And also where to get a good quality suite would be helpful also cheers.

I always thought that leather would be cold in Winter and hot and sticky come (anyone who laughs is very childish) Summer, however I love ours. Had it about 6/7 months and we can't fault it, although we don't have kids...
Ours was from a 2nds shop. A round mark on the back, about the size of a 5p, was enough for it to be reduced from £799 to £450.Bet match total as of 04/10 = God Knows + About £1000 Quidco. Time for Mrs Huddsta to have a crack!!!
The Bronze Challenge - earn £250 in profits =£73.320 -
leather all the way, wipe clean for a start, it's not cold in winter or anything, and it shouldn't be left in the sun in summer to heat up either.
Hairspray is your friend, you'll see why....
btkAll advice given by thekid is in good faith but remember these important facts:- I'm lucky enough to live in Scotland(Scots Law may apply)...
- My motto is "What's the worst that can happen" you've seen the kids in the Comic Relief clips, is it to that scale? Then get a grip!
- It's only money...no really(see #2)

I bought a leather suite in 2002 - 2 months before DS1 was born - I now have 2 boys (4 years and 20 months) and the suite is wearing really well - and wait for it - it is cream coloured.
It has a few scratches but they have been the result of other peoples kids climbing onto it with their shoes on  . They are not particularly noticeable (only to me) and it has kept surprisingly clean! I would say go for the leather - it's lovelyIt's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission0 -
Thanks keep the replies coming!0

My sister has a cream leather sofa and had to have it professionally cleaned 3 times before the denim stains and coffee stains would come out of it. I personally wouldn't have a leather suite - I hate the feel of them.Touch my food ... Feel my fork!0

we have a choc brown leather corner sofa and i love it
the colour means marks dont show upits easy to clean much easier than having to wash covers !!
my sister has 2 under 4 and loves her leather sofa for the practical side but not the colour - CREAM !! lol
id say DO go for leather ,apart from being easy to clean ,its lovely and cool in the summer but we dont find it cold in the winter ,but i always cuddle up under a snuggly throw in winter anyway0 -
We have a 2 year old girl and a cream leather corner settee, also 2 years old. My daughter has caused no problems to it other than drawing in ink on it, but a bit of hairspray and it disappears. In the winter we have throws on it as it does get too cold to sit on. But in the summer its fine, it generally just feels cold but doesn't really get sticky.0

Have had my navy leather sofas for about 6 years now and a ds age 4 and dd 2 and could not have lived without it. So easy to clean (especially with babywipes in easy reach) Just dread to think what a fabric sofa would have ended up like. have also got 4 cats. One sofa has a scratch on it from the cat but otherwise it is still in fantastic condition. I was wary at first worried about it being cold in the winter and sticky in the summer but its absolutley fine!!
Go for it!!!!!!:D

I had a cream leather settee and three little kids. I think I loved it too much and cleaned it too often as after four years (suppose it lasted well really!) it was wearing none to well, and the colour was coming off (it was from DFS).
I now have a navy blue leather suite and its much better, don't notice any dirt and therefore don't clean it as often! Leather is still better than fabric, I think, regardless of colour. Good luck with your choice xIf you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.0 -
I bought my current suite from 'World of Leather' in 1984 I have had 6 kittens and two children through it - it still looks remarkable good now 23 years later - it was HUGELY expensive at the time - but how many things would last that length of time.
Be aware that cheaper leathers do not wear so well.0
