Is this the best deal for the 8gb Iphone 4?

I've looked through the iphone 4s thread but there is no mention of any other model so thought i would ask here.

I am after a 8gb Iphone 4 for a family member, i have suggested other phones but they have their heart set on an Iphone :|

I have found a deal on e2save that costs £25 a month which gets you 100 minutes, 5000 texts and 500mb data with no upfront cost, i am wondering if anybody has seen any other good deals for the 8gb version as i don't believe more memory will be needed.

Thanks ZZ

The 4S is the latest, the 4 is the predecessor, You need to consider the total cost, NOT just then outlay.
The £25 a month deal is for 24 months, that means £600 over the course of the two years. If you can afford it ypou could get the 8GB Iphone 4 for £429 and then a giffgaff £10 a month bundle, maiing it £669 pover the two years, HOWEVER the giff gaff deal is a month contract, you can cancel when the 5 comes out.

You could also consider buying the 16gb 4S for £500 from Apple.

Final consideration is you will be liable for the contract, if they overspend you'll be the one with the bill, PAYG may be better long term

I know it's the one before the 4s but there is no need for him to have the 4s as i don't think he really cares about siri and the increased speed. He's upgrading from a nokia 5800 xpressmusic so the 4 will be much better. I haven't got the money to buy one outright hence the reason i'm looking for as cheap as contract as possible with a decent amount of texts and data. I won't be liable i'm just looking for him as his internet has been down for a few weeks and is scheduled to be fixed next tuesday so has a wait still

  • I always wonder if this site is about long-term or short-term moneysaving.

Not many can afford £400+ up front on pay day. Thoughts?

I think the answer is pretty obvious.
If you can save money in short term by getting a free or a very cheap credit, then it is good.
If you pay 20% APR for the privilege of saving money in short term when buying a luxury toy, this has nothing to do with moneysaving. Any mobile phone contract with a 'free' or discounted handset is a form of credit with a hidden APR that still can be calculated easily.

If you cannot afford £400+ up front then you cannot afford iPhone. As simple as that.

You may have been better starting a new thread, but the contract will be with the network, and generally the "free" gift is paid for by more line rental of more for the handset up front.

If you consider it as a monthely payment plan and accept it as such they can be OK, but it's not free.

Giving an example and this is the first on the page not anything special..

Nokia C3 with a PS3 and £160 cashback, Phone is free and contract is 24 months (o1 100 data) @ £21.50. Total cost is £516
Valuing the PS3 @ £200 (Argos) and the £160 Cashback that means your paying £156 over the 24 months, or effectivly £6.50 a month.

The same phone can be had on the same site without the PS3 but £320 cashback for an effective £8-50 a month, so your paying £48 for the PS/3.

IN this case it looks good value BUT REMEMBER these cash backs are by redemption, if you get them wrong the cashback is not paid, and your paying the £21.50 a month.

It probably is woreth working out the total cost, and the value of the gift and seeing if it's worth it for you..

An interesting point. And if true, and it may well be true, Apple would surely be in receivership by now if people did stick to this advice.
