I don't agree with the "if you can't afford 400+ upfront..." comment.
I would rather spread to cost over a 2 year period than pay £400 for a phone this close to christmas, with a tariff it will cost the same over 2 years either way just means i will be paying £25 a month instead of £10 a month.
£419 + £240 (Giffgaff for 2 years) = £659
£25 x 24 = £600
Granted the 3 tariff has less data and minutes but it's fine for what is needed.0 -
Well, ignoring the minutes, £25x24 is definitely better than £419+£10x24 and it makes no sense to calculate APR to say this.
However, 100m+Unltd/500Mb is available for 1x£6 from chitter-chatter.
So, effectively you pay £19x24 for the phone instead of £419 that equals to 9% APR. Not bad, but IMHO a person without any savings is not in a position to spend £400+ on an expensive toy (= cannot afford it). For anyone with some savings it makes no sense to pay 9% APR for a credit while getting 2.5%-3% interest on savings.0
