This couple are lovely, and did not deserve this, they were totally unpredjudiced, hence agreed to housing benefit.
But...this kind of behaviour has made them change their minds, and other people's too. Pay what you owe.
If you'd bothered to read all of the posts, you'd have read that I was actually earning and paying the rent out of my own money for the first half of the tennancy. This particular woman has a nasty reputation around this neck of the woods. I'm not in any way trying to get out of paying what I owe her. Thank you for just making assumptions.
I doubt I'll bother to ask for advice on here again, if this is the reaction I get. I only wanted some advice as to whether her behaviour was classed as harrassment or not. Not any where in this post have I said I wont pay her what she's owed. I'm not disputing that I owe the rent in any way shape or !!!!!!! form. People like you make me angry, you just make assumptions about people, without getting the facts.0 -
What angers me about this is that as a renter I have always paid my rent before anything else, I have also fought to preserve my credit rating and with no help from my relatives, I also care from my son with no help. We all have problems, I don't have a husband to help me either, why do I bother protecting my credit rating so I can rent again, perhaps I should just let it all go to the wall and somebody else can house us when I am no longer able to pass the credit checks ......Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Don't you get Child benefit?
Child Tax Credit?
Some sort of JSA or ESA?
Does your huband sign on or get ESA or incapacity?
This figure of £50 as your income isn't consistent with current benefit rates.
Also, as you asked the council to pay the HB direct, you must have known how much the HB was and whether there was a shortfall in the rent.
As for 24 hours notice, a LL doesn't need to give notice to knock on a door.
They need to give notice for access to the property if the tenant does not agree to access without notice.
In our tennancy agreement it states that she had to give us 24 hours notice before turning up. I'm not stupid and I can read. At the moment all my tax credits are waiting on being sorted out, I should be recieving ESA but because the benefit office here have messed up royally, I'm left with hardly anything to live on! Until they sort it out.0 -

You're asking how best to do this, right?
May I ask the purpose of introducing the harrassment issue to the mix?
Her behaviour is not acceptable but it's in the past now.
Are you hoping to use this as retaliation/leverage/compensatory demand to offset or nullify the arrears?
Where are you going with this?
We are handing back the keys on sunday, she has demanded the full amount on that day. I cannot magic up £1500 to pay her on sunday. I tried the option of offering what I could afford when she asked for the extra £200 a month, that I would increase it when I went back to work to clear the arrears quicker. But she wasnt interested. It was 200 or we were to move out.
I just really feel like everyone's being incredibly harsh towards me right now. I'm trying to figure out the best way to sort out this mess and all I keep getting is people getting the wrong idea and having a right go at me.0 -

Of course it's harassment but it does not mean that you can withhold rent, I had a harassing baaaah stard of a landlord, I still had to pay him, because I knew if I didn't I would not get another house to rent.....because I wouldn't get a reference or pass credit checks.
When you guys stand on your own feet without your in-laws keeping you you will find it hard to rent again.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
Can you sell the car now?:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0

You should not have let it get so high, that's all I am saying, surely you could have asked for an interim payment from HB or tax creds, or from anywhere, why let it get so high?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

No we cant sell the car now, as we still live in the middle of no where. I really wish I hadn't come on here for advice, I know where we went wrong, I didn't need my mistakes pointing out to me over and over again. Feel so much more stressed out than I did before now.0

Once your benefits are sorted will this not give you a lump sum payment? Will that go towards the debt?:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0
